Although there are many algorithms and theories, it is still challenging to solve the leading eigenvalue problem of extreme high dimension. Full configuration interaction (FCI) problem in quantum chemistry is such a problem. This thesis tries to understand some existing algorithms of FCI problem and propose new efficient algorithms for the high-dimensional eigenvalue problem. In more details, we first es- tablish a general framework of inexact power iteration and establish the convergence theorem of full configuration interaction quantum Monte Carlo (FCIQMC) and fast randomized iteration (FRI). Second, we reformulate the leading eigenvalue problem as an optimization problem, then compare the show the convergence of several coor- dinate descent methods (CDM) to solve the leading eigenvalue problem. Third, we propose a new efficient algorithm named Coordinate descent FCI (CDFCI) based on coordinate descent methods to solve the FCI problem, which produces some state-of- the-art results.

    Setting Speed Limits: Public Input Summary, December 2019 I. Background Between May 2018 and June 2019, staff and the community actively developed the Vision Zero Action Plan. A part of the plan identified two speed-related strategies utilizing the safe systems approach that focuses on all types of road users including bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists. The safe systems approach acknowledges that people will make mistakes and seeks to design a system that allows for these mistakes, rather than expecting perfect driving behavior, to minimize death and injury. The city hosted public meetings and opened an online forum to gather public input on lowering speed limits in the city. II. Outreach Four public meetings were held on Saturday, November 16 (16 attendees), Thursday, November 21 (14 attendees), Thursday, December 11, 2019 (34 attendees) and Saturday, December 14 (41 attendees).     BY ALL MEMES NECESSARY: HIP HOP, MEMES, AND THE INTERNET MAX TRETTER FRIEDRICH-ALEXANDER-UNIVERSITY ERLANGEN-NUREMBERG INTRODUCTION: HIP HOP ON THE INTERNET The internet influences hip hop in various ways. First and foremost, the internet is a medium that opens up a new space and stage in which hip hop can be performed. This stage is no longer local, but global, which represents both opportunity and challenge. On the one hand, each hip hop artist must assert themselves against countless compet- itors from all over the world; on the other hand, their breakthrough online, if it suc- ceeds, can be monumental in comparison to an analog breakthrough, which is usually confined to a limited area. Therefore, for hip hop artists it is increasingly important to attract attention – as only those who get the attention succeed in this new medium (Prior 2018, Jenkins et al. 2013). The internet’s central influence on hip hop is the inten- sification of the battle for attention – which results in hip hop artists trying new ap- proaches and strategies to gain that attention. One of them is producing their content with an eye to making it as meme-able as possible and capitalizing on meme dynamics on the internet. In this study, I approach memes as a concept, following the definition of Dawkins (2006) who originally defined the concept of memes in his work The Selfish Gene. Memes are small units of information that are usually very simple and catchy (ges- tures, styles, melodies, or phrases). They are transmitted from person to person by imitation or adaption, replicate and spread very quickly, and contribute to the dissem- ination and formation of common behaviors and cultures (Dawkins 2006).

FREYERMUTH 2010 Abstract Nina Simone was a prominent jazz musician of the late 1950s and 60s. Beyond her fame as a jazz musician, Nina Simone reached even greater status as a civil rights activist. Her music spoke to the hearts of hundreds of thousands in the black community who were struggling to rise above their status as a second-class citizen. Simone’s powerful anthems were a reminder that change was going to come. Nina Simone’s musical interpretation and approach was very unique because of her background as a classical pianist. Nina’s untrained vocal chops were a perfect blend of rough growl and smooth straight-tone, which provided an unquestionable feeling of heartache to the songs in her repertoire. Simone also had a knack for word painting, and the emotional climax in her songs is absolutely stunning. Nina Simone did not have a typical jazz style. Critics often described her as a “jazz-and-something-else-singer.” She moved effortlessly through genres, including gospel, blues, jazz, folk, classical, and even European classical. Probably her biggest mark, however, was on the genre of protest songs. Simone was one of the most outspoken and influential musicians throughout the civil rights movement. Her music spoke to the hundreds of thousands of African American men and women fighting for their rights during the 1960s.
