PNIF was founded by Yasser Arafat and is comprised of five US-designated terrorist organizations3 including: Hamas, The Popular Front For The Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), The Popular Front – General Command (PFLP- GC), the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).4 In addition, members of PNIF include Khalid al-Batsh, senior member of the PIJ,5 and Jamil Mezher, a member of the political bureau of the PFLP.6 Haidar Eid, a BNC representative,7 made it clear that Hamas and other Islamic movements were represented on the BNC.8 Palestinian Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) The Palestinian Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), founded in 2004 by Palestinian academics and intellectuals,9 serves as a co-leader of the BDS Movement, leading the academic and cultural boycott, alongside the Boycott National Committee (BNC) political leadership.10 The two organizations share resources such as the same 1 BDS Movement, Palestinian BDS National Committee, accessed 01/19 2 See the original members: BDS Movement, BNC statements, published 09/08, accessed 01/19 and the members today: BDS Movement, Palestinian BDS National Committee, accessed 01/19. In addition to leading numerous boycott campaign efforts against Israel around the globe,14 in more recent years PACBI has been at the forefront of pressuring international artists, chefs, and musicians to avoid performing in Israel15 claiming that appearing in Israel lends legitimacy to what they describe as Israel’s mistreatment of Palestinians.16 In addition, several PACBI leaders have supported terror organizations and terrorists. For example, Haidar Eid, a PACBI steering committee member17 participated in a joint interview with Jamil Mezher, a PFLP political leader,18 about the Israel-Palestine negotiations19 and gave a lecture about the BDS movement at the PFLP headquarters in Gaza.20 He also praised Islamic Jihad leader Khader Adnan21 and lauded him as a “hero.”22 Zaid Shuaibi and then activist-turned-terrorist Basel Al-Araj23 participated in a protest in Ramallah together24 and later wrote an op-ed together.25 11 BDS Movement, Home, accessed 08/20 12 Both organizations use the email address: [email protected] See: Google Groups, PACBI, published 02/19/17; Google groups, BNC email, accessed 02/19 13 For example, Omar Barghouti is a co-founder of both PACBI and the BNC: PACBI, Who We Are, accessed 01/19; BDS Movement, BDS worldwide spread creates Israeli government panic, published 02/17/14, accessed 12/18; BNC, Report on: The Fourth National BDS Conference, published 06/08/13, Bethlehem, accessed 11/18; Haidar Eid also holds positions in both: PACBI, Who We Are, accessed 01/19; Other examples include Rafeef Ziadah, who is both a PACBI member and a BNC secretariat member as well as Zaid Shuaibi who has held the position of PACBI coordinator and BNC coordinator at various times.
