Family Background: Father: Late Dr. V.N. Tewari was a Professor of Comparative Modern Indian Literature at Punjab University, Chandigarh. A nominated Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). He was assassinated by the terrorists in 1984.

Mother: Late Dr. (Mrs.) Amrit Kaur is a Professor Emeritus and Former Dean of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh. Former President of the Indian Dental Association. A Padam Shree Award winner.

Grand Father: Late Sardar Tirath Singh was a Senior Advocate in the Punjab & Haryana High Court. Freedom fighter and a Minister in various Congress Govt. of Punjab and the erstwhile State of PEPSU from 1950 – 1972.
