Mexico 59/163 High Potential for Peace Most regions in the nation face strong challenges… In 2017, the cost of violence was equivalent to roughly 1/5 of Mexico’s GDP, which is the world’s 15th largest economy. … but we also have a strong potential for peace. The Institute for Economics and Peace How to foster that has identified 8 Factors Potential? that are common across resilient societies Positive The attitudes, institutions and structures that create and sustain Peace peaceful societies Factors [Pillars] of Positive Peace Rotary has been developing and strengthening an Alliance with IEP 7 In this context emerged the proposal for Global Grant GG-1747287 1st National Encounter A Stronger Mexico: Pillars of Positive Peace A Strategic Training for young leaders and peace-builders OBJECTIVES Objective 1 Equip young leaders with tools and skills in peace-building and conflict resolution, based on the conceptual framework of Positive Peace. The Training was possible thanks to the sponsorship and support from 19 Rotary Districts and Clubs across Mexico, the United States and Canada Participants arrived from all over Mexico by Air and Land To attain and reinforce knowledge and skills during conferences, plenary sessions, dynamics, and workshops The Opening Remarks were made by the President of the Universidad de las Américas Puebla, a former Secretary of Economy & Minister of Foreign Affairs Team: Allies from Rotary & IEP, Organizing Team, Speakers, Workshop Facilitators, Volunteers Rotary Partners from Arizona (International Sponsor RC of Sun City & RD 5490), IEP Team from New York and Mexico City, Speakers & Organizing Team The Pillars of Positive Peace… … were also explored into a dynamic… … that became iconic to the Encounter. LANDMARK A Strategic Training for young leaders and peace-builders from all across the nation The Monitoring & Evaluation Coordination gathered information an analyzed the outputs, outcomes and impacts of the Encounter. This work, commissioned to True Roots International, is available at the Rotary Grant Center, both in English and Spanish. Before finalizing, it is worth noticing that this project had the added value of bringing together as many Rotary Peace Fellows as possible. It proved a great collaboration and showcases the potential of combining resources and programs lead by The Rotary Foundation, such as the Global Grants scheme and the Peace Fellowship.
