A Memoir from the Golden Years of M-G-M to the Six Million Dollar Man to Today (hardback): 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Charismatic actor Richard Anderson just publish his Memoir Book.By PICAUD Marie-ChristineAmerican actor and Hollywood legend Richard Anderson, one of our most gracious movie icons, began his career during the big studio's heydays, living out his acting dream from the Great Depression through the Golden years of the "City of Angels." Richard would come fully into his own as an actor in the then-new new medium that would revolutionize the way audiences would view movies and all types of entertainment, TV, during what many consider to be its classic era, the 1960's. As a child, I grew up following his numerous TV series and films on into the mid 70's and 80's. The versatile actor, who co-stared with Kirk Douglas in director Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory, is now reflecting with true soul and sincerity about his own path of life in At Last... a Memoir: From the Golden Years of MGM To the Six Million Dollar Man to Now. Long awaited by both fans, friends and associates alike, the book was just released by BearManor Media....A book that will delight all readers by its warm and engaging tone, funny and epic movie tales with our greatest actors, and also some heartbreaking touching moments about his personal life never told before, and how, ultimately, life, friends, family, blessings and love have defined the man he is .... Although Mr Richard Anderson has always been fairly private concerning his own life story, here he now shares all of his "front of the camera" and "behind the scenes" experiences with his readers, as told to his co-writer, Mr Al Doshna, in a very vivid yet personal manner, as if you were chatting with an old friend. The book is pleasant, clear and with lots of selected pictures and illustrations that further enrich its iconography and subject. To lovers of vintage Hollywood Studio history, avid movie goers, TV series fans and geeks as well as followers of classic "cult" B-movies: believe me, it is a real delight - by all means, read it! Richard Anderson is a gifted artist who has decided to share his gifts with us through the great story of his own personal fullfillment of the American Dream...1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A must read for bionic fans as well as fans of the whole television and film genresBy RahnayPut on your shoes and grab your coat and get ready to visit Richard Anderson, star of film and television. In reading Richard Anderson At Last...A Memoir it feels as though Richard has invited you over into his living room to tell his life story of working on the big screen, television as well as his other life contributions. Alan Doshna does an excellent job of capturing Richard's idiolect throughout the entire book. It tells of Richard's earlier works such as Curse of the Faceless Man and also Forbidden Planet which remains popular today in which some may consider the “father” of the science fiction film. It also talks of what some may consider his major television works, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman as well as producing all three bionic reunion movies. Richard gives an in depth look at what it was like to work behind the camera and how enjoying as well as grueling it could be especially working in the days of CinemaScope. He also delves into his personal life and also for his love of the automobile. Richard Anderson is thought to be a true gentleman and a rare breed and this book exemplifies it. This book was a delight to read and is a much need read for fans of film and television, since Richard contributed a huge part to both genres. This is the hardback version. Richard Anderson is perhaps best-known in recent years for his roles as the Narrator, Captain Stiles, in the television series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (1993-1997) with David Carradine and Chris Potter, as well as his role as Buck Fallmont in Dynasty (1986-1987). Finally, the full story of his life and incredible career are revealed in his sensational autobiography. From humble beginnings as a young actor to his first contract with MGM, Richard's first big impressions on moviegoers were as Chief Quinn in Forbidden Planet (1956) with Walter Pidgeon and Anne Francis and as Tom McAffee in The Buster Keaton Story (1957) starring Donald O'Connor. In the early years of what we now call Classic TV, his dozens of appearances were in such memorable series as Zorro (1958-1959), The Untouchables (1960), Thriller with Boris Karloff (1960), The Rifleman (1960-1963), The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1964), many appearances on Perry Mason (1966), The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1966), and Mission Impossible (1967), to name but a few. ??Richard eventually became one of the most familiar faces on television in his role as Oscar Goldman in The Six Million Dollar Man (1974-1978) and The Bionic Woman (1976-1978). We Can Rebuild Him and Her: Bionic Irony, Hysteria, and Post-Fordism’s Technological Fix in The Six Million Dollar Man Simon Orpana University of Alberta The working man’s crash landing Silvia Federici and George Caffentzis have observed that, when it comes to utopian visions regarding the societal benefits of space travel, it is not so much the alleged reasons for making a journey to Mars that matter but “what they can do to you on Mars when they get you there” (58). Pro- grams such as the Apollo missions or even current speculation about manned missions to Mars, whatever scientific benefits might be expected, simultaneously generate a host of less obvious outcomes that are nonethe- less useful from the point of view of social control, nation building, and ideological reinforcement. Collecting moon rocks might have added to the storehouse of human knowledge, but the Apollo missions were also immensely useful to the U.S. government for providing a unifying goal by which to capture the national imagination in the midst of such legitima- tion crises as those related to Vietnam, the Cold War, and environmental destruction. We might go further, with Caffentzis and Federici, and discern in the asceticism and other-worldliness required by space exploration a way of disciplining the terrestrial labour force: “The launch of today’s high-tech industry needs a technological leap in the human machine—a big evolutionary leap in creating a new type of worker to match capital’s ESC 42.1–2 (March/June 2016): 89–114 investment needs” (61). GUNSMOKE TV CAST AND DETAILS Premiered: September 10, 1955, on CBS Rating: TV-PG Premise: This landmark adult Western centered on Marshal Matt Dillon of Dodge City. John Wayne turned down the lead, suggesting James Arness (who remained for its entire run). Originating on radio (with William Conrad as Dillon), it moved to TV in September 1955. Its popularity spawned a number of copycats, but none would enjoy the longevity (and few the consistent quality) of this classic.
