HRH Princess Haya AL HUSSEIN President Mr Ingmar DE VOS Secretary General Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) Ref. SONY/sekn [email protected] By email Lausanne, 12 March 2014 Olympic scholarships for athletes “Rio 2016” Dear President, Secretary General, Please find attached a copy of the email sent to all NOCs regarding the above-noted programme for which you received the guidelines at the start of 2013. The programme offers individual athletes assistance, for training and attempting to qualify for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio. As you will have noted in the past scholarship reports, the programme represents a considerable investment, offers crucial support to athletes and can be considered as a true development tool for your sport around the world. The programme success has largely been due to the excellent technical support received by Olympic Solidarity (OS) from the IFs. This collaboration has become a tradition over time and we once again request your collaboration during the various implementation stages: 1. Programme’s objectives The principal objective of the programme is to assist athletes in their qualification for the next Olympic Games. We therefore suggest that you take this opportunity to inform your NFs of this opportunity, so that they can submit to their respective NOCs corresponding candidates, in order to maximise their chances of selection. 2. Candidature proposals Candidature proposals are generally submitted to the NOCs by the various NFs since they are the organisations closest to the athletes at national level. However, the selection of candidates to be proposed to OS remains at the discretion of the NOC. 3. Candidature screening process In order to guarantee that the athletes proposed by their NOCs have the technical ability required for Olympic qualification, every candidature should be analysed by OS in collaboration with the relevant IF before a decision is made as to the award or not of a scholarship. We propose to send you a list providing a summary of each candidature received, for an objective opinion (using a specific form provided by OS) on each athlete’s technical level and potential to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE – OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY Villa Mon-Repos, C.P. 1374, 1001 Lausanne, Switzerland, Tel. +41 21 621 6900 / Fax +41 21 621 6363 / [email protected] 4. High level training centres Olympic Solidarity is in the process of renewing its global training centre network and should your IF have a centre interested to accommodate athletes during their scholarship please let us know. Our primary focus will be on athletes originating from countries lacking in training facilities and we would be grateful if you could also let us know when in your opinion a candidate needs to be placed in a specialised training centre. 5. Contact person We should be grateful if you could confirm the name and email address of the person responsible within your IF who will be Olympic Solidarity’s primary contact for the administration of this programme in relation to the various points noted above. We naturally remain at your disposal for any comments you may have on this programme and confirm that the first list of candidatures will be sent to you in the second quarter of 2014. Yours sincerely, Pere Miró Olivier Niamkey Director of Olympic Solidarity Section Manager – Athletes Enc. Ment Ref. SONY/sekn Page 2/2 .
