    “HALLMARK DRAMA’S CHRISTMAS COOKIE MATCHUP” CAST BIOS ERIN KRAKOW– Best known for her starring role as Elizabeth Thatcher-Thornton in Hallmark Channel's “When Calls the Heart” and her recurring role on Lifetime Television’s “Army Wives,” Erin Krakow has graced both the stage and screen during her acting career. Krakow is a classically trained actor and graduated with a BFA from The Juilliard School. She had starring roles in a number of the esteemed school’s productions, including Viola and Sebastian in Twelfth Night, Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Yelena in Black Russian. Beyond her work at Juilliard, Krakow has appeared in many prominent stage roles, including Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest and Shelby in the stage adaptation of Steel Magnolias. Krakow has transitioned from stage to screen, earning series regular, recurring and guest- starring roles on top television series. On Lifetime’s “Army Wives,” Krakow played the recurring role of Specialist Tanya Gabriel. She also earned the recurring role of Molly on CBS’s hit daytime soap “Guiding Light.” Krakow guest-starred on “Castle” for ABC, “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “NCIS” for CBS and “Good Girls Revolt” for Amazon/Sony. Elizabeth Thatcher-Thornton on “When Calls the Heart” is not Krakow’s only beloved character for Hallmark Channel. (FMAB 107C) Course Description: Since it first appeared as a series of short animations on the Tracy Ullman Show (1987), The Simpsons has served as a running commentary on the lives and attitudes of the American people. Its subject matter has touched upon the fabric of American society regarding politics, religion, ethnic identity, disability, sexuality and gender-based issues. Also, this innovative program has delved into the realm of the personal; issues of family, employment, addiction, and death are familiar material found in the program’s narrative. Additionally, The Simpsons has spawned a series of animated programs (South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, Rick and Morty etc.) that have also been instrumental in this reflective look on the world in which we live. The abstraction of animation provides a safe emotional distance from these difficult topics and affords these programs a venue to reflect the true nature of modern American society. Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to provide the intellectual basis for a deeper understanding of The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, and Rick and Morty within the context of the culture that nurtured these animations. The student will, upon successful completion of this course: (1) recognize cultural references within these animations. (2) correlate narratives to the issues about society that are raised.

    ‘THE IRRESISTIBLE BLUEBERRY FARM' CAST BIOS ALISON SWEENEY (Ellen) – For Alison Sweeney, anything is possible. She’s a successful actress, TV host, producer, director and author who constantly inspire others with her balance of career with her focus on family, health and wellness. Sweeney is currently busy filming and producing TV movies for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. On October 2, 2016, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries will premiere “ The Irresistible Blueberry Farm,” for which she is both star and executive producer. Her additional projects for the channels have included four movies for the “Murder She Baked” franchise and “Love On The Air.” She’s also hosting several upcoming specials for the Food Network including the “Kids Halloween Baking Championship” on October 5. She is also bringing her Hollywood insider’s knowledge and keen sense of romance and fun to her novels. Her latest novel, Opportunity Knocks, was released in April 2016 and is from the perspective of a fledgling makeup artist. Her previous novels include Scared Scriptless, with a script supervisor as the lead, and The Star Attraction, based on the story of a publicist. New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult described Sweeney’s book as “Great fun for any reader who secretly sneaks peeks at People magazine in the checkout line at the grocery store, and wonders, What if…?” In addition to her fiction writing, Sweeney previously released two non-fiction books, the first of which was All The Days Of My Life (So Far) in 2004. In 2010, she released The Mommy Diet, where she revealed the “diet” of nutrition, fitness and self-care that women can follow to look and feel fantastic – before and during pregnancy, and after giving birth.

As a genre-specific theoretical tool for viewers-- and readers-- of television texts, this thesis provides a means to an end: a way to "fine tune" our perception and understanding ofpostmodern comedy, and more importantly, provide concrete means to analyze the structure and implicit messages of one of its primary modes of expression--the prime time television situation comedy. Two case studies will consider the linguistic and textual construction of The Simpsons and Home Improvement and show how each sitcom relies on a postmodern power play between competing interests to engage the audience, subvert, and yet also subtly reinforce some ofour traditional notions ofgender and family relations in a patriarchal society.
