The team was on the road in Akron, Ohio last weekend facing the Racers for the second time this season resulting in a sweep. On the road at Akron, 2013 3-1 Michelle Gascoigne opened the series tossing a complete game leading to the Bandits 7-3 vic- 2012 9-7 tory. Veteran Nikki Nemitz started the second game which was suspended due to poor 2011 7-1 weather. The final day of the series featured a double header with outstanding pitching by At Home 7-5 Monica Abbott who totaled 19 strikeouts in 10.0 innings giving her a win and a save. Andi On Road 12-4 Williamson tossed two strikeouts in 4.0 innings recording her third win on the road. Megan 2013 Results: Wiggins maintained her standings by recording another homerun and two additional RBIs last weekend. Veteran Vicky Galindo was a standout hitter this weekend launching back-to- Date Site Score back homeruns and a double. Nerissa Myers slugged her first professional homerun at the 6/14 NY W, 5-0 Racers. NY/NJ COMETS PAGE 2 #1 MEL DUMEZICH RHP, 1-1, 0.54 ERA Rookie pitcher, Mel Dumezich makes her third start tonight. She holds an even record this season with a total of 13 strikeouts. In her first start, she faced the Racers in a 5-0 shutout with a mere five hits allowed. Dumezich logged her second start falling to the Pride recording four strikeouts. As relief pitcher, she tossed two additional strikeouts to reach her current total. In her 13 innings in the circle, Dumezich has allowed nine hits with only one earned run. Last weekend at the Racers, she entered the game as relief for Williamson facing one batter. In the Bandits’ opening series with the Racers, Gascoigne tossed 1.2 innings allowing a strikeout and hit each. In her first start of the season facing the Comets, she threw six strikeouts, allowed four earned runs and secured the victory. She pitched four innings in relief since her start and rec- orded five strikeouts in the second game against the Comets. Williamson logged her first professional victory over the Racers on the opening night on June 5 tossing 7.0 com- plete innings that night recording three strikeouts allowing a mere one earned run. Williamson started at the Comets on June 15 picking up the no decision. Additionally, she started against the Pride on June 22 with seven strikeouts finishing 5.0 innings and at the Racers in 4.0 innings with two strikeouts upping her total to 15. After recording just 44 victories in their fi rst three years of existence, the Bruins went Western Regionals (Elk Grove, Calif.) 31-3 in 1978, starting and fi nishing the season strong with victories in 14 of their fi rst 15 and 17 of their last 18. During the regular season, May 4 beat Nevada, 1-0 (9 inn.) UCLA posted a 22-2 record, outscoring its opponents 101-17. In her last season in her #6 UCLA uniform, future Hall-of-Fame coach Sue Enquist led the Bruins in hitting with a .391 batting average. The May 4 beat Sacramento State, 1-0 (12 inn.) All-American also fi nished fi rst on the squad with seven doubles and tied for the team lead with two home runs.
