Nestled at the base of Strawberry Canyon, the fi eld sits high above the Berkeley campus overlooking the San Francisco Bay Area. The fi eld was built in 1995, and the outfi eld fences stand 190 feet down the right and left fi eld lines. It is 220 feet to straight-away center. PARKING Public parking for Cal softball games is available for a fee throughout the Cal campus. The Witter Lot is recommended, as well as the Underhill Lot, Botanical Garden Lot and Lawrence Hall of Science Lot. After recording just 44 victories in their fi rst three years of existence, the Bruins went Western Regionals (Elk Grove, Calif.) 31-3 in 1978, starting and fi nishing the season strong with victories in 14 of their fi rst 15 and 17 of their last 18. During the regular season, May 4 beat Nevada, 1-0 (9 inn.) UCLA posted a 22-2 record, outscoring its opponents 101-17. In her last season in her #6 UCLA uniform, future Hall-of-Fame coach Sue Enquist led the Bruins in hitting with a .391 batting average. The May 4 beat Sacramento State, 1-0 (12 inn.) All-American also fi nished fi rst on the squad with seven doubles and tied for the team lead with two home runs. Sophomore Kathy Maurice, an May 5 beat Chico State, 1-0 All-Region honoree, added seven triples and also belted two home runs.

    CALIFORNIA Golden Bears GOLDEN BEAR OLYMPIANS GOLDEN BEARS GO INTERNATIONAL Lindsay James Chloe Kloezeman ince softball’s inception as an Olympic sport in 1996, a Golden Bear player or coach has participated in each Olympiad. Cal players have also competed for Svarious national teams during non-Olympic years. Michele Granger (USA), Gillian Boxx (USA) and Lisa Martinez (Puerto Rico) appeared in the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta. In addition, former Cal assistant coach Kim Maher, a standout at Fresno State, played for the United States as well that summer. In 2004 Olympics in Athens, head coach Diane Ninemire, along with Lindsay James and Chloe Kloezeman, suited up for the inaugural Greek national team, while Nicole DiSalvio returned for a second Nicole DiSalvio stint with Italian national team.
