The areas covered by Commissariot Courts pre 1800 in Scotland relate to Church jurisdiction and not county borders so more than one Court can cover a County. The Commissariot Court of Edinburgh had jurisdiction for the whole of Scotland and abroad and should also be checked. These Testaments are for personal property only. The Library has a complete set of Indexes for pre 1800 Commissariot Court Wills. The Commissariot of Edinburgh was the main court and covers all of Scotland and Overseas as well as the local area and should always be checked.     A Guide to the History and Culture of Kinross-shire through the Archive Perth & Kinross Council Archive 1 Foreword I am delighted that the Friends of the Archive are now able to publish the second of their planned area booklets, this time about Kinross-shire. Like the rest of Perth and Kinross the history of Kinross-shire, and the former Burgh of Kinross, is fascinating in many different ways. I hope this new booklet will allow everyone who is interested, be they residents of Kinross-shire or not, to explore that history in meaningful ways. In the booklet you will find a comprehensive overview of the huge range of collections relevant to this topic including history, genealogy, industry, settlements, estates and anything else you may be interested in. Some of the material is ‘official’, like local authority documents, police and justice of the peace records. However, there is also guidance on exploring community-based collections put together by local people who were determined their ‘story’ would live on and be accessible to anyone who was interested. Personally I am much taken by the selection of illustrations of all aspects of life in Kinross-shire. These are, of course, merely a glimpse of the rich and varied sources which exist and can be explored with the help of the staff of the Archive. On page 6 there is a brief but comprehensive description of the types of records which are available and how they can be used to facilitate information searches of all kinds. If anyone is looking for particular information I would encourage them to read this section first.

A l t h o u g h not a Dollar man, Dr Haig Ferguson is by birth and early years a near neighbour, and by relationship is closely connected with Dollar; and the whole district of the Devon Valley is deeply interested in and proud of the very eminent position to which he has attained in the medical profession. The only son of the late Rev. William Ferguson and Elizabeth, sister of the late W. J. Haig of Dollarfield, he was born at the Parish Church Manse of Crook of Devon in 1862, and spent the early part of his life in that, now, favourite summer resort. We are indebted to Rev. J. F. Cameron for some particulars regarding Rev. William Ferguson which, in their bearing upon the chance of the subject of this memoir ever having come into existence, seem not out of place at this stage, and, as matter of local history, will, we think, be of interest to our readers. At the Disruption of the Established Church of Scotland in 1843 the Rev. Mr Noble, minister of the Quoad Sacra Parish Church of Blairingone, “ came out,” followed by his congregation. They thought to retain the use of the church, but this was successfully resisted, the building being held for the Established Church.
