LIMPOPO WATER MANAGEMENT AREA WATER RESOURCES SITUATION ASSESSMENT MAIN REPORT OVERVIEW The water resources of South Africa are vital to the health and prosperity of its people, the sustenance of its natural heritage and to its economic development. Water is a national resource that belongs to all the people who should therefore have equal access to it, and although the resource is renewable, it is finite and distributed unevenly both spatially and temporally. The water also occurs in many forms that are all part of a unitary and inter-dependent cycle. The National Government has overall responsibility for and authority over the nation’s water resources and their use, including the equitable allocation of water for beneficial and sustainable use, the redistribution of water and international water matters. The protection of the quality of water resources is also necessary to ensure sustainability of the nation’s water resources in the interests of all water users. This requires integrated management of all aspects of water resources and, where appropriate, the delegation of management functions to a regional or catchment level where all persons can have representative participation. This report is based on a desktop or reconnaissance level assessment of the available water resources and quality and also patterns of water requirements that existed during 1995 in the Limpopo Water Management Area, which occupies a portion of the Northern Province. The report does not address the water requirements beyond 1995 but does provide estimates of the utilisable potential of the water resources after so-called full development of these resources, as this can be envisaged at present. -

University of Cape Town ABSTRACT This dissertation uses the historical figure of Joao Albasini to explore some historiographical issues related to how people commemorate their past. Joao Albasini was a Portuguese trader who operated through the port of Delagoa Bay for a large part of the 19th Century. He was based in Portuguese East Africa in the l 830's and early l 840's, and moved into what would become the Transvaal in the late 1840's, becoming a powerful political force in the region. This thesis looks at the strikingly different ways in which Albasini has been remembered by different individuals and groups. Part 1 deals with his South African family's memories of him, focusing in particular on the portrayal of Albasini in a celebration held in 1988 to commemorate the centenary of his death. This is compared with fragments of earlier family memories, in particular, with the testimony of his second daughter recorded in newspaper articles, letters and notes. This comparison is used to argue that the memories of Albasini are being shaped both by a changing social context, and by the influence of different literary genres. -

MAYOR SELAMOLELA MS’S BRIEFING NOTES TO THE OFFICIAL HANDOVER OF RATANANG SPECIAL SCHOOL HOSTEL As we welcome you to this peaceful municipality it calls on allof us to give you a brief on the state of our Municipality Blouberg local municipality was originally established in the year 2000 after the amalgamation of the Bochum- My-Darling TLC, Alldays –Buysdorp TLC and other portions of Moletji- Matlala TLC. This municipality is one of the five municipalities constituting Capricorn District municipality. Other municipalities constituting the Capricorn District municipality are: Aganang, Lepelle- Nkumpi, Molemole and Polokwane. • Blouberg Local Municipality is situated approximately 95 kilometers from Polokwane towards the far northern part of the Capricorn District municipality. It is bordered by Aganang on the south, Molemole on the southwest, Makhado on the northeast, Lephalale on the northwest, Mogalakwena on the southwest and Musina on the north. • In the year 2006 the government approved the decision by the municipal demarcation board to incorporate settlements of Vivo, Tolwe, Maastroom, Swaartwater and Baltimore which were in the Makhado Local municipality and Lephalale Local municipality. (Notice 642, Gazette 1314, December 2006) The new settlements demarcated into the Blouberg municipality are Uitkyk No. 01 and Overdyk villages which has increased the number of settlements to 125. • The municipality has an estimated population of 194 113 (Statistics South Africa 2007 Community Survey). It covers approximately 9257.8 square kilometers. The number of wards is 21 with 125 settlements and 35 598 households. The recent statistics by Stats SA Census 2011 gives a different picture with regard to the population. -
