Invincible Spirit Colt Tops Craven Opener WEDNESDAY, 13 APRIL 2016 NATHRA TOO GOOD IN NELL GWYN INVINCIBLE SPIRIT COLT Helped by the rain at Newmarket and the resultant withdrawal TOPS CRAVEN OPENER of Illuminate (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), Nathra (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) turned in a thoroughly professional effort to win Tuesday=s G3 Nell Gwyn S., providing a boost to Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who had beaten her by 4 1/2 lengths into second in the G1 Fillies= Mile at the same venue in October. Sluggish from the stalls on this comeback, Nathra was waited with towards the rear of mid-division by Frankie Dettori and made smooth progress to enter contention passing halfway. Gaining a slight advantage with a quarter mile to race, she was pushed out with mainly hands and heels from there as Squash produced a career-best to beat the rest. AShe=s done nothing but stay and it pays a huge compliment to Minding, who in my mind is the most impressive Fillies= Mile winner we=ve ever seen,@ trainer John Gosden said. AIt looked like they were going to come across to the rail as Frankie thought he was going to get well and truly boxed in, and he had to move from his gap. The colt out of the speedy listed winner Loch Jipp (Belong To Me) was on plenty of shopping lists, but both John Ferguson and Stephen Hillen had to give best to McCalmont, who was buying on behalf of the Coolmore team. "I'm not sure who will train him," said McCalmont. "He was just a lovely colt and a really powerful-looking individual who wasn't fazed by anything here today." Dwyer, who offered the colt through his Oaks Farm Stables for Highbank Stud, having bought him as a yearling for 150,000gns at Book 1 of the October Sale, added, "He breezed particularly well and had coped very well with his prep. The more he did the better he got. I don't know how many times he showed, but he never put a foot wrong and you love to see that in a horse." Moving to tackle the leaders under Flavien Prat on the latter half of the turn, Lord Nelson opened clear in the straightaway and bounded home by four lengths, nearly matching the track record of King of Cricket (Coursing), set back in 1973. TUESDAY, 22 OCTOBER 2019 THE WEEKLY WRAP: DON'T YEARLING ACTION RETURNS TO DEAUVILLE FOR ARQANA OCTOBER By Emma Berry DREAM IT'S OVER DEAUVILLE, France-There is little let-up in the packed European sales calendar. Tattersalls brought down the shutters on its October marathon on Saturday afternoon but by Monday morning Goffs was back in action with its Autumn Sale and today (Tuesday) sees the start of the four-day Arqana October Sale. This understudy to the flamboyant August yearling sale in Deauville has traditionally been conducted in two parts but this year it has a distinct grading system for each day, with the seemingly strongest set of yearlings offered in the opening session. The sale's clash with a three-day race meeting in the town means that the first two days of trade will not begin until 3 p.m. That may be just as well for those looking at yearlings on Monday who had to spend plenty of time dodging heavy seaside showers. Cont. p5 IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Kameko (left), will bid to reverse the Royal Lodge form with Royal Dornoch in the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy. | Racing Post FASIG-TIPTON KY OCTOBER BEGAN MONDAY The Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale began in Lexington, KY on Monday.
