This study aims to determine the types of insects Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Odonata, Orthoptera and Lepidoptera in the Boyong River, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, to develop the Encyclopedia of the Boyong River Insect and to determine the quality of the encyclopedia developed. The method used in the research inventory of the types of insects Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Odonata, Orthoptera and Lepidoptera insects in the Boyong River survey method with the results of the study found 46 species of insects consisting of 2 Coleoptera Orders, 2 Hemiptera Orders, 18 orders of Lepidoptera in Boyong River survey method with the results of the research found 46 species of insects consisting of 2 Coleoptera Orders, 2 Hemiptera Orders, 18 orders of Lepidoptera in Boyong River survey method. odonata, 4 Orthopterous Orders and 20 Lepidopterous Orders from 15 families. The encyclopedia that was developed was created using the Adobe Indesig application which was developed in printed form. Testing the quality of the encyclopedia uses a checklist questionnaire and the results of the percentage of ideals from material experts are 91.1% with very good categories, 91.7% of media experts with very good categories, peer reviewers 92.27% with very good categories, biology teachers 88, 53% with a very good category and students 89.8% with a very good category. -

New Orthoptera Records for Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick John Klymko, Robert W
J. Acad. Entomol. Soc. 17: 16-19 (2021) NOTE New Orthoptera records for Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick John Klymko, Robert W. Harding, Barry Cottam A checklist of the Orthoptera of the three Maritime provinces was published by Klymko et al. (2018). Even while it was in press, the Spring Field Cricket (Gryllus veletis) was added to the collective list (Lewis et al. 2019), and discoveries continue to be made. Here we present the first Prince Edward Island records of the Treetop Bush Katydid (Scudderia fasciata), the Roesel’s Shield-backed Katydid (Roeseliana roeselii), and the Sphagnum Ground Cricket (Neonemobius palustris) and the first New Brunswick records of the Drumming Katydid Meconema( thalassinum). Also presented are recent data for the occurrence of the Wingless Mountain Grasshopper (Booneacris glacialis) on Prince Edward Island, a species otherwise known only from historical records on the Island. Specimens reported here have been deposited in the collection of the New Brunswick Museum, and museum accession numbers are given for all specimens (e.g., NBM-070089). Accepted 16 December, 2011 Acridoidea is a superfamily within the Orthoptera order that comprises a group of short-horned insects commonly called grasshoppers. Grasshopper and locust species are major pests of grasslands and crops in all continents except Antarctica. Economically and historically, locusts and grasshoppers are two of the most destructive agricultural pests. The most important locust species belong to the genus Schistocerca and populate America, Africa, and Asia. Some grasshoppers considered to be important pests are the Melanoplus species, Camnula pellucida in North America, Brachystola magna and Sphenarium purpurascens in northern and central Mexico, and Oedaleus senegalensis and Zonocerus variegatus in Africa. Previous studies have classified these species based on specific characteristics. This review includes six headings. The first discusses the main species of grasshoppers and locusts; the second focuses on their worldwide distribution; the third describes their biology and life cycle; the fourth refers to climatic factors that facilitate the development of grasshoppers and locusts; the fifth discusses the action or reaction of grasshoppers and locusts to external or internal stimuli and the sixth refers to elements to design management strategies with emphasis on prevention. -

Plangia graminea (Serville) (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) is considered a minor sporadic pest in vineyards of the Western Cape Province, South Africa, and was the focus of this study. In the past few seasons (since 2012) P. graminea appeared to have caused a substantial amount of damage leading to great concern among the wine farmers of the Western Cape Province. Very little was known about the biology and ecology of this species, and no monitoring method was available for this pest. The overall aim of the present study was, therefore, to investigate the biology and ecology of P. graminea in vineyards of the Western Cape to contribute knowledge towards the formulation of a sustainable integrated pest management program, as well as to establish an appropriate monitoring system. -

This includes the use of pathogens such as the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae var. acridum Driver & Milner and the microsporidia Paranosema locustae Canning but also natural grasshopper populations regulating agents like birds and other natural enemies. In the present study which has focused on the use of P. locustae and M. anisopliae var. acridum to control locusts and grasshoppers our objectives were to, (i) evaluate the potential of P. locustae as locust and grasshopper control agent, and (ii) investigate the combined effects of P. locustae and M. anisopliae as an option to enhance the efficacy of both pathogens to control the pests. -

For the first time we describe the morphology, histology and ultrastructure of the reproductive system in both morphs of the sexual generation of aphids within one species, using light and fluorescent microscopy, as well as transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The results revealed that males have testes composed of three follicles fused by the upper ends of the vasa efferentia, the vasa deferentia run independently, the accessory glands are asymmetric and the ejaculatory duct shortened. Oviparous females have ovaries composed of seven ovarioles each. The lateral oviducts join to a short common oviduct connected with the unpaired spermatheca and paired accessory glands. Yolky eggs with an aggregation of symbiotic bacteria at the posterior pole are produced.
