For Immediate Release Monday February 7, 2011 Stenson to Face For Immediate Release Monday February 7, 2011 Stenson to face Kaymer in Charity Challenge Tournament host Henrik Stenson of Sweden will face arguably his toughest opponent to date when he takes on European Number One Martin Kaymer of Germany at the Princess Charity Challenge, on July 4, 2011. Having defeated Australian Adam Scott in 2009 and Denmark’s Søren Kjeldsen last year Stenson, who named the tournament after his daughter Lisa, boasts a 100 per cent record in the Charity Challenge, which will be played the day after The Princess by Schüco at its new venue, PGA of Sweden National in Bara, Sweden. The format of the Charity Challenge – created to raise funds for the Henrik Stenson Foundation, which aims to support and encourage children to reach their full potential through playing sport – will be 18 holes of match play. Both men earned their European Tour cards through the Challenge Tour, with Stenson topping the Rankings in 2000 courtesy of three victories and Kaymer finishing in fourth position after just eight appearances thanks largely to his victory on his debut at the Vodafone Challenge, held in his home town of Düsseldorf. Reigning US PGA Champion Kaymer, who won The 2010 Race to Dubai and recently took his tally of European Tour titles to nine with his victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, is currently behind only England’s Lee Westwood in the Official World Golf Ranking and will present a formidable foe – a fact not lost his stablemate Stenson, himself a six-time European Tour champion. He said: “Martin is the best player in the world, on current form. He doesn’t have any weaknesses, either in his game or his approach. Personally, that’s exactly what I look for in a Challenge! Martin is not only one of the best golfers in the world, but he’s also a great person and I’m proud to call him a friend. Like me Martin is a product of the Challenge Tour and a testament to the qualities of the Tour. “There’s no better preparation for the challenges on the main Tour, and all over the world. I host The Princess every year because I feel that it is absolutely vital for Sweden to have a solid Challenge Tour event. Without this stepping stone, the transition from national golf to The European Tour is simply too big for many players to make.” Kaymer said: “I take a lot of interest in what Henrik’s doing for Swedish Golf, and the development of the next generation. Sweden is still ahead of us in Germany, and I look up to these older guys! Henrik is putting a great effort into both his Foundation and his Challenge Tour event, and so I’m very happy to be able to support these initiatives. “I learned a great deal on the Challenge Tour, and it was a springboard for the things to come. I am not only taking on Henrik on the course, I will do the same off it! So look out for a similar undertaking in Germany in the near future. I’m both proud and happy to assume the role of role model for young golfers in Germany, and elsewhere for that matter. It’s a responsibility I cherish. “Few things that young people have access to today teach values and ethics as well as the game of golf. We as golfers respect not only the game, the rules and the course, but more than anything our playing partners. We are our own referees, and the sport is completely clean.” Alain de Soultrait, Director of the Challenge Tour, said: “It is a privilege that two players of the quality of Henrik and Martin are supporting this tournament, and the Challenge Tour. Both players are fine ambassadors not only for our Tour, but for the game of golf in general. They both share the same vision we do of investing in the future, and the Charity Challenge is the perfect way of showing this.” Whilst open to people of all ages, the Charity Challenge is targeted primarily at youngsters. As well as the Challenge, there will also be a number of initiatives and workshops organized in conjunction with the tournament’s main partners, energy-efficiency firm Schüco and the Swedish Golf Federation. • 19Th Hole Stories for the World's Greatest Golfers
PRESS RELEASE WONDER HOW RYDER CUP CHAMPIONS CELEBRATE... Find out in the book Two Good Rounds- 19th Hole Stories for the World’s Greatest Golfers by Elisa Gaudet, now available on www.Amazon.com/uk in hardcover and on Kindle. Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Pardraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and many more share their stories. Everybody loves a celebration, and golfers are no exception. It has long been a tradition after a round of golf to gather together and celebrate a win or merely enjoy the company of friends, new and old, with a second round at “the 19th hole,” a slang term used in golf that refers to a pub, bar, or restaurant on or near the golf course. Two Good Rounds is an international tribute to 36 of the world's greatest male and female golfers and golf lifestyle, which often includes the enjoyment of drinks. In each chapter, golf writer Elisa Gaudet asks a notable professional golfer the same questions: What is your favorite drink? What is your favorite clubhouse, grill room or 19th hole? A special time, memory or celebration from a 19th hole? If you ever got a hole in one and if you bought the clubhouse a drink? This fun, feel-good respectful look inside the lives of Tour pro’s yields a wide array of answers ranging from crazy celebrations after a win to heartfelt memories of childhoods spent playing golf with family and friends. From the Arnold Palmer (½ lemonade, ½ iced tea) to the Guinness (the preferred drink of tour star Darren Clarke), to Luke Donald’s own wine brand and Graeme McDowell’s celebration after his US Open win.

  • Audemars Piguet Ambassador Henrik Stenson Wins the Wyndham Championship
AUDEMARS PIGUET AMBASSADOR HENRIK STENSON WINS THE WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP Henrik Stenson at the Wyndham Championship Le Brassus, Tuesday 22nd August 2017 – Henrik Stenson breaks tournament record and secures his first victory of the 2017 season at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, US, on Sunday 20th August. With four birdies on the last six holes and a final day score of 64, Henrik finished on 22-under par to take his 6th PGA Tour title. This makes him the most decorated male Swedish player on the American circuit. On the way to his 20th professional win, Henrik took his driver out of the bag and only used his 3- and 4-wood or long irons off the tee. After Ollie Schniederjans birdied holes 17 and 18 in an impressive manner to finish on 21-under, Henrik demonstrated excellent composure and holed a remarkable 30- foot putt on hole 17 followed by par on the final hole to take the trophy. It is Stenson’s first victory since winning The Open Championship in July 2016 in an unforgettable battle against Phil Mickelson. Thanks to this, the Audemars Piguet ambassador boosted his chances for the FedEx Playoffs moving from 75th to 23rd place going into the Northern Trust. "It's certainly a good time to start firing," Stenson said. "We know the kind of damage you can do in the playoffs. ... If you get hot and keep on playing well, you have a chance to challenge." This title is the result of continuous hard work and incredible passion for the game. Breaking the tournament and course record this weekend Henrik Stenson exemplifies Audemars Piguet’s brand philosophy “To break the rules, you must first master them”.

  • Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf
COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf Jeffrey Paadre This paper examines 10 years worth of PGA Tour Tournament data in order to examine whether or not clutch performance exists during the final round of a tournament. After controlling scores for differences in course difficulty, the paper finds no evidence of tangible clutch performance. The authors find that the perception of clutch performance is more likely attributable to talent differential between golfers. Assuming a normal distribution of golfer talent, it is possible that Tiger Woods can outshoot his opponents on the final day of a tournament as well as lose his lead to his competitors. Motivation and Literature In professional sports, heroes can be created through the concept of clutch performance. The perception of clutch performance occurs when an athlete raises his or her performance to an extraordinary level during the most important moments of a sporting event. Athletes such as David Ortiz and Adam Vinatieri have been immortalized as legends due to their consistent ability to help their teams win baseball and football games during important games where the outcome was hanging in the balance. Conversely Bill Buckner and Scott Norwood are amongst the unfortunate athletes burdened with reputations as choke artists based on their inability to perform well when their teams needed a high performance the most. One of the challenges that accompanies examining performance under pressure lies within trying to define which performances constitute clutch performance. For example, in 2005 John Henry, the owner of the Boston Red Sox, presented David Ortiz with a plaque inscribed “David Ortiz: The Greatest Clutch Hitter in the History of the Boston Red Sox”.
