Welcome to the 31st Annual All-Star Classic. The WBCA is proud to sponsor this tournament, to promote baseball throughout out the Badger State, and to be recognized as one of the strongest Coaching Associations in America.

The first All-Star Classic took place in Appleton in 1984, with Milwaukee Tech’s Tom Konowalski chairing the Committee. Representing the West was Cumberland’s Mark Fuller, who is the only original remaining member of that Committee, along with Xavier’s Tom Nygaard and Art Westphal from Waterloo. Today, Oshkosh West’s Tony Gerharz chairs the Committee, with Fuller as the West’s representative, Potosi’s Ron Kading representing the South, Waukesha West’s Chad Montez representing the East Team, and our newest member, Eric Beard from Wrightstown, representing the North.

Joe Waite, from Cumberland, designs, coordinates, and writes this program by himself and gets it ready for publication on a very tight deadline.

The WBCA is proud of our commitment to baseball and our young men who play our game. Enjoy your weekend, and be assured that you are representing the best of the best! His involvement with the program actually started long before that, he had been team manager since 6th grade.

He has developed into a what Davey calls a consistent and often dominant contributor for the Demons. He was named 1st Team All-Conference as a sophomore and a junior after being named to the 2nd Team as a frehsmen.

“Cole is the epitome of what any coach would want in a ballplayer,” Davey said. “It seems if he has been with me for such a long period of time that next year will be difficult not having him around. Seeing him develop from that little 6th grade team manager to the young man he has become, has been a true pleasure for me.”

Horicon head coach Graig Stone has great respect for Erickson and has witnessed first hand the damage Erikcson can do with both a ball and a bat in his hands. “Last season, Cole easily was one of the best players in the conference,” he said. “On the mound, he gave up only three earned runs over 11 innings in our two outings against him. Offensively, he was a big run producer for Deerfield and you had to be aware of him in the batting order. With him in their lineup, they have to feel confident that they can contend for another conference title.”

Johnson Creek head coach Mike Flood agrees. “He’s a very talented baseball player. I would see his future as a pitcher. He throws hard and always is around the strike zone. I love it when my team faces him because he is one of the best we face.”

Erickson is a three sport athlete. In addition to being a stalwart on the baseball team, he was named 1st Team All-Conference at quarterback, linebacker and football this past fall and was 1st Team All-Conference at wide receiver his junior year. He has also been a two year starter for the Demon basketball team this year. 75 WEST Cumberland Cumberland Barron Turtle Lake

Tom Armstrong, Jr. (Chequamegon)

Armstrong inherited the head coaching job with Park Falls, later renamed Chequamegon, with the sudden and tragic loss of his father, Hall of Fame coach Tom, Sr. who died two weeks before the 2000 season started. Since that time, he has accumulated a very impressive career record of 260-92, which includes seven Conference Championships, 10 Regional Championships, two Sectional Championships, and two State Runner-Ups. He also coached in the Classic in 2005.

Nick Kalina (La Crosse Central) Kalina, a 1998 graduate of Potosi, played for legendary coach Ron Kading and played in the Classic that summer. He graduated from UW-Stout in 2001.

In five seasons as the head coach of the Red Raiders, he has compiled a career record of 86-40 and has two Missiissippi Valley Conference Championships.

Greg Meinertz (La Crosse Logan) Meinertz took over for longtime coach Terry Curtis three years ago at La Crosse Logan High School. During those three seasons, he has compiled a record of 34-35. He led the Rangers to a Regional Championship in 2013.

Meinertz, in addition to Kalina, Johnson, and Kloes, played in the Classic as as a player, making a record four coaches who have both coached and played in this great event. He represented La Crosse Central High School in 2001.
