  • British Wind Music: 1981-2007
British Wind Music: 1981-2007 A personal look at twenty-four years of repertoire development ..I am sure that our English masters in Musick (either for Vocal or Instrumental Musick) are not in Skill and Judgement inferiour to any Foreigners whatsoever... John Playford Introduction to Choice Ayres & Songs, 1681 Part II of a History of British Wind Music by Timothy Reynish It was to be another 300 years before CBDNA, led by Frank Battisti and Bill Johnson, organized the first International Conference for Symphonic Bands & Wind Ensembles in Manchester at the Royal Northern College of Music. Tim Reynish investigates the proud boast of John Playford and its relevance to today's international wind music scene. More information about commissions, publications and articles, reviews of music etc available on www.timreynish.com Celebrating Basbwe 2007 - Twenty Six Years Of Achievement … the more we encourage composers to use the wind ensemble, the better it's going to be, particularly with the generation of wind players that’s out there now Sir Simon Rattle President of BASBWE 1 World Wind Music Every couple of years, the Swiss conductor and pedagogue, Felix Hauswirth, brings out his 1000 Selected Works for Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensembles, (published Ruh Music AG [email protected]) a list which is personal but which gives a splendid birds-eye view of international repertoire from 1560 to the present day. In the chronological list, there are no British works apart from arrangements of Byrd or Purcell in the first two pages, which cover 1560-1906, a mere two hundred pieces.

I focus here specifically on female fans of male solo singers, particularly to explore the way gendered fandom is presented when the women are older than the teenage female fans most often associated with male artists (Ehrenreich et al 1992; Din and Cullingford 2004). Hodkinson notes that participation in music subcultures has often been 'regarded as a temporary accompaniment to the broader experience of being adolescent' (2011: 262) and Cavicchi argues that: The obsessive activities of fandom - collecting artifacts and photographs, imitating a star's dress and manners, camping overnight for concert tickets, creating fanzines, joining fan clubs - are accepted only as the temporary behaviour of hormone-driven (usually female) teenagers, who, when reaching adulthood, are expected to settle into the more mature behavior of work or motherhood (1998: 6) Yet, it is becoming clear that music fandom is no longer the sole preserve of the young.

  • IN the COURT of APPEALS of IOWA No. 17-1332 Filed July 18
IN THE COURT OF APPEALS OF IOWA No. 17-1332 Filed July 18, 2018 STATE OF IOWA, Plaintiff-Appellee, vs. MICHAEL SHAWN BALL, Defendant-Appellant. ________________________________________________________________ Appeal from the Iowa District Court for Dubuque County, Michael J. Shubatt, Judge. Michael Ball appeals his convictions for conduct with a minor, and he appeals provisions in his judgment and sentence. CONVICTIONS AFFIRMED, SENTENCE AFFIRMED IN PART AND VACATED IN PART, AND REMANDED FOR ENTRY OF A CORRECTED SENTENCE. Mark C. Smith, State Appellate Defender, and Vidhya K. Reddy, Assistant Appellate Defender, for appellant. Thomas J. Miller, Attorney General, and Louis S. Sloven, Assistant Attorney General, for appellee. Considered by Vogel, P.J., and Doyle and Bower, JJ. 2 VOGEL, Presiding Judge. Michael “Wally” Ball appeals his convictions for enticing a minor, supplying alcohol to a minor, indecent exposure, and invasion of privacy. He argues the evidence is insufficient to prove he committed enticement. He also argues the district court abused its discretion in refusing to exclude the testimony of his former wife, Beth Ball, and it erred in imposing sexual abuse victim surcharges and special conditions of probation and in ordering appellate attorney fees unless he filed a request for a hearing on his ability to pay. We find sufficient evidence supports Ball’s conviction for enticement.
