Introduction to FTTx Outside Plant Design Thursday, October 3 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Room 16

It can be difficult to find information on the most economical locations to place FTTx network elements in the field. This “Introduction to FTTx Outside Plant Design” course introduces FTTx network field configurations, design benchmarks, and installation parameters for high-rise buildings, campus style apartments, single- family urban residential areas, and rural areas. For attendees new to FTTH, the session will start with the basics of PON and P2P FTTH systems and then expand to cover key points in an OSP design.

Content includes how OSP designs must address how customer take rate and density determine splitter location when using distributed splitting, centralized splitter cabinets, and home runs. Steps for completing each design strategy are introduced alongside illustrated examples in order to help the attendee differentiate design options and strategy to determine which is most economical to deploy in each circumstance.
