CashBack for Communities Edinburgh Local Authority 2015/16 About CashBack for Communities CashBack for Communities is a Scottish Government programme which takes funds recovered from the proceeds of crime and invests them into free activities and programmes for young people across Scotland. Inspiring Scotland is the delivery partner for the CashBack for Communities programme, appointed in July 2012. CashBack invests monies seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 back into our communities. Since 2008 the Scottish Government has committed £92 million to CashBack / community initiatives, funding community activities and facilities largely, but not exclusively, for young people. CashBack supports all 32 Local Authorities across Scotland. Sporting and recreational activities / culture / mentoring and employability / community projects. CashBack has delivered nearly 2 million activities and opportunities for young people. Phase 3 of CashBack runs to end March 2017 and is focused on positive outcomes for young people. CashBack for Communities: Aims CashBack activities: . Use the proceeds of crime in a positive way to expand young people’s horizons and increase their opportunities to develop their interests and skills in an enjoyable, fulfilling and supportive way. Are open, where possible, to all children and young people, while focusing resources in those communities suffering most from antisocial behaviour and crime. Seek to increase levels of participation to help divert young people away from ‘at risk’ behaviour, and will aim to increase the positive long-term outcomes for those who take part. The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site Management Plan July 2005 Prepared by Edinburgh World Heritage on behalf of the Scottish Ministers, the City of Edinburgh Council and the Minister for Media and Heritage Foreword en years on from achieving World Heritage Site status we are proud to present Edinburgh’s first World Heritage Site Management Plan. The Plan provides a framework T for conservation in the heart of Scotland’s capital city. The preparation of a plan to conserve this superb ‘world’ city is an important step on a journey which began when early settlers first colonised Castle Rock in the Bronze Age, at least 3,000 years ago. Over three millennia, the city of Edinburgh has been shaped by powerful historical forces: political conflict, economic hardship, the eighteenth century Enlightenment, Victorian civic pride and twentieth century advances in science and technology. Today we have a dynamic city centre, home to 24,000 people, the work place of 50,000 people and the focus of a tourism economy valued at £1 billion per annum. At the beginning of this new millennium, communication technology allows us to send images of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site instantly around the globe, from the broadcasted spectacle of a Festival Fireworks display to the personal message from a visitor’s camera phone. It is our responsibility to treasure the Edinburgh World Heritage Site and to do so by embracing the past and enhancing the future. The World Heritage Site is neither a museum piece, nor a random collection of monuments. It is today a complex city centre which daily absorbs the energy of human endeavour. -

Edinburgh Design Guidance October 2017 Foreword Edinburgh Design Guidance - Raising the Bar Edinburgh is a unique city of extraordinary quality. Contained between the Pentland Hills in the south and the Firth of Forth to the north, our city has grown from the medieval form of the Old Town across the Waverley Valley to the classical layout of the New Town and beyond into the tenemented and terraced stone suburbs of the 19th and 20th century. Over the centuries architects, builders and developers have exploited the topography and the natural environment to create the stunning city we have today: a city with two world heritage sites that consistently ranks as one of the best places in the UK to live, work and study. The task facing us now is to ensure that future developers and builders reflect on the nature of the city and design with that enduring quality in mind. Some recent developments have failed to grasp this challenge resulting in bland, universal architecture. In the context of an expanding city, this is something we need to address – just good enough will no longer be good enough. We need to create developments that we are proud of, and not just add another suburban extension to the last one. We need to create new city suburbs and new employment areas, places which reflect and build upon the city’s rich architectural and design qualities, but are places in their own right. To achieve this we must all work with the same ambition. Councillors, planning officers and developers must all have the same aims for the city – to raise the bar, create great places and match the quality of our predecessors. -

Wind Resistance is the first production that will feature The Lyceum’s new Artistic Director, David Greig, (as Dramaturg) since his appointment and reunites Greig with site-specific theatre-maker, Wils Wilson. Their previous work together includes the hugely successful The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, the internationally acclaimed Scottish folk-theatre fable that has toured four continents and nine countries. Wind Resistance will be performed in The Lyceum’s ‘Rehearsal Studio’, a new, bespoke venue created in the theatre company’s own rehearsal space to provide an intimate and unique setting for this fusion of music and theatre.
