West End Proms a Spectacular Night of Beautiful Performances – Spanning Seven Decades of Musical Theatre – Is Coming to Scarborough STARS OF THE STAGE ALIGN FOR WEST END PROMS A SPECTACULAR NIGHT OF BEAUTIFUL PERFORMANCES – SPANNING SEVEN DECADES OF MUSICAL THEATRE – IS COMING TO SCARBOROUGH Some of the world’s most talented Broadway and West End stars will unite at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer for an evening of beautiful live music, complete with a stunning 32-piece orchestra. West End Proms will present a breath-taking evening which will feature songs from such smash hit musicals as Les Misérables, Phantom Of The Opera, The Greatest Showman, Rock Of Ages, Wicked, Sunset Boulevard, Dear Evan Hansen and more. This sensational show comes to Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Friday July 5. Tickets go on sale on Friday via www.scarboroughopenairtheatre.com West End Proms boasts a top cast, including the award-winning John Owen-Jones (Les Mis in the West End and Broadway), Ben Forster, winner of ITV’s Superstar (2012), plus Rachel John and Jon Robyns, stars of West End show of the moment Hamilton. Jodie Steele and Jamie Muscato, two of the leading actors from the show Heathers, plus Lauren Samuels, who rose to prominence as a finalist on the BBC’s Over the Rainbow, and Marisha Wallace, leading lady of Dreamgirls and Waitress, together with Aladdin on Broadway, are also confirmed. This unique celebration of musical theatre has previously wowed sell-out festival crowds and the Scarborough OAT show will be its only performance outside of London this summer. It will debut at Greenwich Music Time on Thursday July 4. West End Proms is curated and presented by live music promoters Cuffe and Taylor. Director Peter Taylor said: “This is the first time we’ve brought West End Proms to Scarborough and it’s going to be an incredible evening. “This is more than a concert, it’s a show worthy of the West End and Broadway. We’ve brought together some of the world’s most beautiful voices complete with a stunning live orchestra. It will be an extraordinary night.” Scarborough Open Air Theatre, situated on Yorkshire’s beautiful east coast, is the UK’s largest, purpose-built, open-air concert arena. I focus here specifically on female fans of male solo singers, particularly to explore the way gendered fandom is presented when the women are older than the teenage female fans most often associated with male artists (Ehrenreich et al 1992; Din and Cullingford 2004). Hodkinson notes that participation in music subcultures has often been 'regarded as a temporary accompaniment to the broader experience of being adolescent' (2011: 262) and Cavicchi argues that: The obsessive activities of fandom - collecting artifacts and photographs, imitating a star's dress and manners, camping overnight for concert tickets, creating fanzines, joining fan clubs - are accepted only as the temporary behaviour of hormone-driven (usually female) teenagers, who, when reaching adulthood, are expected to settle into the more mature behavior of work or motherhood (1998: 6) Yet, it is becoming clear that music fandom is no longer the sole preserve of the young.
