For Immediate Release Contact:Marnie Klein [email protected] Oceanside Theatre Company at The Brooks kicks off its 2018 Music Series on Sunday, April 22, with two American blues treasures: The Rick Holmstrom Band and Nathan James and The Rhythm Scratchers. The Brooks Theatre is located at 217 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, California. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for happy hour. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. All seats are $25 and tickets are available online at www.oceansidetheatre.org. Holmstrom is an electric blues and rhythm and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter who has worked with musical legends such as Jimmy Rogers, Billy Boy Arnold, R.L. Burnside, Smokey Wilson, Johnny Dyer, William Clarke and Rod Piazza. Holmstrom is currently the bandleader for the great Mavis Staples and can be heard on her Grammy-winning album “You Are Not Alone.” Holmstrom has numerous studio recordings to his credit with his groundbreaking third album “Hydraulic Groove” peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart. Internationally acclaimed blues guitarist and Oceanside resident Nathan James is a well respected and experienced guitarist in his field, having created a musical identity with his handcrafted washboard guitar, mastery of the Piedmont finger style and passion for blues and American roots music. James has worked with such well known artists as Jamie Wood, Johnny Dyer, Kim Wilson, Pinetop Perkins, Janiva Magness, Rick Holmstrom, Mark Hummel, Gary Primich and blues veteran James Harman. With his trio, The Rhythm Scratchers, James forges a distinct sound that combines elements of 1920's acoustic blues, amplified juke joint hill country, and 1950's uptown blues mixed with 1960's soulful R&B. -

Establishing a Blues Hall of Fame enhances one of the founding programs of The Blues Foundation. The “Raise the Roof” campaign calls for up to $3.5 million to create a Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis. It will be the place to: honor inductees year-round; listen to and learn about the music; and enjoy historic mementos of this all-American art form. The new Blues Music Hall of Fame will be the place for serious Blues fans, casual visitors, and wide-eyed students. It will facilitate audience development and membership growth. It will expose, enlighten, educate, and entertain. Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners Formed in 1989, went on to win 1st Place in Budweiser Blues Challenge (Chicago) in both 1989 and 1990 1st Place Winners in Benson and Hedges Blues Talent Search in 1991 (National) In 1994, the syndicated radio show ‘Blues Stage’ on National Public Radio recorded a live show of the Nightburners at the Eureka Springs Arkansas Bluesfest, and the result was they became the 1st independent act ever to be aired several times on the show in that year, solely from call in requests. 1999 Semi-finalists in Fox Valley Blues Society Blues Talent Competition (IL) Extensive touring, CD Releases in ’90, ’94, and 2000. Shows with BB King, Buddy Guy, Etta James, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Taj Mahal, and countless more. 1st Place winners in the 2012 Chicago Blues Challenge Finalist in 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, and one of the 2 top selling CD’s (for the entire event) as well. In 2013, Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners beat all of the competing bands by nearly 1000 votes in a virtual voting contest that was held for the opening slot at the SinCity Blues and Soul Revival, and went on to great reviews of their Vegas performance.
