The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command
THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION SASKATCHEWAN COMMAND COMMEMORATIVE HISTORY BOOK A Collection of Memories, Activities and Community Commitment from our Branches and Members throughout the Province! The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command President’s Message It is with considerable pleasure that I extend best wishes and sincere thanks on behalf of the members, Ladies’ Auxiliary and staff of The Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Command to those that assisted with the production of this Commemorative Book. It is most fitting that this book that outlines the proud history of The Royal Canadian Legion in Saskatchewan should be produced in this, the 80th anniversary of the formation of The Royal Canadian Legion. What better way to preserve the elements of the sacrifices that were made on behalf of all of us by those brave men and women who rose to the task of defending freedom and purchasing the values that we all hold dear. These values -Remembrance, Service, Comradeship and Traditions - are the very things that have held The Royal Canadian Legion together throughout its magnificent history. As in any production of this type, there are countless volunteers who have taken the time and made the effort to ensure that their branch histories are included, which all together make this organization stand proud of what it has accomplished - whether it be in the small rural communities or in the larger urban centres - and this book will serve as a lasting tribute to all Veterans who accepted the challenge in the service of their sovereign and country. With this Commemorative Book, we can ensure that The Legion's story will be remembered in a most appropriate style and manner, and our thanks go out to Fenety Marketing Services for producing such a worthwhile document for our Command. -

Updated List of 67 Signatories As of September 5, 2018 May 7, 2018
Updated list of 67 signatories as of September 5, 2018 May 7, 2018 Jagmeet Singh Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada 300 - 279 Laurier West Ottawa, Ontario K1P 5J9 Dear Mr. Singh, As former New Democrat Saskatchewan Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislature (MLAs), we are writing to you to express our serious concerns about the way you and your office have treated Saskatchewan New Democrat MP, Erin Weir. We believe that your decision to expel Weir from the federal NDP caucus is a serious mistake and has ramifications for the party not only here in Saskatchewan but across the country. We want to reCap the understanding of the situation and will do so in point form: 1. Erin Weir wished to put his name forward to serve as caucus chair and sent an email to his caucus colleagues. 2. MP Christine Moore responded with an email sent January 30, 2018, to all colleagues that alleged that Weir had engaged in harassing behaviour towards women, inCluding party staff members. Moore indiCated that she had not experienCed suCh harassment. This email beCame publiC. 3. In response on February 1, 2018, you suspended Weir from the federal CauCus pending a third-party investigation by University of Ottawa law professor MiChelle Flaherty. There was no specific complaint. Potential Complainants were given until Feb. 20 to report any inCidents to the investigator. 4. Your offiCe sent an email to national staff asking them to respond to the investigator should they have had an experience of inappropriate behavior by Weir. -
Female Legislative Leadership and the CCF-NDP in Saskatchewan
de Clercy 1 Female Legislative Leadership and the CCF-NDP in Saskatchewan by Cristine de Clercy Department of Political Studies University of Saskatchewan [email protected] Paper presented to the 2006 meetings of the Canadian Political Science Association. York University, Toronto, June 3. Session M9, Saturday June 3. de Clercy 2 Female Legislative Leadership and the CCF-NDP in Saskatchewan Introduction This essay examines the relationship between women and the public sphere in the course of Saskatchewan’s first century, focusing on when, why and how women began participating in formal political institutions. It is interesting to survey the entry of women into formal politics because Saskatchewan’s political culture is unique. Many citizens take pride in their province’s socially progressive history, liberalism, egalitarianism and co-operative culture. The province’s experience with social democracy, the labour movement, populist agrarian politics, state hospitalization and medicare have led some analysts to compare it with western European social democracies such as Sweden and Denmark. In these states the rates of female electoral participation historically have been very high among developed democracies, and it is often assumed that women politicians face less discrimination and enjoy more equality with men where social democratic parties hold power. Is this the case in Saskatchewan? Since the province’s creation, have women here moved from the private sphere into the public sphere quickly and easily, and has this movement been expedited by the postwar dominance of the Co-operative Commonwealth- New Democratic party? What is the current state of affairs with respect to women’s representation in the legislature and within senior political offices? Have women achieved political parity with men? These are excellent questions that merit answers as the province begins its second century.
