Jewish Federation of Greater Portland and Community Relations Committee 6680 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland, OR 97219 (www.jewishportland.org) The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland is the central planning, coordinating, and fundraising body for a wide range of local and international agencies that offer the entire community a broad spectrum of humanitarian programs. The Federation's annual fundraising campaign supports vital social service programs and is the largest annual fundraising endeavor in the Jewish community. The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland was founded in 1920 and is a 501‐c‐3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to assure the building and strengthening of the Jewish community locally, nationally, overseas and in Israel, in accordance with Jewish values. The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland Community Relations Committee (CRC) is the public affairs advocacy arm of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland. The CRC, which represents a broad cross‐section of the local Jewish community, works in coalition with Jewish and non‐Jewish partners on issues ranging from poverty to civil rights to Israel. The CRC’s Israel Advocacy Subcommittee promotes the strengthening of US‐Israel ties, advocates for federal legislation favorable to Israel and interprets the policies of the Israeli government and developments in the Middle East to the Jewish and non‐Jewish communities, the media and key policymakers. The subcommittee organizes lectures that cover a range of Israel‐related topics, from the Israeli‐Palestinian conflict to the Middle East water crisis. Since 2006, it has been particularly active doing educational outreach to mainline Protestant churches, which at times have supported divestment from companies doing business in Israel. Volunteer speakers, who are trained by the CRC, have presented a mainstream Jewish perspective of the Arab‐Israeli conflict to over 35 churches in the metro area. Currently, the subcommittee is also focusing on countering the global movement to delegitimize Israel through boycotts and divestment.
