This complexity is primarily due to high variability of pollutants, contaminants and related parameters. The macrophytes are plausible bio-indicators of the pollution load and level of metals within the aquatic systems than the wastewater or sediment analyses. The potential ability of aquatic macrophytes in natural water bodies receiving municipal sewage from Solapur city was assessed. Data from the studies on macrophytes exposed to a mixed test bath of metals and examined to know their potentialities to accumulate heavy metals for judging their suitability for phytoremediation technology -

Summary - Reasons for Selection/Interest of Site: Very extensive mosaic of ‘ffridd’ habitats and former mine spoil supporting complex of semi- upland and lowland habitats, partly contained within conifer plantation. Main components are ancient semi-natural woodland fragments, other semi-natural woodlands (mainly upland oak, Quercus sp) together with wet woodlands of alder (Alnus glutinosa), wet heathland, dry heathland, marshy grassland and semi-improved neutral grasslands. Also there are some bracken slopes, scrub, small ponds, streams and sections of dismantled railway. There are areas of semi- improved acid grasslands to the south especially. The habitats intergrade to form a complex mosaic, and may therefore also include some small areas of improved or low diversity semi- improved grassland, but any such areas are a very minor component. Great crested newt occurs in small pools within the SINC, and noctule and pipistrelle bats have both been recorded. Water vole may occur and a small badger sett is present. -
Hybridization Dynamics of Invasive Cattail (Typhaceae) Stands at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute: a Molecular Analysis
HYBRIDIZATION DYNAMICS OF INVASIVE CATTAIL (TYPHACEAE) STANDS AT PIERCE CEDAR CREEK INSTITUTE: A MOLECULAR ANALYSIS Alex Graeff, Kelsey Huisman, and Dr. Pamela J. Laureto Department of Biological Sciences Grand Rapids Community College 143 Bostwick NE Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503 ABSTRACT Three cattail taxa are recognized in Michigan USA: native Typha latifolia (broad-leaf cattail), the invasive Typha angustifolia (narrow-leaf cattail), and the hybrid of these two species Typha × glauca. Typha angustifolia and T. × glauca are of special interest because of their ability to aggressively spread and out-compete the native cattail T. latifolia. Typha × glauca has been shown to out-compete both its parental taxa and produce monospecific stands. We surveyed the Pierce Cedar Creek Institute (PCCI) property for cattails and located 25 distinct cattail marshes. We determined the total area of cattail marsh at PCCI to be roughly 10% of the 267 ha property. Cattail individuals were sampled from each of the 25 stands and random amplified polymorphic DNA markers were used to identify the individuals to species. We found that 20 of the 25 stands were monospecific for the native cattail, T. latifolia. Five of the stands were mixtures of the native T. latifolia and the introduced T. angustifolia, and T. × glauca was found in two of the mixed stands. We recommend removal of the invasive T. angustifolia and T. × glauca individuals and the establishment of a monitoring plan in order to maintain the long-term health of the cattail marshes at PCCI. (= Alt- vatergebirge; Czech Republic) are presented. Immature stages of E. sudetica are described here for the first time. Both species have been reared to maturity from eggs laid by females caught in the wild. Out of accord with hitherto attainments, both species preferred Festuca supina as the main host plant (in choice experiments, E. epiphron preferred Avenella flexuosa). In rearing experiments, the species overwintered only once and finished their development within a one-year period. Highest mortality of individuals appeared during overwintering of L2- [E. sudetica) and L3-larvae (E epiphron). Federico Selvi A critical checklist of the vascular flora of Tuscan Maremma (Grosseto province, Italy) Abstract Selvi, F.: A critical checklist of the vascular flora of Tuscan Maremma (Grosseto province, Italy). — Fl. Medit. 20: 47-139. 2010. — ISSN 1120-4052. The Tuscan Maremma is a historical region of central western Italy of remarkable ecological and landscape value, with a surface of about 4.420 km2 largely corresponding to the province of Grosseto. A critical inventory of the native and naturalized vascular plant species growing in this territory is here presented, based on over twenty years of author's collections and study of relevant herbarium materials and literature. The checklist includes 2.056 species and subspecies (excluding orchid hybrids), of which, however, 49 should be excluded, 67 need confirmation and 15 have most probably desappeared during the last century. Considering the 1.925 con- firmed taxa only, this area is home of about 25% of the Italian flora though representing only 1.5% of the national surface. The main phytogeographical features in terms of life-form distri- bution, chorological types, endemic species and taxa of particular conservation relevance are presented. Species not previously recorded from Tuscany are: Anthoxanthum ovatum Lag., Cardamine amporitana Sennen & Pau, Hieracium glaucinum Jord., H. maranzae (Murr & Zahn) Prain (H. neoplatyphyllum Gottschl.), H. murorum subsp. tenuiflorum (A.-T.) Background Aith Meadows and Burn of Aith SSSI is situated in Cunningsburgh, Shetland. It contains extensive wet meadows, traditionally managed for hay. The notified biological features are lowland neutral grassland and fen meadow. These are classified as in ‘favourable’ but ‘declining’ condition. The declining condition of the meadows is largely attributed to a decrease in active management. -

Butterfly Conservation South-Central England Regional Action Plan This action plan was produced in response to the Action for Butterflies project funded by WWF, EN, SNH and CCW by Dr Andy Barker, Mike Fuller & Bill Shreeves August 2000 Registered Office of Butterfly Conservation: Manor Yard, East Lulworth, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 5QP. Executive Summary This document sets out the 'Action Plan' for butterflies, moths and their habitats in South- Central England (Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight & Wiltshire), for the period 2000- 2010. It has been produced by the three Branches of Butterfly Conservation within the region, in consultation with various other governmental and non-governmental organisations. Some of the aims and objectives will undoubtedly be achieved during this period, but some of the more fundamental challenges may well take much longer, and will probably continue for several decades. The main conservation priorities identified for the region are as follows: a) Species Protection ! To arrest the decline of all butterfly and moth species in South-Central region, with special emphasis on the 15 high priority and 6 medium priority butterfly species and the 37 high priority and 96 medium priority macro-moths. ! To seek opportunities to extend breeding areas, and connectivity of breeding areas, of high and medium priority butterflies and moths. b) Surveys, Monitoring & Research ! To undertake ecological research on those species for which existing knowledge is inadequate. Aim to publish findings of research. ! To continue the high level of butterfly transect monitoring, and to develop a programme of survey work and monitoring for the high and medium priority moths. -

The Habitats and Vegetation (NVC) of Ardersier Port Proposed for Development
The Habitats and Vegetation (NVC) of Ardersier Port proposed for Development [Redacted] , Sept 2018 1 Introduction A National Vegetation Classification (NVC) survey was undertaken of Ardersier covering about 200 ha. The site is situated close to the village of Ardersier in Moray. In parallel to the NVC survey a Phase 1 Habitat survey was undertaken. The purpose of these surveys was to determine the conservation value of the site and to assess the ecological value of the wetland habitat of the site in terms of the Ground Water Dependent Terrestrial Ecosystems (GWDTE) that it contains. Detailed descriptions of each of the habitats and NVC communities is presented below. The NVC classification is based on Rodwell (1991a, 1991b, 1992, 1995 and 2000) and the Phase 1 Habitats on the JNCC (2010). It should be noted that the descriptions in the report are based mainly on the information contained in the Appendices of this report and of the digital map supplied. All the maps in this report have been produced using ArcMap 10.6 and the shape file is available. In view of the proposed development of the area, following the habitat and NVC descriptions, an ecological assessment of the site is presented. The field survey was undertaken over three full days by the author from 6th August to 8th 2018. 1.1 The Appendices This contains much of the compiled data from which the habitat and plant community descriptions have been derived. In Appendix A and in Table 1 a list of all the NVC codes that have been mapped along with the main Phase 1 Habitats associated with this site are presented. -
