Marazion Surgery Gwallon Lane Marazion Tel: 01736 710505 Cornwall TR17 0HW Marazion Surgery Gwallon Lane Marazion Tel: 01736 710505 Cornwall www.marazionsurgery.com TR17 0HW An opportunity has arisen for a new GP Partner to join this well-established, friendly, rural, Dispensing, Training, GMS Practice. We currently have four sessions available and would be willing to negotiate a mutually convenient start date for the right candidate. The successful candidate will have the drive to enhance our excellent Practice reputation, to help us to continue to be a high QOF achiever and, looking to the future, to innovate as General Practice evolves. Introduction The surgery is located in the picturesque village of Marazion in West Cornwall, famous for its sandy beaches and temperate climate. The famous tourist attraction of St Michael’s Mount overlooking Marazion, attracts many visitors to the area especially in the summer months. There are excellent primary and secondary schools in the area, and good transport links by rail, road and air. We would like to welcome you to our Practice and take this opportunity to introduce you to our premises, our patients and our staff. Marazion Surgery is an efficient provider of GP services for nearly 7000 patients spread over a relatively large rural area with a disease prevalence rate which is quite average for Cornwall. However, we do have a higher than average elderly population. We dispense medicines for approximately 65% of the patients on our list. The Practice is supported by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals; West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance is the closest, St. Michael’s Hospital in Hayle which is adjacent to St. Julia’s Hospice, and Treliske Hospital in Truro; the county’s acute hospital. The Practice operates a daily ‘Duty Doctor’ rota system where each day a different doctor is on duty and they handle all acute visits and are ‘on-call’ for the practice. This allows the other partners to work uninterrupted and as a result the duty doctor has a reduction in appointments for that day. The clinical system of Marazion Surgery is currently Microtest Evolution. Dr D Killeen, Dr D Sugrue, Dr S Murphy, Dr R Robbins, Dr J Lock & Dr D Tinkler. Mrs J Brown – Practice Manager VAT Registration Number: 879065673 The Partners Our current Senior Partner is Dr Deirdre Killeen. There are six GP Partners and one Salaried GP at the Practice. Their names and qualifications are listed below: Dr Deirdre Killeen MB B Ch BAO D.Obs DCH MRCGP University College Galway, Ireland 1989 (6 sessions) Dr David Sugrue MBBS DGM MRCGP Charing Cross & Westminster 1988 (4 sessions) Dr Suzanne Murphy MB BCh BAO MRCPI MRCGP University College Cork, Ireland 1994 (4 sessions) Dr Richard Robbins MBBS MRCGP Peninsula 2008 (8 sessions) Dr Jonathan Lock MBBS DCH MRCGP University of Exeter 2007 (6 sessions) Dr David Tinkler BMBS MRCGP Peninsula 2008 (4 sessions) Dr Caroline Gambles MBChB MRCP MRCGP Leeds University 1996 (4 sessions – Salaried GP) Each GP in the Practice has an area of responsibility: Dr Killeen is the Practice Lead for Clinical Governance, Information Governance and Care Quality Commission. Dr Sugrue is the Practice Lead for Dispensary and Medicines Management. Dr Murphy is the Practice Lead for Health and Safety. Dr Robbins is the Practice Lead for Safeguarding. Dr Lock is the Practice Lead for Training. Dr Tinkler is the locality commissioning lead for the Penwith locality area of the Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group. See www.kernowccg.nhs.uk. The Staff There is a good balance of both part-time and full-time members of staff, who work closely together to form an efficient and professional team. Our Practice Manager, Mrs Jackie Brown, is supported by her PA, Mrs Juliette Benstead. For succession planning, Mrs Kathryn Burge is the Trainee Practice Manager. The administration team includes Katie Tebay, Medical Secretary; Nicola Noble, Administrator and IT Manager; Read- Coder/Notes Summarisers Mrs Ailsa Hammersley, Mrs Jackie Peacock and Mrs Carol Stone; and our Bookkeeper, Miss Helen Greig. There are seven dispensers in the Practice: Miss Tara Brownfield is the Dispensary Supervisor; Mrs Jenny Symons, Mrs Donna Tomlinson, Miss Sophie Jackson, Miss Emily Fayer, Miss Sarah Hitchens, and Mrs Pat Harrington. There are 5 receptionists: Ms Sharon Knight is Reception Supervisor; Mr Lee Higginson, Mrs Rachel Cripps, Miss Laura Corin, Ms Lindsay Gannon and Mrs Kimberley Grenfell. Mr Lee Higginson is also our caretaker. We have three Practice Nurses, Mrs Chloe Gendall is Team Leader; Mrs Helen Brodie and Mrs Elizabeth Ferris. We have two Assistant Practitioners, Mrs Shirley Hatton and Mrs Helen Green. We also have a phlebotomist. We contract a cleaning company, who work with our caretaker Mr Lee Higginson, to keep the premises clean and well maintained to a very high standard. The Practice has always enjoyed good working relationships with the District nurses, Macmillan Nurses, Midwife, Health visitor, Practice-Based Counsellors and the Addaction (Cornwall Alcohol & Drugs Agency) Counsellor. In order to promote communication there are regular meetings, for example, between the Practice Nurses and District Nurses, and multi-disciplinary meetings such as the Dr D Killeen, Dr D Sugrue, Dr S Murphy, Dr R Robbins, Dr J Lock & Dr D Tinkler. Mrs J Brown – Practice Manager VAT Registration Number: 879065673 Gold Standards Framework for Palliative Care, Mental Health HUB Meetings and MDT Meetings. The majority of these meetings are now held remotely. We are enthusiastic and proud to be a training Practice, having been joined by a Registrar in August this year. We have had third year medical students annually for some time, but this year will also welcome year two medical students. The Premises The surgery was purpose-built in 1990 and sits in its own landscaped grounds, with plenty of parking available. In 2005 the building underwent extensive refurbishment of the Reception, Dispensary, upstairs office space and patient waiting areas. We doubled the size of the car park in 2017. Downstairs, there is a large modern waiting area, a recently refurbished reception area and dispensary along with five GP Consulting rooms, three Nurse Treatment rooms, one Consulting/Treatment room for use by the Registrar, and one Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomy room. Upstairs, with beautiful panoramic rural views, are the Practice Manager’s office, Secretary’s office, Administrator’s office, Notes Summarisers’ suite, and a large meeting room/staff room that is used for hosting various presentations, meetings and training events. An extension to the premises is under consideration, to include additional treatment rooms and consulting rooms, with separate waiting room. We feel strongly that each of the consulting and treatment rooms must be kept up-to-date with medical equipment of a high standard. The Dispensary As mentioned already, the Dispensary has also been subject to a re-modelling and we feel is one of the best Dispensaries in Cornwall. Although we only dispense to just over half of our list, we endeavour to offer all of our patients an accurate and effective service. For patients who live in rural areas we also offer a free-of-charge prescription/medication delivery service and we work alongside local pharmacies in offering the same service to the rest of our patients. This service is particularly valuable to patients with transportation difficulties. We provide prescriptions via EPS (Electronic Prescribing Service.) The Practice works with a Formulary that is constantly updated and reviewed to ensure national guidelines are followed for prescribing issues. Communication The doctors and staff at Marazion surgery are a friendly and enthusiastic team who work together extremely well. It is felt important to communicate effectively and therefore groups meet regularly to discuss both patient issues and practice issues, as appropriate. We have a well established Patient Participation Group and members of this group also meet regularly. Dr D Killeen, Dr D Sugrue, Dr S Murphy, Dr R Robbins, Dr J Lock & Dr D Tinkler. Mrs J Brown – Practice Manager VAT Registration Number: 879065673 The doctors meet daily at 10:30am for coffee; this is an opportunity to discuss recent events and individual patient cases. The appointment demand is assessed and the rest of the day is planned accordingly during this meeting. Every week there is a Practice meeting for both the Manager and the GP’s, this is an opportunity to discuss business issues and changes in procedure. Once a quarter the Manager and GP Partners hold a Practice Development Meeting to discuss long-term planning and aspirations for the future. Clinical issues are discussed at the weekly Clinical Governance meeting which is chaired by Dr Killeen as IG and CQC lead for the Practice. Members of staff meet on a Wednesday lunch time, this meeting is chaired by the Practice Manager. This is an opportunity to disseminate information, write and review protocols and to discuss any events or problems that have arisen during the week. There are also regular individual department meetings of Receptionists, Dispensers, Administrators and Nurses. Quality & Outcomes Framework The Practice has a very high standard of patient care and has been a consistently high QOF achiever since it began in 2004. Enhanced Services We offer a full range of Enhanced Services, as we feel it is important to offer our patients as many services and facilities as possible. These include Dispensary Services Quality Scheme, Near Patient Testing, Minor Surgery, Minor Illness, INR testing in-house, NHS Health Checks, 24 hour ECG’s, 24 hour BP’s, Neonatal Checks, IUCD, Joint Injections and Home & Dry Detox. Extended Hours & IAGP (Improved Access to General Practice) For Extended Hours, we offer two evening and one early morning extended hours surgeries. For IAGP we offer two evening surgeries, alternately on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. These clinics are provided by our Assistant Practitioner, Practice Nurses, Phlebotomist, and all doctors on a rota basis.

  • Horse Around 28
Free to Members No. 28 Spring 2010 Straight from the horse’s mouth In This Bumper Issue Hello Everyone Gwallon Bridleway Opened Another Christmas has come and gone and we are already a TREC comes to the far South West quarter of the way through 2010. The years seem to be flashing by. Our traditional Christmas Cracker ride was well Carnyorth Common Update supported and the Get Together at the Engine Inn was also a Steel Horse News and Trails very sociable evening. Now we are looking at the AGM Horse Hike Reports coming up already. It’s been a tough winter but we have got Horse Hike Programme off more lightly in the far southwest. We just got rain, rain and more rain whilst up country got the white stuff. The horses ‘ploughed the fields and splattered the good grass off the land. and more … But they’ve been fed and watered by our unstinting hand.’ (apologies to the hymn!) Now with the recent dry weather the poached ground has set like concrete. Every bridleway and track continued to be as bad as ever under hoof. Horse hikes had to be cancelled but recently, we have had some lucky breaks to run a few good rides in reasonable weather. Chapel Carn Brea, Great Flat Lode, and a new venue at Marazion brought out a lot of riders. The recently opened new Gwallon bridleway will enable Marazion to become a regular ride. An informal Trec competition took place on the last day of February with a crash course and demo in the morning before real action in the afternoon.

  • Marazion and District Community Plan 2007- 2027
Marazion and District Community Plan 2007- 2027 For the town of Marazion, and the parishes of St Hilary, Ludgvan, Perranuthnoe, and St Michaels’ Mount Marazion and District Forum (Incorporating the town of Marazion and the parishes of Ludgvan, Perranuthnoe, St Hilary and St Michael’s Mount) Marazion and District Community Plan 2 Foreword Welcome to the Marazion and District Community Plan This community strategic plan is the work of the Marazion and District Forum. We have prepared it because we care about our community: about the town and parishes, the people who live and work here, and the quality and beauty of our coastal and countryside environment. Researching and writing the plan represents a lot of work on the part of many members of the community, particularly those who completed our survey, those who attended our Prioritisation Day in February, and of course those who took part in our themed discussion groups. This plan responds to the issues you raised; I hope you will participate in its delivery. To those readers who represent the community at local and regional government level, and those of you representing other key agencies and organisations, this plan is significant in that it represents the concerns, issues and aspirations of the community; it is rooted in the community, being based on the findings from the extensive community survey we undertook during 2006/7, and consultations on specific topics during the summer of 2007. The plan describes our overall vision for our community in the future, and sets out goals that will help us realise that vision.
