    Appendix 1 North Dorset District Council Local Development Framework Assessment of Settlements Based on Population and Community Facilities Supporting Document to the Core Strategy: Issues and Options Paper May 2007 1.0 Introduction Scope and Purpose of the Report 1.1 In light of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and Planning Policy Statement 12: Local Development Frameworks, North Dorset District Council is undertaking evidence gathering work to assist in the preparation of its Local Development Framework (LDF), which will have regard to, and will contribute to, the achievement of sustainable development. 1.2 The main objective of this report is to identify and audit the current services and facilities presently found in all settlements within the District and the resident population of those settlements. This report will be used as part of the evidence base in the production of the Council’s Core Strategy. 1.3 This supporting document aims to generate options for the identification of sustainable settlements. These towns and villages will be the focus for future development and will be shown with a settlement boundary in the Council’s Core Strategy. 1.4 This report serves as only a part of the evidence base which will inform the production of the Council’s Core Strategy. Full stakeholder and community consultation will be undertaken, following the statutory requirements of the ‘new’ planning system, and the corporate objectives of the Council, in order that the final decisions made by the Council are fully informed by the views of the District’s communities.     Stourpaine Parish Council – response to Dorset Local Plan consultation This response by Stourpaine Parish Council to the Dorset Council Local Plan consultation has been prepared to focus on aspects of the plan that do or could have an impact on the parish of Stourpaine and its inhabitants. We have not covered many of the more general issues in the plan. Section 1 – Introduction In October 2013, an update to the 2007 Stourpaine Parish Plan was published following a period of extensive consultation and research among the resident population. A range of issues were covered which included asking residents what they liked about living in Stourpaine. A significant proportion of residents (44% of 188 adults responding) stated spontaneously that they considered the surrounding countryside to be very beautiful and access to essential facilities in neighbouring towns is easy. A comprehensive assessment of the landscape and character of parish of Stourpaine is detailed in the Strategic Landscape and Heritage Study for the North Dorset Area, Assessment of land surrounding the larger villages, Prepared by LUC for Dorset Council, October 2019. As stated in the report “This study provides robust and up-to-date evidence to feed into the local plan (the current draft Dorset Local Plan) to help inform the scale, form and location of future development to minimise harm to the landscape, heritage assets and the historic character and setting of the settlements within the North Dorset area”. This report clearly describes the key landscape features of Stourpaine as follows: “The village and its surrounds are located within three different Landscape Character Areas.

Apologies – There were apologises for absence from Dora Sherringham, Anne England and Martin Jelbart. 2. Declarations of Interest – There were no declarations of interest. 3. Minutes of Previous Meeting The Minutes of the meeting held on 19th September 2018 were read and approved and following the meeting signed by the Chairman. 4. Matters Arising i) Compton Abbas Airfield Meeting – The Chairman had attended this meeting. There was nothing that specifically concerned Sutton Waldron. The main topic was County Highways reporting on the new junction between the airfield road and the C13. Construction is planned for Spring 2019. ii) Drains – The Clerk had followed this up and Rolly Skeats - the Community Highways Team Leader had confirmed that he had asked the owners of the field at Sutton House if Highways could have access to the field to reconnect the pipe that at present empties into the pond so that it can get to its original and preferred outfall which was the stream. The owners had asked if this work could be delayed until the spring as the work that Highways would need to do would damage the field too much at this time of the year.
