Mrs. Rebecca Sieg Dear Parents and Children, Today we celebrate All Saints Day. One of our most treasured traditions at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School is our 4th graders portrayal of saints they have researched at our All Saint’s Day Mass. Here are the saints that went marching in as part of our Mass today: Bryn Beauchat – St. Joan of Arc Kayden Bello – St. Monica Bridget Deardorff – St. Lucy Cody Eichelberger – St. Sebastian Eddie Gaskin – St. Michael the Archangel Maddox Glass – St. George Jeremy Hughes – St. Francis of Assisi Catherine Kelly - St. Catherine of Siena Olivia Knox – St. Dymphna Leo Kowalski – St. Leo the Great Dylan Lawrence – St. William Savanna Manuel – St. Maria Goretti Samantha Mejias – St. Therese of Lisieux Samuel Miller – St. Christopher Cecilia Moran – St. Cecilia Ivy Nieves – St. Rose of Lima Olivia Perry – St. Clare of Assisi Tehya Smith – St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Rebecca Williams – St. Anne Ada Yonath once said, “If one has curiosity, then one stands the chance of attaining a high level of scientific inquiry.” I am looking forward to seeing what scientific inquiry has been triggered by our student’s curiosity. Thursday, November 9th our 7th & 8th grade students will present their individual projects. Also on display that evening will be class and group projects from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6. Our 7th & 8th grade students and parents should arrive at 6:30pm – if you arrive earlier than 6:30pm you will not be able to enter the MPR as part of the judging will still be taking place. Independent judging will be taking place from 3:30-6:30pm, but judges will have the opportunity to ask students some questions until 7:00 or 7:15pm. At that time they will retire from the MPR to deliberate on the top entries. Awards will be presented at approximately 7:30pm. All 4th-8th grade students are required to be present, in school uniform, to discuss their individual or group projects. If your family has yet to return their PCCW raffle ticket sold or unsold, they must be sent back tomorrow. Thank you for your cooperation. Today, each family received a manila envelope containing information regarding our PTO Winter fundraisers. Thank you to all of our Health Fair presenters and volunteers. A HUGE thank you to our Health Fair Coordinators, Michelle Shriner, Kathy Gaskin and Andi Sefcheck. It was a wonderful day thanks to all persons involved. Mrs. Rebecca Sieg St. Francis Xavier Catholic School @ Xavier Center ~~ 465 Table Rock Road Gettysburg, PA 17325 St. Francis Xavier School Collected 520 lbs of food for Bag the Bounty! Great job!!! Please bring running attire and water to drink. Any questions please ask Mrs. Hughes. Bully Prevention Corner “Knowing what’s right doesn’t mean much unless you do what’s right.” - Theodore Roosevelt As many of you know, our school wide character trait for the month of October was KINDNESS. At this week's All Saints' Day Mass we will acknowledge a member of each class who has excelled at being KIND during the month of October. It will be published in next week's newsletter! Our character trait for the month of November will be RESPECT. Quote of the Week “Out of difficulties grow miracles.” Jean de la Bruyere Race Registration Form is attached! Check out our school webpage for additional info, forms or online registration! Return those PCCW Raffle Tickets Now! FLORIDA FRUIT SALE Fresh, Sweet, and Delicious! Our PTO will once again partner with Florida Fruit Association for our Fruit Sale. Our sale will begin November 1 - November 15. Please make sure to check your child’s Wednesday Folder for order forms and details. Fresh Fruit makes a great holiday Gift!! SFXCS PTO is bringing a new fundraiser to our school. We will be selling Butter Braid Pastries! These pastries are only available through fundraising and can be served as a breakfast, appetizer or dessert item. Please look at the packet which is being sent home in today’s Wednesday folders. Order forms and full payment are due on Tuesday, November 28th after the Thanksgiving break (payment MUST be turned in with the order sheets). Please make checks payable to SFXCS PTO. Each family that sells 4 pastries or more will receive dress down day passes! Pastries can be picked up on December 6th from 3-5 PM at the Xavier Center. Additionally, we are combining efforts with the fruit sale and top sellers of the combined fundraisers will be invited to a special movie day! Please contact Jamie Saynuk at [email protected] or Kristy Fleck at [email protected] if you have any questions. It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas! Only six weeks until the SFX students will have the chance to shop ‘till they drop at Santa’s Workshop on December 14th. What is Santa’s Workshop??? Santa’s Workshop is sponsored by the SFX PTO. The sales are not for profit. It is meant for the children to have a chance to purchase their own Christmas gifts for that special someone. The workshop consists of two chairs who shop for quality merchandise at great prices throughout the year. The workshop also receives many donated gift items that are bought for the benefit of the children. With prices ranging from .25 cents to $10.00 there is something for everyone in the family. The students truly love this event! After the students are finished with their shopping, they will have the opportunity to buy chances on numerous raffle prizes. The prizes will be raffled on Thursday afternoon. This special event requires a lot of Santa’s Elves who play an instrumental part in making this event a success for our children. We can use moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas to lend a helping hand on Wednesday, December 13th and Thursday, December 14th. Wednesday, December 13th we will start around 6:00 pm to convert the lunchroom into Santa’s Workshop. We’ll be busy unloading and setting up the gifts for the children to shop on Thursday in a store-like setting. Thursday December 14th is the big day for the children! We will start around 8:30 am on this day. We need a lot of Santa’s Elves to help the children shop and to wrap the gifts! After school, we will be packing up and setting the cafeteria back to normal! If you cannot commit to the whole day, that is no problem. Any amount of time that you can volunteer is a big help and greatly appreciated! Helping with Santa’s Workshop is a very rewarding experience and a lot of fun! So please remember to fill out the volunteer sheet you will receive in the backpack mail and bring your holiday spirit to Santa’s Workshop! **If you would like to donate a new gift, raffle item or wrapping paper to Santa’s Workshop, please contact one of us or drop it off in the office care of: Karin Palmer 717- 334-7855 or Paulette Otto 443-280-3643 Check out our attached Teacher Feature…Ms. Criss Baker…our Pre-K Assistant Teacher! Well not quite but it will be here before we know it. To prepare for the Christmas program and the Christmas holiday SFXCS is in need of 6 Christmas Trees. The current trees we have are old and have fallen about and lost parts of the years. We found some beautiful 7 ft. pre-lit trees at Sam's Club in Hanover. If you are interested in purchasing 1 or more of these trees for the school please let us know. FYI: you can always purchase Walmart gift cards from the school office to be used at Sam's Club! We have had several families purchase gift cards (which helps fulfill their scrip ATP) and donate the cards (helps fulfill PEDS) to the school for needed items. If you are interested in purchasing any of these items for the school please contact [email protected]. You may also check out our teacher's websites for additional wish list ideas. Check out the new Raider Rewards Scrip tab on our St. Francis Xavier Catholic School Website www.sfxcs-pa.org Click on Raider Rewards Scrip and learn about the program, download the order form or keep up to date on the latest Scrip News Raiders Rewards (Script) Competition Are you competitive? Do you like to shop? Do you have someone on your Christmas list that you just don’t know what to buy for them? What a better way to satisfy and solve all of these events than to participate in our Raiders Rewards/Script Competition and buying gift cards to your favorite stores and restaurants, while helping your child’s school.

He was born on February 27, 1873, in a large family and he enjoyed singing from childhood. Thanks to the Rev. Giuseppe Bronzetti, pastor of the Church of Sant’Anna delle Paludi, he made his first vocal appearances in sacred music. This was first as an alto in the parish choir, then as a soloist in the Mass by Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) and in the farce I briganti nel giardino di Don Raffaele by Alessandro Fasanaro.

  • Saint Joseph Moscati
Saint Joseph Moscati SAINT OF THE DAY 12-04-2021 “My place is by the side of the sick”, was the mantra of the medical luminary Saint Giuseppe Moscati (1880-1927), a model for every doctor and every man. Equipped with a solid scientific background, author of numerous essays on Italian and international journals, one of the first in Italy to use insulin to treat diabetes, university lecturer in physiological chemistry (supported by Antonio Cardarelli) and medical chemistry, Moscati had no doubts about what should be the purpose of life on earth: “Not science but charity has transformed the world in some periods; and only very few have gone down in history for science; but all of those who dedicate themselves to doing good will remain imperishable, symbol of the eternity of life, in which death is only a stage in a higher ascent”. And again: “Progress lies in a continuous critique of what we have learned. Only one science is unshakable and unshaken, the one revealed by God, the science of the beyond”. The seventh of nine children, he was born in Benevento. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Naples (in between there was a period in Ancona), because of the work of his father, a magistrate. Already at the age of 12, he began to assist his brother Alberto, who had suffered a head injury in a serious fall from a horse (he died of complications in 1904). It was at this time that his vocation probably matured, together with an awareness of the fleetingness of life in this world.
