E-mail: [email protected] 3Corresponding author Abstract The species formerly known as Pachyprotasis nigronotata Kriechbaumer, 1874 in Japan is described as P. kojimai Taeger & Shinohara, sp. nov. Both taxa are not very closely related, but were hitherto mixed up because of their similar color- ation. The new species is endemic to the mountains of central Honshu and P. nigronotata is to be deleted from the fauna of Japan. Key words: Symphyta, sawflies, Japan, COI barcoding, relationships Introduction During an expedition to the Nagano area at Honshu, Japan, that was carried out by the first two authors together with Mr. Haruyoshi Kojima, several specimens of a very conspicuous bright green Pachyprotasis species were collected. In the field these specimens were named Pachyprotasis nigronotata, but already there it was noted that the latter species in Europe has a rather different appearance in coloration. Subsequently we noted that the species previously named nigronotata in Japan is hitherto undescribed. -

The Macrophya sibirica group was proposed by Li et al. (2016). A new species in this group, Macrophya nigro- trochanterata sp. nov. from Liaoning Province, China, is here described and illustrated. A key to all Chinese species and a distribution map of the M. sibirica group in China are provided. KEY WORDS. It is apparently the first amber fossil that can be definitively assigned to Tenthredininae. It displays two diagnostic forewing characters for this subfamily: having a bend distally in vein R and the junctions of veins M and Rs + M with vein R being some distance from each other. The variance and possible transitions between the anal vein configurations among the genera in Tenthredininae is briefly discussed. Keywords amber inclusion, sawfly, Tertiary, Eocene, taxonomy Introduction Tenthredinidae is the largest family of non-apocritan Hymenoptera by far, comprising more than 5500 described species (Huber 2009; Taeger & Blank 2010). Together with five other families they comprise the Tenthredinoidea or true sawflies. The larvae of the members of the superfamily are all herbivores and most are external feeders on green parts of angiosperms; however, other host plants and feeding modes (e.g., leafrolling, leafmining, or galling in leaves, buds and shoots; see Nyman et al. 1998, 2000) do occur. Recent comprehensive treatments of the phylogeny of the basal hymenopteran lineages, while providing strong support for the Tenthredinoidea, have consistently failed to retrieve the Tenthredinidae as monophyletic (Vilhelmsen 2001; Schulmeister 2003; Ronquist et al. -

A detailed analysis of features on which this genus is based further supported by a formal cladistic analysis demonstrates that Propachynolophus is not a valid taxon. The type species, “Propachynolophus gaudryi Lemoine, 1891” shall be assigned to Propalaeotherium Gervais, 1849, under the new combination Propalaeotherium gaudryi (Lemoine, 1891). “Pachynolophus maldani Lemoine, 1878”, later assigned to Propachynolophus, typifies the new genus Orolophus, under the binomen Orolophus maldani (Lemoine, 1878). The other referred species, “Propachynolophus levei Hooker, 1994” and “P. remyi Checa-Soler, 1997” are poorly documented, and both species shall be provisionally referred to as “Hyracotherium” levei (Hooker, 1994) and “Hyracotherium” remyi (Checa-Soler, 1997), pending new discoveries. Distribution data and host plants are here presented for 37 sawfly species. Cuesta Ruiz-Colmenares * RESUMEN El estudio sistemático de los Palaeotheriidae (Perissodactyla, Marnmalia) del Eoceno de la Cuenca del Duero (Castilla y León, España) ha permitido identificar tres nuevas es pecies: Palaeotherium giganteum nov. sp., Cantabrotherium casanovasae nov. sp. y Franze nium durense nov. sp., todas ellas del yacimiento de Mazaterón (Eoceno medio-Eoceno su perior, MP16-17, subcuenca de Almazán, Soria). Franzenium durense nov. sp. está tam bién presente en Caenes (Eoceno medio, MP16, área suroccidental, Salamanca). Las for mas descritas presentan una especial combinación de caracteres primitivos, principalmente en los premolares, con molarización prácticamente nula, y caracteres derivados, destacan do una acusada hipsodoncia; tal combinación es desconocida en el resto de especies de la familia. Biogeográficamente, muestran un acusado carácter endémico, con independencia casi completa de Europa occidental y del área subpirenaica, y sólo en algunos yacimientos peninsulares, Llamaquique (Oviedo) y Huérmeces del Cerro (Guadalajara), existen formas similares. En otros tres yacimientos, situados en el área suroccidental, Casaseca de Campeán (Eo ceno medio, MP13-14, Zamora). Simple Summary: Tenthredinidae is the most speciose family of the paraphyletic ancestral grade Symphyta, including mainly phytophagous lineages. The subfamilial classification of this family has long been problematic with respect to their monophyly and/or phylogenetic placements. This article reports four complete sawfly mitogenomes of Cladiucha punctata, C. magnoliae, Megabeleses magnoliae, and M. liriodendrovorax for the first time.
