Our parish has been involved for many years with “the Christmas Store” at St. Philip Neri Parish. Over 400 children benefit from this extraordinary outreach in which our parishioners and others are invited to provide clothing items and toys to the store. Families of limited means are invited to come to the store and shop for Christmas gifts for their children. St. Pius parishioners can take an ornament from the tree and purchase the item and return it unwrapped to the Church with the ornament tag on the gift item. The items are then sorted by parish volunteers, transported to the store, and arranged for families to choose what is best for their child. Volunteers from St. Pius also staff the store to assist client families in their selections. So, you can take an ornament today if you like or you can sign up to help with a variety of tasks associated with the store. If you would like to avoid shopping but still want to help, there are envelopes on the tree where you can make a donation allowing someone else to do the shopping. Thanks for your love and care shown through this wonderful outreach program. Parish Council Discernment - On the Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend at the 11:00 a.m. mass, we will select by lot four people to serve on the Parish Council. These individuals will serve as “at large representatives” on the Council for a period of three years. One person selected will be completing a term for someone who had to step down from the Council due to scheduling difficulties. The Council meets nine times a year, on the third Wednesday of the month. It also has a Saturday morning planning meeting with staff, in the early part of the year. If you have questions about the Council, please feel free to contact Lindsay Svarczkopf, at [email protected], or any council member. I am sure they will be happy to answer your questions. As has been mentioned, our Associate Pastor, Fr. David will be returning to Burma after Christmas. We have recently received word that a Bishop in Burma has agreed to send a priest to Indianapolis to minister to the Catholic from Burma, who are in our parish and in St. Mark parish. Due to immigration procedures, there will likely be a gap between the time Fr. David leaves and a new priest comes to St. Pius. When we learn more about the arrival of our new associate, we will inform all of you. Love, Father Jim Please remember in your prayers “...Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us.” - 2 Thessalonians 3:9 Madonna Bouwkamp John Leffel, husband of Karen Leffel and Most people who live a grateful and generous lifestyle don’t go father of Bert (Tiffani) Leffel & Ken (Ashley) Leffel around bragging about it. But through their actions and words, Richard Lux, father of Lisa (Mike) Kirk & others do take notice. They notice because of the joy and peace Richard Paul (Beth) Lux, Jr. that results and other people desire this in their own life. Know Marianne Weaver, mother of Paul (Mary) Weaver that the way you live your life may be the only interaction others have with our Catholic faith. - www.archstl.org May they have eternal peace in heaven. He was born on February 27, 1873, in a large family and he enjoyed singing from childhood. Thanks to the Rev. Giuseppe Bronzetti, pastor of the Church of Sant’Anna delle Paludi, he made his first vocal appearances in sacred music. This was first as an alto in the parish choir, then as a soloist in the Mass by Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) and in the farce I briganti nel giardino di Don Raffaele by Alessandro Fasanaro.

  • Saint Joseph Moscati
Saint Joseph Moscati SAINT OF THE DAY 12-04-2021 “My place is by the side of the sick”, was the mantra of the medical luminary Saint Giuseppe Moscati (1880-1927), a model for every doctor and every man. Equipped with a solid scientific background, author of numerous essays on Italian and international journals, one of the first in Italy to use insulin to treat diabetes, university lecturer in physiological chemistry (supported by Antonio Cardarelli) and medical chemistry, Moscati had no doubts about what should be the purpose of life on earth: “Not science but charity has transformed the world in some periods; and only very few have gone down in history for science; but all of those who dedicate themselves to doing good will remain imperishable, symbol of the eternity of life, in which death is only a stage in a higher ascent”. And again: “Progress lies in a continuous critique of what we have learned. Only one science is unshakable and unshaken, the one revealed by God, the science of the beyond”. The seventh of nine children, he was born in Benevento. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Naples (in between there was a period in Ancona), because of the work of his father, a magistrate. Already at the age of 12, he began to assist his brother Alberto, who had suffered a head injury in a serious fall from a horse (he died of complications in 1904). It was at this time that his vocation probably matured, together with an awareness of the fleetingness of life in this world.
