It is my understanding this service is provided gratitude to an extraordinary group of individuals at no cost to those who participate. The director living in our community. of the Ocean County Health Department asks Bill Holencsak, President of the Men’s Club, and that those who do participate and have Medicare, a group of volunteers stepped up and offered to provide their Medicare information. cause associations to rethink their policies. We will have to review the possible changes brought on by this virus and adapt. Our hope is that one day we will all see the vibrant communities that we moved into rise from this catastrophe, but until that time comes to fruition, we must all be patient and do our best to remain safe and healthy. Remember to take a minute and thank the men and women who are serving or have served in the military as well as all the first responders and front line personnel who protect and serve this country daily to ensure our way of life and health. God Bless this country and these brave souls. They are the backbone of our communities and society. I’ll end this month with the following quote: “Obstacles aren’t roadblocks, they are stepping stones.” These were words I heard when I was trudging through some difficult times. To this day, when it appears there is an obstacle in my path, I re-think my circumstances and determine the benefit I can derive from the obstacles presented and how that information can help me move forward. The frustration that many of us feel during this pandemic, with all its restrictions, is just that, an obstacle. Personal growth comes from life’s obstacles and how we handle our individual experiences. We should all take the best we have gathered from this time and use it as a stepping stone to enhance our lives. I’ll restate my feelings from last month, I genuinely believe in the human spirit, its resilience and strength and I also believe we will be enjoying each other’s company again soon. Until then, stay safe and remain healthy. My best to everyone for a wonderful holiday season. Mike Signorile, President

IN ACTION An important part of our Neighborhood Watch Program is to get established and have as many members as possible throughout the entire community. Even though we cannot meet as a group, we can remain in contact with one another by phone and/or by email. To become a member, please phone or email me your full name, address, phone #, and your email address as soon as possible. This will ensure that you are kept updated and informed about all information pertaining to our crime-prevention program. COMMUNITY MEMBERS Neighborhood Watch members have several responsibilities. Most important is for you to remain active. Being active and interested will help create a level of excitement about the program as well as to help us recruit more members, leading to a higher level of crime prevention. The more eyes the better. As a member, try to stay informed about issues in our neighborhood and share as much as possible with as many members as possible. A knowledgeable neighborhood is a safer neighborhood. It's the program's wish that members and residents will begin to share and express concerns and ideas as well as to help establish possible action plans to help with lessening these concerns. If you'd like to be a Block Captain or a Team Leader for a particular area of the community, we are now accepting requests and we will let you know. Hopefully, we will get enough members spread out throughout the entire development. On another note, in the Community Connection Magazine, November/December 2020 Volume 6, Issue 8 Edition, you will find on Page 6 an important Neighborhood Watch message from Mayor Amato regarding Berkeley’s “See Something – Say Something” Campaign. Please take the time to read it and be sure to make note of the “Tip Line” (732-341-1132, Ext 611) as well as the email address: detective@ btpdnj.org for when you need to report anything suspicious. The Neighborhood Watch Group is looking into having some of those signs that were mentioned in the article, posted right here in the South, possibly at the entrances of our community. We’ll keep you posted if it’s going to happen. TIP OF THE MONTH CLOSE WINDOWS AND BLINDS AT NIGHT. A big-screen TV is a less enticing steal if no one knows it's there. Leaving your blinds or shades open and lights on at night provides a free look into your house, its layout, and the habits of its occupants. Also, leaving windows open at night or when you're gone is an invitation of an uninvited guest to come in. SCAM ALERT Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Covid-19: It seems legit, but then they ask for something in return– like your Social Security number. YOUR NEXT MOVE - HANG UP! As if the coronavirus outbreak wasn't stressful enough, thieves have been exploiting the pandemic to RIP you off. From January 1 to June 25, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) logged more than 78,000 fraudulent complaints related to the pandemic and victims have reported losing more than $97 million dollars by using emails, texts, phone calls, and digital ads to push everything from bogus charities to phony Covid-19 test kits. Cyber thieves are employing a variety of tricks in these new attempts to separate you from your money. Be smarter than they are. Until Next Month - Be Safe, Not Sorry! [email protected]

WOMEN’S CLUB By Sarah Mirasola Sudoku puzzle Hi everyone, it’s December - Merry Christmas, Solutions on page 45 Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year. Hopefully, you will be able to enjoy the holidays with your families and friends. Let 2021 be a much better 1. year than 2020. Nothing to report due to closing of the clubhouse and all events being canceled. Although businesses and restaurants have opened, the pandemic is still here, and you should continue being careful and staying safe. The tickets that were purchased for last year’s St. Patrick’s Day Roast Beef Dinner will be used for next year when the clubhouse opens. In case the clubhouse is not open by this time, refunds will be given only if you have a ticket. The Women’s Club thanks all the wonderful ladies for knitting the beautiful afghans for the soldiers which are needed and appreciated. Thank you again. This year, because of the virus, we are unable to give the holiday baskets to the families who need them. If you plan on going to Woodloch Pines in 2021, the dates are June 1 – 4. For more information 2. regarding this trip and to leave a deposit, call Alice. Also, when our meetings resume, please buy our 50/50 chances which help us pay for table setups at our meetings. Dorothy Schuh is our liaison for the USO, and Terri Capizzo is our Sunshine Lady (732-240-1223). Be sure to call Terri if you know of anyone who has been hospitalized or lost someone. These ladies are doing a great job. Also, our soldiers need knitted afghans, toiletries, and other items. Please bring your items or food to our monthly meetings and give them to Marge or Jean. Please support the Women’s Club by going on these great trips and attending our events. Tickets will be sold Friday mornings in the auditorium once the clubhouse is open.
