This position has always resulted in all types of cooperation and competition. For the past decade or so, however, this dynamic has intensified, with Europe trying to define, or redefine its role and perspective as an industrial powerhouse on its own - and in relation to other global areas. Pierre Gattaz will share his views. Thursday, Pierre Gattaz became President of BusinessEurope on 5 July 2018. Until then, he held the January 31 Presidency of BusinessEurope’s French member federation MEDEF (Movement of French 9.10 AM - 9.40 PM Enterprises). He is a graduate of Telecom Bretagne (l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne) and holds a Certificate in Administrative Management from the George Washington University (USA). From June 2010 to July 2013, he was also President of the GFI (Group of Industrial Federations - 17 industrial federations representing 80% of French industry) and a founding member of La Fabrique (the Industry’s Think Tank). Pierre Gattaz is Knight of the French Legion of Honour and Officer of the Order of Merit. GLOBAL GROWTH STRATEGIES FOR COATINGS Charles Shaver, Chairman, Axalta Coatings Systems, United States of America Uncertain times, regulatory pressure and the need for continuous innovation while maintaining productivity levels: Supplying coatings in today`s world has become a challenge for any company, anywhere. Axalta, as a global leader, continues to excel, and Axalta`s Chairman will share his perspective on what strategies to pursue in the face of mega-trends, both old and new. Thursday, Charles is Chairman at Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE: AXTA). He has spent more than 35 years January 31 in the global petrochemical, oil, and gas industry. From 2004 to 2011, prior to leading Axalta 9.40 AM - 10.20 AM and becoming it’s CEO, Charlie was Chief Executive Officer and President of the TPC Group. Recently he has assumed new responsibilities. A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE: COATINGS IN CHINA Thierry Vanlancker, CEO, Akzo Nobel, The Netherlands For almost two decades, Shanghai Huayi China has grown into the world´s largest national coatings market, and continues to show attractive growth offering opportunities, both for domestic and foreign companies. Akzo Nobel has been particularly successful and built up a very significant presence in China with well-known brands like Dulux, Sikkens, Interpon and International. Thierry Vanlancker, CEO of Akzo Nobel, will share his view on trends and developments as well as his own experience with the fast-changing Chinese economy. Thursday, January 31 Thierry Vanlancker, a Belgian national, joined Akzo Nobel in 2016. Before being appointed CEO 10.20 AM - 11.00 AM in 2017, he was responsible for the Specialty Chemicals business. Prior to 2016, he worked for DuPont and then Chemours. UNLOCKING NEW VALUE IN THE VALUE CHAIN Neil Carr, Business President, Dow, United States of America Dow has never fit neatly in the “materials supplier” category of the paints and coatings industry. After all, the company’s rich coatings pedigree launched from water-based acrylic emulsion technology that revolutionized the industry more than 60 years ago, and remains rich today thanks to a new lineup of technological “firsts” that place the company squarely at the forefront of consumer innovation. Yet in an age of rapid customer consolidation featuring players with both captive production and increasing R&D sophistication, what are the new drivers for growth? Neil Carr will address, and invite discussion on, the new value Thursday, January 31 (proposition) in the value chain. 11.30 AM - 12.10 PM Neil Carr is the Business President for Dow`s global Coating Materials, Performance Monomers and Plastics Additives business portfolio. Carr also serves as President of Dow Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. He has had an extensive career as a leader of businesses and functional organizations for Fortune 500 companies in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries in both North America and Europe. This has included leadership positions for businesses including paints and coatings and specialty additives businesses, as well as for procurement and logistics support organizations. REGIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MARKETING ADVANTAGE Patrick Houlihan, Managing Director & CEO, DuluxGroup, Australia Maintaining long term market leadership and growth in an established, ‘mature’ market demands continuous evolution. DuluxGroup has achieved exactly that in Australia and New Zealand. MD & CEO Patrick Houlihan will provide insights into the company’s strategic and operational approach. One key element is the ongoing commitment to marketing, which has translated into a tangible and sustained competitive advantage. Thursday, Patrick has worked at DuluxGroup for 30 years and has led the company as the CEO for January 31 the last 12 years.
