Week 1 and 2 Players U7 – U8 Dribbling Objectives: To develop movement abilities: Agility, balance, coordination, Warm Up “The Network” 10 minutes (2 mites break) dribbling with the head up, running with the ball, turning the ball. Description: Place cones. Each player starts at a cone. Starting cone is called "home". Ask players to move from cone to cone in a variety of ways. At first try the activity without the ball. A) Run and touch a cone. See how many they can touch before "home" is called. B) Run and hop over a cone with two feet. C) Run and touch a cone with their hand. Then add a ball. A) Dribble from cone to cone. Don't touch the cones. B) Dribble around a cone and then go to a new one. C) Dribble around a cone and then go to a different colored cone. Key Coaching Points: Running with the ball using pinky toe or laces. Turning the ball with the inside or outside of the foot. SSG “Freeze Tag” 10 minutes (2 minutes break) Objectives: To develop: dribbling with the head up. How to dribble to keep possession (turning the ball) Awareness Description: Make a playing area with cones. Each player has a ball. The coach is "it". Players dribble their soccer ball and try to stay away from being tagged. If tagged, they are frozen. Frozen player has to stand and hold their ball above their head and spreads their legs apart. To get unfrozen, someone has to pass the ball under a frozen player's legs. Key Coaching Points: Keep the head up while dribbling Turn the ball with the inside or outside of the foot. Exp. SSG “Game to an end zone”10 m. (2 m. Break) Objective: To develop running with the ball, dribbling past an opponent (penetrate), turning the ball to keep the ball away from an opponent. Description: Create an end zone on both ends. Place a ball in each end zone. Start with a game ball. When a team dribbles the ball into the other team's end zone, they then get a ball from their defensive end zone and try again. The first team to get all three balls into one end zone wins. Note: Only one ball is in play at a time. Key Coaching Points Dribbling to beat an opponent. Dribbling to turn the ball away from an opponent to keep possession. Game. 4 v 4 (numbers) 2 x 12 minutes (1 m. break) Objective: To develop technical application within a small game. To develop attacking principles of play: Penetration, Support, and Width. (Depth) To develop defending principles of play: Pressure, Cover, Balance (compactness) Description: Two teams, no goalkeepers. Number of players on each team: adjust to what you have, prefer 4 v 4. Key Coaching Points: Application of technique, dribble with the head up. "Diamond Shape" while on attack. All kick ins. Week 3 - 4 Players U7 - U8 Passing and Receiving Objectives: To develop ground passing and receiving with accuracy Warm Up “Passing and Move Around”10 m. (2 m. brk) Redirecting the ball (Take it somewhere new) Mobility. Description: Two players one ball inside a grid (size according to the number of players) pass and move around, passes on the ground to their teammate(s). After a pass find another open area to receive the ball. Key Coaching Points: Keep passes on the ground. When receiving a pass, redirect the ball and take it somewhere new. Open your body Use the inside part of your foot to pass and receive. Find another space to receive the ball back. Small Sided Game 3 v 1 Keep Away 10 m. (2 m break) Objectives: To develop ground passing and receiving, accuracy, redirecting the ball and movement. Description: Two grids, 4 players on each grid, 3 v 1 keep away, adjust number of players as you need, alternate defenders and 1 or 2 minutes. If the defender gets the ball players can kick/dribble out of the grid. Key Coaching Points: Keep pass on the ground. Receive and pass with inside part of the foot. When receiving redirect the ball to an open space. After pass move to an open area to support. Exp. SSG “Game to 4 Small Goals” 10 m. (2 m. Break) Objectives: To develop application of passing and receiving technique To develop attacking principles: Penetration, support, width, depth. Description: Put two small goals on both ends. Two teams. Each team attacks two goals and defends two goals. Coach in the middle with all balls, when the playing ball goes out, coach will distribute a new ball to an open area. Key Coaching Points: Received and pass with the inside part of the foot. Open your body. Pass on the ground. When receiving the ball-redirected- to an open space. Remind them they can score on two goals. Game 4 v 4 (numbers) 2 x 12 minutes (1 minutes break) Objectives: Develop of passing technique, movement to an open space, redirecting the ball. Description: Field with 2 small goals, 4 v 4 (adjusted as you need) balls with the coach in the middle of the field. When the ball goes out re- start with a kick-in. Key Coaching Points: Passing and receiving with inside part of the foot, open your body when receiving the ball, re-directing the ball to an open space. All kick ins Week 5 - 6 Players U7 - U8 Dribbling to Penetrate Objectives: Develop dribbling to penetrate and go forward to an open Warm Up “Phone Booth Tag” 10 m. (2 m. break) space. Description: Inside a playing grid (size according to number of players) create 3 or 4 squares with cones (Phone Booth). Select 1 or 2 players to be “it” and chase the other players, each phone both is a safe base for players who run in to. Only 2 players can be on the booth, If is more the 2, player who has been there longest most leave or became “it” Key Coaching Points: Dribble quick to space (inside the booth) keep ball closed to your feet. Objectives: SSG “Gain Possession to Penetrate” 10 m. (2 m break) Develop quick decisions when gain passion of the ball and penetrate in to open area. Description: Inside a playing grid (size according to number of players) mark with cones the middle of the gird. Play keep away in one half of the grid, when the defensive team gains possession of the ball, they quick move to the other side of the grid to keep away there. Key Coaching Points: Keep the ball closed to your feet, first touch in into the space in front of the players, and accelerate. Exp. S.S. “Game to an end zone” 10 m. (2 m. break) Objective: To develop running with the ball, dribbling past an opponent (penetrate), keep the ball away from an opponent. Description: Create an end zone on both ends. (2 m. break) To develop passing skills with accuracy. Passing to penetrate and attack Description: On a marked grid (size according to the number of players), set up 5 or 6 sets of small goals with the cones, two players 1 ball one player pass the ball the other receives in the other side of the goal. Move to the next. Key Coaching Points: Pass with the inside part of the foot, weight and accuracy of the pass, when receiving the pass, receive across the body and move the ball to a new space. Objectives: SSG “Playing to Support Players” 10 m. (2 m break) To develop passing skills to penetrate, find a team mate on the opposite side of the field, look up and awareness on the field. Description: On a rectangular marked grid (size according to the number of players) Play 3 v 3 keep away with 4 support players (outside of the grid). The objective is to find a support plyer open to pass. When the ball goes out, coach send in a new ball. Rotate the support players every 2 or 3 minutes. Key Coaching Points: Pass with inside part of the foot, look up and find an open target, received across your body, weight of the pass. Penetration. Exp. S.S. “Pass to the end zone” 10 m. (2mits. Break) Objectives: Develop passing skills to penetrate, look up and awareness of the field. Description: On a rectangular marked grid (size according to the number of players) play 4 v 4 to end zone. To score you need to pass to your team mate inside of the end zone area. When the ball goes out, coach distribute another ball.
