Friends of Al-Aqsa (FOA) Established in 1997 by Ismail Patel,231 FOA is a UK-based, non-profit NGO, claiming to champion Palestinian human rights and safeguard the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. It also seeks to force the British government to apply pressure on Israel and raise awareness about Palestinian rights.232 Importantly, Patel has denied that Hamas is a terror organization, despite being designated as such by the UK.233 Instead, he “salute[s] Hamas for standing up to Israel.”234 Patel also joined the "Gaza Freedom Flotilla" in 2010.235 FOA has also jointly organized campaigns and events with other anti-Israel organizations. For example, Palestine Solidarity Campaign and FOA ran the "Stop Arming Israel" campaign,236 organized the “Stop the massacre – emergency protest” in relation to the border riots in Gaza,237 and campaigned to ban the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest from being hosted in Israel.238
