Director, Office of Performing Arts Colleges of the Fenway (COF) is a collaborative effort of five neighboring Boston-based institutions of higher education in the Longwood Medical and Academic area. This collaboration was created to add value to student academic and social life while seeking innovative methods of investing in new services and containing the costs of higher education. The Director, Office of Performing Arts is responsible for the development, organization, management, and promotion of a shared co-curricular performing arts program for students, faculty and staff at the five member institutions: Emmanuel College, MCPHS University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Simmons University and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Currently engaging over 400 participants annually, the program ensembles are open to students, faculty and staff. In this capacity, the Director will continue to develop the vision for the program and work with various campus constituencies to deliver a high-level performing arts program with a primary focus on students. Notable Responsibilities Administration Administer and supervise all operations of COF’s performing arts program, including registration, marketing, space reservations, and promotion for all performing ensembles. Hire and supervise instructional staff for all performing ensembles, including ensemble directors, a shared Assistant Director of COF Dance, student interns, and external musicians as required. Prepare budgets, track expenses and create projections. Organize and meet with the Performing Arts Academic Advisory Committee (PAAAC), which includes faculty representation from each institution. Participate in Student Activities Committee meetings. Submit regular participation, attendance and financial reports as requested. Develop administrative process improvements to enhance office efficiencies. Consult regularly with academic, admissions and student affairs administrators to provide ongoing assessment of institutional and student demand. Build connections within performing arts faculty and staff at the member institutions. Performance Ensembles Conduct and directly administer one to two performance ensembles. Prepare and direct rehearsals to produce and conduct at least one concert per semester. Help ensemble directors administer select ensembles, recruit student performers, publicize auditions and rehearsals, track registrations, and produce performances. Arrange chamber music performances as requested. Make space arrangements for all rehearsals and performances. Academic Activities Teach the Introduction to Performing Arts course at Emmanuel College as part of the COF Minor in Performing Arts. Administer the COF Minor in Performing Arts. Track student participation and progress. Work with advisors, arts department faculty, and registrars, to approve student minor completion. Plan and implement other academic programs as recommended by the PAAAC and approved by the Chief Academic Officers. Marketing and Promotion Recruit student performers for the entire program via print and electronic media, which currently includes Jazz Band, Chorus, Dance, Theater Project, and Orchestra ensembles. Attend individual campus activities fairs and orientation presentations as needed. Work with the ensemble directors to promote all performing ensembles. Support admission departments with student recruitment efforts by providing promotional materials and/or individual contact follow-ups. Administer the Office of Performing Arts webpages on the COF website. Promote other performing arts events as requested by COF participating institutions. Other Respond to requests for performances from identified groups or ad hoc ensembles as available. Arrange performances within the COF community and the external community. Represent the COF Office of Performing Arts at external events/functions as appropriate. Serve as a key member of the COF staff; attend monthly COF staff meetings, and provide monthly reports to the Senior Director, Programs and Communications. Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in an area of the performing arts or art management. Doctorate degree preferred. Five plus years of experience conducting performance ensembles. Experience teaching at the college level. Experience in program management and administration. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. WordPress experience preferred. Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies with the desire to promote collaboration. Ability to foster trust and build interpersonal relationships. Ability to be energetic and have a high tolerance for ambiguity and nuance. Ability to occasionally physically lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds. This role is an 11-month position (July-May) compensated over 12 months. Qualified and Interested?
