Preheat the oven to 325 F°. 5 large eggs 2. Crumble the sausage and cook in a medium skillet; set aside. 1/2 tsp dry mustard 3. Peel, core and thinly slice or chop the apples. 1/2 cup dried, sweetened cranberries 2. Whether you’re hosting or attending a holiday party, use these tips to enjoy the gathering healthfully while sticking to your kidney diet.

1. Think about what you’ll eat in advance. 2. Take your phosphorus binders to the party and remember to take them when you eat. 3. Eat fresh meats and poultry instead of cured, deli or smoked meats. 4. Add flavor to foods with herbs instead of salt. 5. Limit your fluid intake if you are on a fluid restriction. 6. Choose fruit pies over cream, chocolate or nut pies. 7. Limit high-potassium yams, sweet potatoes and pumpkin to a small taste instead of a serving. 8. Choose sugar-free if you have diabetes. 9. Limit all nuts and chocolate to a small taste.

Portions: 10 Diet types: CKD non-dialysis, dialysis, diabetes Serving size: 1/10 of 9-inch round Nutrients per serving: Calories: 282, Protein: 5 g, Carbohydrates: 18 g, Fat: 21 g, Cholesterol: 92 mg, Sodium: 244 mg, Potassium: 130 mg, INGREDIENTS Phosphorus: 80 mg, Calcium: 57 mg, Fiber: 0.6 g Food choices: 1/2 milk, 16 oz cream cheese 1/2 starch, 3 fat, 1/2 high-calorie Carbohydrate choices: 1 3 tbsp unsalted butter or margarine PREPARATION 1-1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs 1. Preheat the oven to 350º F. Set cream cheese out to soften and melt 5 tbsp granulated sugar butter or margarine. 1/4 cup granulated sweetener 2. In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, 1 tablespoon 1/2 tsp vanilla extract sugar and melted butter or margarine. Press into the bottom of a 9" 2 large eggs spring form pan and bake for 8 minutes. Set aside to cool. 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree 3. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, granulated sweetener, 3/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice remaining 4 tablespoons sugar and vanilla. With an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until smooth. Blend in the eggs one at a time. 4. Set aside one cup of the cream cheese mixture and pour remaining mixture over the pie crust in the spring form pan. 5. Combine the cup of cream cheese mixture with pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice. Pour over the top of the cream cheese filling in the spring form pan. 6. Bake for 30 minutes, or until center of pie is almost set. 7. Cool pie to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate until chilled before serving.
