Ostatní zdroje 84 Základní text této diplomové práce (včetně poznámek pod čarou, ale bez obsahu, rejstříku, seznamu literatury a příloh) obsahuje 144 159 znaků. 3 1 - Úvod Počáteční období ve zkoumání politických vztahů bylo zaměřeno na stát, jenž byl rámcově považován za hlavní, či základní jednotku výzkumu, neboť se státu podařilo dosáhnout úspěšné monopolizace prostředků vládnutí, jejichž legitimizováním se stát stal základní jednotkou, v níž politický boj probíhal nenásilnou formou. Zatímco uvnitř států byly legitimní pouze nenásilné formy politického boje, v mezinárodním měřítku zůstávala možnost politického boje formou otevřeného násilného konfliktu, opětovně se státy jakožto základními jednotkami. V počátečním období politologického výzkumu byl tento zaměřen na strukturu moci v rámci státu, postupně byl rozšiřován též na výzkum a vývoj politických stran, čili na její dynamiku. Ve druhé polovině dvacátého století bylo výlučné postavení státu v politologickém výzkumu zpochybněno, především z důvodu existence mnoha mezinárodních institucí, dohod, režimů a norem, jež působily výraznou změnu v dosavadním výkonu vládnutí. V rámci změněného mezinárodního politického prostoru docházelo od šedesátých a sedmdesátých let minulého století se střetu států s celou škálou nestátních aktérů, jimiž byly 1 mezinárodní korporace, mezinárodní nevládní organizace, sociální hnutí atd. Vznik nových sociálních hnutí v sedmdesátých a osmdesátých letech 20. století bývá spojován s rozvojem postindustriální společnosti, jejíž celospolečenská proměna se odráží v posunu k postmaterialistickým hodnotám a posilování postmaterialistické orientace ve společnosti. Nová sociální hnutí se dle Neveua od takzvaných „starých“ liší ve čtyřech dimenzích. První z nich, spjatá s formami organizace a jednání, spočívá v nedůvěře v centralizaci, delegaci autority a v byrokratický aparát. Druhá dimenze odlišnosti je v rozdílnosti hodnot a cílů, kdy na rozdíl od klasických sociálních hnutí, zaměřených na redistribuci bohatství a přístup k centrům rozhodování, nová hnutí kladou důraz na bezprostřední odpor ve sférách každodenního styku, v nichž se realizuje sociální kontrola, což ztěžuje dosavadní prizma politického 1 Císař, O. 2004a:13-15. 4 jednání, neboť jde často o požadavky jež nesnesou kompromisu. Třetím rozdílem je vyjadřován vztah k politické sféře, kdy novým hnutím nejde o vstup do politického systému a dosažení podílu na státní moci, nýbrž o vytvoření prostorů autonomie nezávislé na státu a trhu. Posledním čtvrtým rozdílem pak je posun v povaze identity aktérů, přičemž hnutí industriální společnosti se opírala o třídní či socioprofesní identitu, zatímco hnutí nová odkazují k jiným, 2 povětšinou kulturním či světonázorovým identitám. Koncem 20. století dochází ke značnému zvýšení pozornosti vůči nestátním aktérům ve světové politice, což souviselo jednak se zvýšeným zájmem o téma ekonomické a kulturní globalizace a jejím dopadu na politické 3 jednání původně národních politických aktérů. Dalšími faktory, které podporovaly do té doby nebývalý rozvoj mezinárodních sociálních hnutí, bylo ukončení studené války, jež umožnilo vstup zmíněných sociálních hnutí z dosavadního převážně západoevropsko-severoamerického prostoru nejen do střední a východní Evropy, ale prakticky na všechny kontinenty, a rozvoj nových komunikačních technologií, jež podstatně usnadnily komunikaci jak mezi jednotlivými částmi hnutí, tak i mezi hnutími či mezinárodními institucemi navzájem. Vzhledem k nebývalému rozvoji nevládních organizací dokonce 4 někteří badatelé hovoří o globální občanské společnosti. Tato práce se zaměřuje na sociální hnutí, které vzniklo počátkem sedmdesátých let v Kanadě a které se postupně internacionalizovalo, takže v současnosti jde o hnutí, zasahující svými aktivitami celý svět. Jde o hnutí Greenpeace, jež působí v oblasti ochrany životního prostředí, s nímž jsou spjaty veškeré jeho aktivity, takže jej lze bez problémů identifikovat jakožto jednoho z aktérů pohybujícího se v environmentálním sektoru politické diskuse. První část práce je zaměřena na obeznámení se s agendou, historií a strukturou mezinárodního hnutí Greenpeace International. Pakliže by se 2 Barša, P., Císař, O. 2004: 103-105. Císař, O. 2005: 93. 5 zmíněná první část, věnovaná hnutí Greenpeace International, mohla vzhledem k názvu práce jevit jako nadbytečná či příliš obsáhlá, byla autorem do práce zařazena v daném rozsahu záměrně ze dvou důvodů. Prvním důvodem je fakt, že práce se věnuje dvěma národním pobočkám stejného mezinárodního hnutí, tudíž lze předpokládat, že vzhledem k současné praxi přejímání know-how v rámci organizace by některé pasáže zařazené v částech týkajících se národních poboček byly téměř doslovné, a tudíž by došlo k jejich opakování, takže byla zvolena metoda deskripce mateřské organizace hnutí, na něž jednotlivé další kapitoly navazují. Dalším důvodem je pak fakt, že pouhá deskripce dvou národních poboček hnutí a jejich následná komparace bez předchozího obeznámení se s mezinárodním hnutím jako celkem jevila by se poněkud neúplná. Další část práce se věnuje české národní pobočce hnutí Greenpeace, totiž spolku Greenpeace Česká republika. Práce poté pokračuje popisem slovenské pobočky hnutí Greenpeace, občanského sdružení Greenpeace Slovensko, a v poslední části práce dochází k vzájemné komparaci obou národních poboček. 6 2 - Hnutí Greenpeace International Hnutí Greenpeace vzniklo již před více než 35 lety jako nezisková nevládní organizace, která si dala za úkol podílet se na záchraně a ochraně životního prostředí na Zemi. Z původní skupinky několika nadšenců se stala organizací působící ve více než 40 zemích světa, kterou podporují téměř tři miliony stoupenců. Hnutí Greenpeace se zaměřuje na globální problémy životního prostředí, při jejichž řešení se opírá o vědecký výzkum, lobbování a tichou diplomacii, informování a ovlivňování veřejnosti, ale též o vyvolávání konfliktních situací, přitahujících zájem médií, aby poukázalo a upozornilo na problémy společnost i vlády států, jimž se nedaří chránit životní prostředí, a aby v otevřené debatě poukázalo na možnosti řešení, které společnost v tomto směru dosud má. 2.1 - Agenda hnutí Greenpeace jakožto globální organizace soustřeďuje svoji pozornost převážně na skutečnosti, které nejvíce ohrožují biodiverzitu a životní prostředí naší planety. V současné době vyvíjí aktivitu v sedmi globálních kampaních, přičemž ovšem některé kampaně v případě potřeby lze dělit, popřípadě zaměřit pouze na jeden aspekt vážící se k některé z globálních kampaní, popřípadě v určitých případech existuje možnost, že jedna úzce zaměřená kampaň má přesah do dvou či více globálních kampaní. Globální kampaně prováděné hnutím Greenpeace jsou: Zastavení změn klimatu Podle Greenpeace je změna klimatu realitou, neboť náš svět je teplejší než kdykoli dříve. Klima je měněno využíváním fosilních paliv, jako je ropa, uhlí 5 a plyn, jejichž spalování uvolňuje plyny, jež v atmosféře způsobují globální oteplování. Devadesátá léta byla nejteplejším desetiletím v historii, nejteplejším rokem historie pak byl rok 1998. 5 Převážně kysličník uhličitý. 7 Plyny vypouštěné do ovzduší zapříčiňují tzv. skleníkový efekt, jehož následkem je neustále se zvyšující teplota. Vědecké odhady dle Greenpeace stanovují současnou koncentraci kysličníku uhličitého v ovzduší o třetinu vyšší než byla před průmyslovou revolucí a tvrdí, že i kdyby se všechny škodlivé plyny přestaly vypouštět do ovzduší, ty které tam již jsou tam také vydrží ještě několik staletí. Plyny zapříčiňující skleníkový efekt mají také další negativní účinek, jímž je úbytek vrstvy ozonu ve vyšších i nižších vrstvách atmosféry, chránícího Zemi před ultrafialovým zářením. Globální oteplování je příčinou rychlejšího tání ledovců, jež ve zvýšené míře způsobuje zvyšování mořské hladiny, která se za poslední století zvýšila desetkrát rychleji než je 2000letý průměr.

    “MAKE IT A GREEN PEACE”: THE HISTORY OF AN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION Frank Zelko Research Fellow, GHI In the early 1970s, the United States Congress’s House Subcommittee on Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation held a series of hearings on the sub- ject of marine mammal protection. Among those who testified were rep- resentatives of America’s oldest and most established wilderness protec- tion groups, such as the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society, and the National Wildlife Federation. Although it was important to ensure that the world’s populations of whales and seals remained as healthy as pos- sible, these organizations argued, they did not support a policy of abso- lute protection. As long as the survival of the species was ensured, they believed, it was legitimate to use its “surplus” members for the benefit of people. In his testimony before the subcommittee, Thomas Kimball of the National Wildlife Federation employed phrases such as “renewable re- sources,” “stewardship,” and “professional wildlife management.” The “harvesting of surplus wildlife populations,” his organization felt, wasan “important management tool if the continuing long-range well-being of an animal population is the ultimate objective.”1 A few years later, a group of environmental protesters off the coast of California came across a fleet of Soviet whaling boats. Using motorized inflatable dinghies, the activists positioned themselves between a whal- er’s harpoon and a fleeing pod of sperm whales, acting as human shields to protect the defenseless giants. Whaling, these activists insisted, was not merely an issue of wildlife preservation or resource stewardship. Rather, it was an unconscionable act of violence perpetrated against a species whose intelligence and sensitivity put them in the same biological cat- egory as human beings.

Ecotage uses direct action, or monkey wrenching, to prevent environmental destruction. Mainstream conservation efforts were viewed by many environmentalists as having failed from compromise inspiring the birth of radicalized groups. This eventually transformed conservationists into radicals. Green Peace inspired radical environmentalism by civil disobedience, media campaigns and direct action tactics, but remained mainstream. Earth First’s! philosophy is based on a no compromise approach.

    Patrick Moore: The Case of the "Greenpeace Co-Founder" and His Corporate Clients Prepared by Environmental Health Fund Research by Public Information Network February 2007 Patrick Moore is a Vancouver-based industry consultant who frequently publishes opinion pieces attacking the environmental movement and promoting nuclear power, toxic chemicals, logging and aquaculture. Articles by him or about him have been published in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Miami Herald, LA Times, Washington Times, National Post (Canada), Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, Mid-Hudson News (New York) and Ottawa Citizen, among others. Moore invariably identifies himself a Co-founder of Greenpeace and Chairman and Chief Scientist of Greenspirit Strategies Ltd. It is true that he was one of the early leaders of Greenpeace in Canada, though he exaggerates when he claims to be a co-founder (see Annex C). He left the group in 1986, and is scorned by his ex-colleagues. (see Annex A). What Moore does not reveal in his writings, but is evident on his website, is that he is a paid industry consultant, and has been for at least 15 years. Recently, Moore has made many false and unfortunate statements, including emphasizing the allegedly positive aspects of global warming, 1 incorrectly linking exploding laptops to Dell Computer's phase out of brominated flame retardants, 2 and saying nuclear plant workers in New York State have safer workplaces than bankers in New York City. 3 Moore is entitled to work and speak on behalf of companies and causes he believes in. The public, however, is likewise entitled to know who is paying him to express those opinions.

This thesis asks instead how TV influences what is in front of the camera. The dissertation investigates how TV reshapes other institutions as it broadcasts their activities, using four ethnographic studies of televised crime and policing. These studies examine: 1) the reality-TV show "Cops"; 2) the televising of surveillance footage and home video of crime and policing: 3) television and Vancouver's Stanley Cup riot; 4) the law-breaking television stunts of Greenpeace.
