Sonnets and Love-Songs, and Irene; a Memoir
' A SONNETS AND LOVE-SONGS AND IRENE; A MEMOIR, BY GEORGE GRAHAM CURRIE. • :• : ••• : • Press of Dean Publishing Company WoRt Palm Beach, Florida 1001. 7 01 THE UBttA&f 6f\ CONGRESS, I Two Ctwte RcocivcdI OCT. 3rf90?' OLA558 a XXa Mo. 2/277 COPY B. Entered according to Act of Congress^ in the year 1901, by George Graham Currie, in the office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington. PREFACE. At the present moment the greatest desire of my life is to improve and make beautiful the cemetery in which Irene, my bride-wife, was laid away to rest a few months ago. I have already spent money, time and exhortation to that end, and a great deal has indeed been done thanks to the enterprise and earnest efforts of the Ladies^ Cemetery Improvement Asso- ciation, of West Palm Beach, of which Mesdames Burnham, Potter, Stowers, Yarborough and Everett and Miss Potter are the officers. Still it will take a great many more dollars than have yet been raised to satisfy my desire. As I have already taxed my ordi- nary source of income to its utmost the publication of this book suggested itself as a possible means by which I might help to swell the fund still more. The cost of an edition of a thousand copies has been heavy and to become solvent again I will have to dispose of at least five hundred copies. Another two hundred copies will have to be given away for advertising purposes. Yet if I can dispose of the whole edition the cemetery can thereby be improved to the extent of at least $300 and it is with that hope that I publish the volume. -

screenwritersmonthly.com | Screenwriter’s Monthly Give ‘em some credit! Johnny Depp's performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is amazing. As film critic after film critic stumbled over Screenwriter’s Monthly can be found themselves to call his performance everything from "original" to at the following fine locations: "eccentric," they forgot one thing: the screenwriters, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who did one heck of a job creating Sparrow on paper first. Memoirs of a Geisha Arthur Golden Chapter One Suppose That You and I Were Sitting in a Quiet Room Overlooking a Gar-1 Den, Chatt
Generated by ABC Amber LIT Converter, http://www.processtext.com/abclit.html Memoirs Of A Geisha Arthur Golden Chapter one Suppose that you and I were sitting in a quiet room overlooking a gar-1 den, chatting and sipping at our cups of green tea while we talked J about something that had happened a long while ago, and I said to you, "That afternoon when I met so-and-so . was the very best afternoon of my life, and also the very worst afternoon." I expect you might put down your teacup and say, "Well, now, which was it? Was it the best or the worst? Because it can't possibly have been both!" Ordinarily I'd have to laugh at myself and agree with you. But the truth is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro really was the best and the worst of my life. He seemed so fascinating to me, even the fish smell on his hands was a kind of perfume. If I had never known him, I'm sure I would not have become a geisha. I wasn't born and raised to be a Kyoto geisha. I wasn't even born in Kyoto. I'm a fisherman's daughter from a little town called Yoroido on the Sea of Japan. In all my life I've never told more than a handful of people anything at all about Yoroido, or about the house in which I grew up, or about my mother and father, or my older sister-and certainly not about how I became a geisha, or what it was like to be one. -

Send questions to [email protected] Pippin Audition Advice Dear Mr. Schwartz, I am in need of some major advice. I have an audition for Pippin on September 8, and I could really use some of your wisdom about the show. I guess the easiest way is to list the questions:- What is the highest note Pippin sings in the original score?- What is the highest note the Leading Player sings in the original score?- Is the Original Cast Recording true to the music of the actual show? (I am assuming "yes," but sometimes cds are different.)- Does the part of Lewis sing in the show? I am a High Baritone who can belt a G as of now (7/26/2003) and if you could give me any advice of which part fits that, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Whitney Ackerman Answer from Forum visitor: I just music directed Pippin. Both the leading player and Pippin really need an Ab. A solid A is very helpful, esp. for the leading player. Louis doesn't specifically have any solo singing, although he is often given the "battles, barberous and bloody" line in Magic. Pippin: Leading Player Question: Hi! I'm playing a female leading player...I was reading an essay written by someone on their own take on the play Pippin and different symbolism. -

The Long, Hot Season: Buyers Applaud Spring But Gripe About Shows By Sharon Edelson and David Moin NEW YORK — A brutal show schedule with many off-site venues; hot, humid weather, and snarled traffic as a result of the United Nations summit left retailers feeling cranky last week, but nonetheless bullish about spring. Given the continuing strength of the luxury market, retailers said they expect their open-to-buys to be at least a few points ahead of last year and perhaps more if their companies are opening new stores. After all, the euro is dropping against the dollar, meaning designer goods might be less expensive come See Buyers, Page12 PHOTO BY JOHN AQUINO PHOTO BY 2 WWD, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 WWD.COM Saks Turns Down Bon-Ton By Vicki M. Idioms-And-Expressions.Pdf
Idioms and Expressions by David Holmes A method for learning and remembering idioms and expressions I wrote this model as a teaching device during the time I was working in Bangkok, Thai- land, as a legal editor and language consultant, with one of the Big Four Legal and Tax companies, KPMG (during my afternoon job) after teaching at the university. When I had no legal documents to edit and no individual advising to do (which was quite frequently) I would sit at my desk, (like some old character out of a Charles Dickens’ novel) and prepare language materials to be used for helping professionals who had learned English as a second language—for even up to fifteen years in school—but who were still unable to follow a movie in English, understand the World News on TV, or converse in a colloquial style, because they’d never had a chance to hear and learn com- mon, everyday expressions such as, “It’s a done deal!” or “Drop whatever you’re doing.” Because misunderstandings of such idioms and expressions frequently caused miscom- munication between our management teams and foreign clients, I was asked to try to as- sist. I am happy to be able to share the materials that follow, such as they are, in the hope that they may be of some use and benefit to others. The simple teaching device I used was three-fold: 1. Make a note of an idiom/expression 2. Define and explain it in understandable words (including synonyms.) 3. Give at least three sample sentences to illustrate how the expression is used in context. -
First Place Flash Fiction, Grades 7-8 Lily Wissler the Ten O'clock News
First Place Flash Fiction, Grades 7-8 Lily Wissler The Ten O’clock News Jane Matthers felt her traitorous lips lift into a smile, though she did not let it drop right away. Swishing around the remainder of the drink in front of her, Jane was leaning on her elbows, balancing on the edge of her bar stool. She was antsy for something, though she would never admit to what it was. That was a secret she’d take with her to the grave. If the undisclosed were an object, she would carry it between her painstakingly sanitized hands and clutch it in front of her carefully chosen cardigan. Jane had been a cautious child. Picking and pulling apart her every movement. Her words had always been so premeditated that she often found herself saying things that belonged to future conversations. The quality showed now as she shushed her hiccupy-giggles with an ease that had been practiced for years. Jane recounted the evening’s events. The screams played over in her head like her own personal soundtrack. She had felt comfort in the stabbing and slashing. There was neatness to it like a freshly printed dictionary. Jane wasn’t as careful to withhold her giggles this time. She felt wise. She had taken care of everything, tied every loose end. What she hadn’t accounted for was the mess. Jane had to burn the cashmere sweater, but it was worth it. After the first spike of adrenaline, she knew it was worth it. With restless limbs, and soaring spirits, Jane watched the TVs before her. -

ORTEGA HIGHWAY An original screenplay by C.J. Walworth Contact: C.J.Walworth [email protected] 213/674-0395 EXT. CASINO PARKING STRUCTURE -- NIGHT Four bikers arrive O.S. Riding an eclectic mix of motorcycles, which range from Harley to crotch-rocket to dirt bike. The Bikers park their machines pointing so as to allow for a quick escape. They exit their bikes in unison. They have the looks of people up to no good: nervous, a bit jumpy, and tightly-strung. A moment later, A fifth biker, who drives a dirt bike, who we shall call SUZUKI, 25-ish, petite Native American, pulls up to speak with the Biker Boss, who we shall call DUCATI. He rides a purple Ducati motorcycle, is clad in expensive Euro riding leathers with purple highlights and he sports a green Mohawk atop his helmet. Suzuki whispers something into Ducati’s ear. Ducati contemplates whatever it was that Suzuki told him for a moment; Ducati is deep in thought. Ducati points away into the parking structure and commands Suzuki to move his bike to a position and -- DUCATI Keep an eye out for trouble. -- Suzuki slowly drives to the position. With Ducati in the lead, the four bikers move as a team on foot, towards what is most likely the Casino Entrance. However -- EXT. CASINO SIGN - MOMENTS LATER -- they arrive at a sign: One way points towards “CASINO” the other points to “CASINO OPERATIONS.” The bikers take the path to the “Casino Operations.” INT. CASINO OPERATIONS - MOMENTS LATER The four Bikers move cautiously through the area. -
