INTRODUCTION Ce document présente une liste des punaises trouvées dans le territoire du Québec et ses régions adjacentes. Elle résulte d’une revue de la littérature entomologique, d’un inventaire de collections appartenant à des organismes publics et à des entomologistes et d’une recherche sur internet. Provancher fut le premier à publier, de 1885 à 1890, un ouvrage d’identification des punaises pour le Canada, mais il donne très peu d’information sur la répartition des espèces. Uhler (1917) cite 163 espèces pour la province et 286 autres dans les régions adjacentes. Fournier (1950) mentionne que Moore (1950) catalogua 560 espèces et variétées. Hutchinson (1979), en se basant seulement sur la littérature entomologique, produisit une liste préliminaire de 101 punaises aquatiques et subaquatiques du Québec, mais cette liste comporte de nombreuses erreurs. Larochelle (1984) publia un important ouvrage d’identification sur les punaises terrestres du Québec, rapportant 488 espèces; en outre, il annexe une liste de 283 espèces et sous-espèces pouvant se rencontrer dans la province. -

Chapter 2 defines eight mimicry complexes involving ithomiines and other insects found in eastern Ecuador. These complexes are dominated by ithomiine individuals. Hypotheses to explain polymorphism in Batesian and Mullerian mimics are assessed. In Chapter 3, evidence that sympatric ithomiine-dominated mimicry complexes are segregated by microhabitat is reviewed. Data confirm that sympatric complexes are segregated vertically by flight height. Flight height is shown to be positively correlated with larval host-plant height. Host-plant partitioning between species in a butterfly community results in the formation of microhabitat guilds of species, and evidence suggests that mimicry may evolve between species which share a guild, but not between guilds. Models for the evolution of mimicry complexes in sympatry, and for polymorphism and dual sex-limited mimicry in Mullerian mimics, are discussed in the light of these findings. Chapter 4 investigates relationships between species richness offamilies and subfamilies ofNeotropical butterflies and overall butterfly species richness at local and regional scales. A strong positive correlation is demonstrated between ithomiine richness and the species richness of all other butterflies. -

Antwi ABSTRACT Geographic isolation plays a major role in population divergence, but host-plants can also generate selective forces that drive genetic differentiation. Host-plant associations of insects can also be mediated by their associations with microorganisms, some of which are linked to pest status on crops. However, the ecological and evolutionary roles these microorganisms play in plant-insect interactions are not fully understood, neither are their implications for pest management. My dissertation applied an interdisciplinary approach to explore the potential role of microorganisms in plant-insect interactions. Two important agricultural pests, cotton fleahopper (CFH) (Pseudatomoscelis seriatus), a cotton pest, and sugarcane aphid (Melanaphis sacchari), an invasive pest of sorghum, were used as model organisms in my studies. Using amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs) I sampled CFH from 12 host-plants. I found that CFH genotypes are distinct on only 2 out of 12 uncultivated plant species. My results suggest that several uncultivated hosts likely constitute a source of CFH for cotton. To determine whether bacterial symbionts correlated with genetic variation in CFH host-association, I compared bacterial communities within CFH using 454 pyrosequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. -

It includes all new species described, tropical species with new records in the United States, and species introduced from Europe and Asia since 1983. The Notes section provides the seminal citations, data and/or commentary to all changes since 1983 for easy and future reference. In addition, this list proposes seven new generic combinations, the transfer of a phycitine species, Salebria nigricans (Hulst), to Epipaschiinae and its syn. n. with Pococera fuscolotella (Ragonot), and three new records for the United States. Purposefully, no new taxa are described here, but we found a gradual increase of 10% in the number of species described since 1983. -

A new species belonging to the genus Proxylastodoris Heiss & Popov, 2002, P. kuscheli spec. nov., of the subfamily Xylastodorinae Barber, 1920 (Heteroptera: Thaumastocoridae) is described from New Cal- edonia. It is the first recent record outside the western Hemisphere of the Xyalstodorinae and is the largest known member of the family Thaumastocoridae. The new species was collected on inflores- cences of the native New Caledonian palm species Burretiokentia vieillardii (Brongn. & Gris) Pichi- Serm. The habitat, collecting methods, host plant and biology of the new species are described. The biogeography of the Thaumastocoridae and Xylastodorinae is discussed and suggestions for further research are proposed. This discovery is characterised as the discovery of a living fossil as the new species is assigned to the genus Proxylastodoris, previously a monotypic genus described from Baltic amber. -

Zoosystematica Rossica, 16(2): 225-234. Eighteen species of Nabidae are recorded from the West Indies. Alloeorhynchus slateri sp. n. (Jamaica), A. jamaicensis sp. n. (Jamaica), A. maldonadoi sp. n. (Puerto Rico) and Pagasa cobbeni sp. n. (Curaçao) are described. Arachnocoris karukerae Lopez, 1990 is placed in synonymy with A. berytoides (Uhler, 1894). I.M.
