MEDIA RELEASE Tuesday 22 April2014 Mike Baird MP Andrew Stoner MP Premier of NSW Deputy Premier of NSW MEDIA RELEASE Tuesday 22 April2014 NEW ENERGY TO TRANSFORM NSW NSW Premier Mike Baird and Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner today announced a revitalised Cabinet team with five fresh faces ready to bring new energy to the task of transforming NSW. "This team will build on the outstanding achievements of the past three years and accelerate the delivery of vital new infrastructure and improved services, which is what the community expects" Mr Baird said. "We are well on track to repair NSW Labor's $30 billion infrastructure backlog and boosted frontline services with 5,000 extra police, teachers and nurses. "But more needs to be done, and this is the team to deliver it, with the right mixture of new energy and proven experience." The new Ministers are: . Pittwater MP Rob Stokes, who becomes Minister for the Environment, Minister for Heritage and Assistant Minister for Planning; . Dubbo MP Troy Grant, who becomes Minister for Hospitality, Gaming and Racing and Mlnister for the Arts; . Castle Hill MP Dominic Perrottet, who becomes Minister for Finance and Services; o Bathurst MP Paul Toole, who becomes Minister for Local Government; . Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell, who becomes Minister for Mental Health and Assistant Minister for Health. Significant changes in the new Cabinet include the appointments of Andrew Constance as Treasurer, Pru Goward as Minister for Planning, Brad Hazzard as Attorney General and Gabrielle Upton as Minister for Family and Community Services and Kevin Humphries as Minister for Land and Water. Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner will take on additional economic responsibilities with the portfolios of tourism, major events and small business, as well as Minister for the North Coast. There is also a significant boost for the Hunter Valley, with Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian to take on the role of Minister for the Hunter. The NSW Government is committed to improving conservation outcomes for our native species. On 25 August 2017, the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 commenced in NSW to enable sustainable land management and development. As part of these reforms, we have invested $240 million over five years to 2020- 21 and $70 million each following year in a new land conservation program delivered by the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust. As part of the land management reforms, we have also commenced the NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme that requires proponents to consider how they will avoid, minimise and offset the impacts of proposed development on biodiversity. The NSW Government has also invested $100 million over five years through the Saving our Species program to secure our threatened plants and animals in the wild for the next 100 years. Further detail on these reforms and how they are contributing to protecting important native species as well as other actions can be found in the attached submission. This extra time will allow NSW residents to significantly increase the uptake of vaccines in areas most affected by the current outbreak and across the state. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said higher vaccination rates and following the health orders are the only way to guarantee the further easing of restrictions. “Though the Pfizer supply is insufficient there is plenty of AstraZeneca, and updated federal health advice recommends anyone aged 18 and over in Greater Sydney should access the jab,” Ms Berejiklian said. “If you are unvaccinated, please organise a jab as soon as you possibly can, especially if you live in an LGA of concern.” Other restriction changes are as follows: From midnight tonight (28 July): In line with exercise rules, Greater Sydney residents including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour must limit their shopping to within their Local Government Area (LGA) or, if outside their LGA, within 10km from home, unless the item is not available locally. Given localised case numbers, the Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River LGAs will join the five existing LGAs of concern which are subject to an Authorised Workers Order.

    Dominic Perrottet Treasurer Gabrielle Upton Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier MEDIA RELEASE Thursday, 17 June 2021 NSW GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES NEW $28 MILLION MISSION TO TACKLE BUSHFIRE THREAT The NSW Government will direct $28 million into research and development and promoting new and emerging industries and technology to better prepare the state for future bushfires. NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the NSW Bushfire Response R&D Mission will receive $7 million per year for the next four years as part of this year’s 2021-22 NSW Budget to be handed down next week. “The 2019-20 bushfires claimed lives, destroyed thousands of homes and cost NSW billions, this investment will go towards reducing the impact of bushfires and responding in the most effective way possible,” Mr Perrottet said. “This focus on new technology to enhance planning, preparation and response will save jobs when a disaster strikes and boost jobs in new industries. "NSW is unfortunately one of the world's bushfire hotspots, so it makes sense that we should package our hard won know-how and take it to the world." Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Gabrielle Upton said the establishment of R&D Missions will address long-term strategic challenges facing NSW, and was a priority action of the “Turning Ideas into Jobs – Accelerating Research & Development in NSW Action Plan” launched in January 2021 by Premier Gladys Berejiklian. “R&D Missions tackle complex challenges that require the integration and translation of research and technology across government agencies,” Ms Upton said. “This funding will help establish a Bushfire Technology Network, engage NSW small business to develop and commercialise bushfire technologies and ensure that new technologies are tested by frontline NSW bushfire services.” The funding will also help address a number of recommendations from the NSW Bushfire inquiry such as establishing NSW as a major world centre for bush fire research, and technology development and commercialisation.

    Submission to the Senate Select Committee into the Political Influence of Donations Dr Charles Livingstone & Ms Maggie Johnson Gambling and Social Determinants Unit School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Monash University 9 October 2017 1 Introduction Gambling in Australia is a prime cause of avoidable harm, with the harms of gambling estimated to be of the same order of magnitude as alcohol, and far higher than that associated with illicit drug consumption. (Browne et al, 2016; 2017). The gambling industry is a major donor to Australian political parties and politicians and appears to hold considerable cachet with many political actors, at both federal and state level. In this, it appears to be similar to other industries that produce harmful products, such as alcohol and tobacco. Its purpose in donating to political parties and politicians is similar; it seeks to deny the harmful effects of its products, delay or wind back reform, avoid effective regulation, and continue to extract profits for as long as possible. a) The level of influence that political donations exert over the public policy decisions of political parties, Members of Parliament and Government administration; The Australian gambling industry has utilised political donations as a mechanism to exert considerable influence over relevant public policy. This has been facilitated by the current donations regime, which has numerous flaws from the perspective of transparency and support for policy that acts in the genuine interest of the public. The industry is both significantly resourced and politically organised, and has actively sought opportunities for political engagement via donations to politicians and political parties.
