Del mismo modo se incorporan 47 nombres que presentan errores de escritura o en la autoridad. Para cada uno de ellos se muestra la publicación original y su validez (aceptado, sinónimo o no resuelto). PALABRAS CLAVE: Complemento al Catálogo Cono Sur, fl ora de Chile ABSTRACT A list of 523 additional names for the Chilean Flora is presented, which were omitted from the “Ca- tálogo de Plantas Vasculares del Cono Sur”. We also include 47 corrected names (spelling or author name errors). For each of the new names presented we include the original publication and their status (accepted, synonymous or not resolved). KEYWORDS: Supplement to the Cono Sur Checklist, Chilean Flora INTRODUCCIÓN En el transcurso del proyecto apoyado por la Mellon Foundation para el MNHN “Digitalización de Tipos de plantas vasculares del herbario SGO” [plants.jstor.org ], se trató de indicar la determinación actualizada para los especímenes de la colección; para esto nos basamos en el Catálogo de Plantas Vasculares del Cono Sur (Zuloaga et al. 2008) que comprende las plantas de la Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, sur de Brasil y Chile; muchas veces ello se complementó con las determinaciones anotadas en los mismos ejemplares, por los especialistas de cada género. -

Contribution to the Ecological Phytogeography of Fuegia (Southern South America)

Abstract: The relationships between the present distribution of native Fuegian vascular plants and their ecological behaviour have been studied on the basis of information and multivariate analysis. 216 species (54 % of the total flora) were collected during two surveys within a transect across the main vegetation zones of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego; the ecologica! and phytogeographic informations are derived from field and literature data. The results show that: 1) the species list obtained by the survey along the transect have the same informational content of the total flora of lsla Grande; 2) seven out of twelve species groups obtained by nnumerical classification of phytogeographic data are well correlateci to the main habitat-types of Fuegia, i.e. steppe, forest and bog communities; 3) the Andean Cordilleras played the main role in plant migration to Fuegia after the ice retreat. lntroduction Fuegia, the Archipelago lying south of the Estrecho de Magallanes, in the southemmost part of South America, is of high phytogeographic interest. According to Dalziel & Elliott (1971), South America was the last continent which separated from Antarctica between the early Tertiary and 20-25 millions years ago, when the Antarctic Peninsula was covered by forests of Nothofagus and Araucaria (Cranwell, 1959; Darlington, 1964); this is of great importance for reconstructing the migration of southem Hemisphere plants across the continents (Croizat, 1952). Biotas of the main Austral land masses have many similiarities, with pattems of disjunct distributions most noticeable at the generic rather than at species level (Galloway, 1991); in recent years these affinities have been analyzed by both vicariance and cladistic biogeography (Humphries & Parenti, 1986, Brundin, 1988; Seberg, 1988) and by panbiogeographic methodologies (Craw 1985, 1988). -

Diversidad, Hábito Y Hábitat De Macrófitos Acuáticos En La Patagonia Occidental (Región De Aisén, Chile)
Anales Instituto Patagonia (Chile), 2011. 39(1):23-41 23 DIVERSIDAD, HÁBITO Y HÁBITAT DE MACRÓFITOS ACUÁTICOS EN LA PATAGONIA OCCIDENTAL (REGIÓN DE AISÉN, CHILE) DIVERSITY, HABIT AND HABITAT OF AQUATIC VASCULAR MACROPHYTES OF THE WESTERN PATAGONIA (AISÉN REGION, CHILE) Cristina San Martín1, Yessica Pérez1, Drina Montenegro1 & Miguel Álvarez2 ABSTRACT We studied the abundance, phytogeographycal origin, biological spectrum and the habitats of the aquatic macrophyte flora in the limnic (lotic and lentic) wetlands and in salt marshes of the Aisén Region, Chile. We found 86 species of vascular macrophytes including in 54 genera and 33 families. Only 8 species are abundant (Myriophyllum quitense, Potamogeton stenostachys, Glyceria multiflora, Hippuris vulgaris, Marsippospermum grandiflorum, Tetroncion magellanicum, Scirpus californicus and Gunnera magellanica), most of them occurring in swampy habitats from the river banks. Of the total species num- ber, 73 are native and 13 introduced, indicating little human disturbance in those wetlands. The biological spectrum consists of 54 perennial herbs (hemicryptophytes) and 23 tall herbs with underwater rhizomes and aerial culms (cryptophytes). The tall perennial herbs (chamaephytes) are represented by 6 species and the annuals (therophytes) by 3. Sixty seven swampy emergent forms (helophytic) and 19 species of aquatic plants (submerged, with floating leaves and free floating hydrophytes) were collected. The wetlands with higher species richness were the lowland ponds with 44 species and streams with 37 species. Small stands of coastal marshes were the only brackish habitat studied here, containing 5 halophytes (Cotula coronopifolia, Puccinellia glaucescens, Triglochin concinna, Ruppia filifolia y Zannichellia palustris). We analyzed the historical development of the knowledge of the aquatic macrophytes in the Aisén Region, concluding that the most of the species had been prospected before. -

War and Peat conference proceedings, September 2013 The Impact of the Falklands War (1982) on the Peatland Ecosystem of the Islands Jim McAdam Queen’s University Belfast and United Kingdom Falkland Islands Trust Abstract Although the Falkland Islands (52°S) are relatively small (12,000km2), they are a globally important peatland resource. Most of the soils are classified as peat that has been formed under a unique set of climatic conditions and location-specific circumstances. Their estimated carbon stock is equivalent to 66% of the UK total and more than that of Ireland. Most of the land activity of The Falklands War in 1982 was essentially fought on peatlands though the main battles approaching Stanley were on the quartzite hilltops. However the timing of the action (winter), the relatively short duration of the land conflict and the unpreparedness of the combatants for the peatland conditions, meant that the overall impact on the ecosystem was minimal. A small but significant area of minefields is an unwelcome human legacy (which may have some ecosystem benefits) but a greater number of military and other tourists visiting the main battle sites have the potential to increase awareness of the peatland ecosystem. They cover an area of c.12,200km2 (almost exactly the same as Yorkshire or Northern Ireland), and are approximately 500 kilometres from the nearest point on mainland South America. -

PORTER Department of Biology Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Blacksburg, Virginia 24061 USA ABSTRACT During the voyage of HMS Beagle to Chile in 1832-1835, Charles Darwin made 248 collections of vascular plants: I clubmoss, 16 ferns, 35 monocots, and 166 dicots. His collections yielded 62 new taxa, 10 named for him; 126 of the specimens are type specimens of various kinds. Each collection is discussed in this paper, as are those reported to have been collected by Darwin in Chile that have not been found. Comments on the plants and on Chilean vegetation made by Darwin in his notebooks, journal, and publications are included. Key words: Darwin, HMS Beagle, plants, types.
