Al termine del quale sarò la forza del «documento» (dopo quell’immagine che si polverizzò forse (ovvero: indubitabilmente) di quindici minuti più vec- schermo colle in diretta sotto gli occhi di tutti) e la leggerezza dell’astrazione chio.˘ Riviste le due ore di quel capolavoro assoluto che è Playti- L’EQUIVOCO animata. Troppi conclamati «documentari» quest’anno a Can- me di Tati, qui omaggiato in 70millimetri, appare chiaro invece nes, spesso modesti, mentre tutti i film di una qualche intensità o quanto il più semplice e atroce specifico filmico, l’essere il cinema DELLA REALTÀ interesse (il tailandese Blissfully Yours, il messicano Japon,un un insaccato di tempo, un ammasso di rocchetti temporali, coreano..) giocano lo stesso gioco (magari triste, magari mostran- confermi solo l’inganno della durata (compresa quella della Enrico Ghezzi do il desiderio tenero crudele inane faticoso intralciato nel sesso nostra vita), resa materiale e come sottratta alla funzione di di corpi anziani) di Playtime, rivelano il sequestro del (nostro?) respiro dell’allucinazione (ottica) primaria che è lo spazio. Il capitolo ultimopresente della saga lucasiana. Statico, surplace, chiusi sempre dentro lo stesso fotogramma, dentro l’angusta e «tempo» concedendo allo spazio tutto il tempo, lasciando all’im- film che tra 67 e 68 (in coppia col successivo Hollywood Party di fatto di spazi meticolosamente analizzati, langhianamente im- bellissima ampiezza del settanta millimetri, prateria obbligata magine la possibilità di scompigliare l’attualità con il suo tempo Edwards) segnò il punto più radicale e anarchico di distruzione prigionati e imprigionanti, Playtime, immagine situazionista dove ogni sconfinamento è l’ingresso nella stessa riserva. -

1 Between Frames: Japanese Cinema at the Digital Turn Laura Lee, Florida State University Abstract: This article explores how the appearance of composite media arrangements and the prominence of the cinematic mechanism in Japanese film are connected to a nostalgic preoccupation with the materiality of the filmic image, and to a new critical function for film-based cinema in the digital age. Many popular Japanese films from the early 2000s layer perceptually distinct media forms within the image. Manipulation of the interval between film frames—for example with stop-motion, slow-motion and time-lapse techniques—often overlays the insisted-upon interval between separate media forms at these sites of media layering. Exploiting cinema’s temporal interval in this way not only foregrounds the filmic mechanism, but it in effect stages the cinematic apparatus, displaying it at a medial remove as a spectacular site of difference. In other words, cinema itself becomes refracted through these hybrid media combinations, which paradoxically facilitate a renewed encounter with cinema by reawakening a sensuous attachment to it at the very instant that it appears to be under threat. This particular response to developments in digital technologies suggests how we might more generally conceive of cinema finding itself anew in the contemporary media landscape. The advent of digital media and the perceived danger it has implied for the status of cinema have resulted in an inevitable nostalgia for the unique properties of the latter. In many Japanese films at the digital turn this manifests itself as a staging of the cinematic apparatus, in 1 which cinema is refracted through composite media arrangements. -

N.14 (2018) https://doi.org/10.6092/issn.2280-9481/8388 ISSN 2280-9481 The Construction of the Post-socialist Urban Identity: China’s Reform and Drifting Urban Population Huimin Deng Submitted: July 3, 2018 – Revised version: October 22, 2018 Accepted: November 6, 2018 – Published: December 31, 2018 Abstract In the transition from the socialist system to the postsocialist system since 1978, thousands of Chinese urban- to-rural migrant workers and students of socialist movements and urban laid-off workers of socialist state- owned enterprises were no longer safeguarded by Chinese government in terms of political status, job oppor- tunities, welfare, and living standard. Struggling for returning to cities and integrating into the competitory market economy become the living dilemma of the two urban groups respectively. This paper explores the images of those troubled urban figures within both the Chinese Sixth Generation cinema and the Chi- nese independent documentary. It aims at exposing Chinese urban people’s drifting experience within the postsocialist social context in relation to Chinese modern cinema. The spatial and ideological drifting of troubled urban people in postsocialist China, it shall argue, derives from the transition from the socialist class struggle to the postsocialist economy-oriented reform and from the socialist planned economy to the postsocialist market economy.
