These stamps were issued to help publicize the event . More than 29 , 000 scouts from 54 countries attended. This cover, dated 1 May , 1937/ was carried across the At lantic ocean by the famous Hindenbu rg hydrogen fi l led airship LZ 129 / which crashed upon landing at Lakehurst , New Jersey, on 7 May, 1937. The U.S. post office salvaged mail and delivered what was left of a letter in sealed wrappers. According t o post office records, t his let ter was signed for and was delivered t o t he addressee . While not depicted on the stamps the 12- 1/ 2c stamp cost 15c and the 7-1/ 2c stamp was sold for 10c from 1 May - 9 June, 1937, valid for postage at face value until 31 December 1938. Trial color proofs in brown , blue, red , grey and orange were discarded and the selected issues were (rose)carmine and sepia (brown). With 70 ha of nature the Scout estates offers the guests wide grass land to camp and play, woods with different kinds of heights, which are surrounding some sides, some ponds where the scouts can do water activities, and the combination of wide water, where you can sail or canoe. It’s good to tell that most of the Scout Estate is below sea level and still safe to camp. On the campsite you can find different kinds of special species, like orchids, bee friendly bushes and trees and species which like the clay soil.

    Collecting Scouting Handbooks The ISCA Getting Started Collecting Series If you are now or were ever a Scout, your first Scouting “collectible” was probably your Cub Scout or Boy Scout handbook. Since Scouting was founded in 1908 and then incorporated in the United States in 1910, there have been millions and millions of Scouting handbooks distributed. In this introductory article we will only talk about Handbooks for the Boy Scouts of America. However, if collecting printed materials from Scouting catches your interest, there are many different possibilities that a collector can consider, from both the United States and around the world. Since 1911, there have been eleven completely different editions of the Boy Scout Handbook. The following is a brief summary of each one. 1910 68,900 copies The 1910 Handbook, also referred to as the “Original Edition”, was not new material but rather a compilation of existing information from two other sources. Soon after the incorporation of the Boy Scouts of America in February 1910, there was a huge demand for a handbook that could be used to support the efforts of the early United States Scouts. Ernest Thompson Seton, the first Chief Scout of the BSA, offered to prepare a book that could be used until the first “real” handbook could be developed. He took material from Baden-Powell’s Scouting for Boys that had been published in England in 1908 and his own Birch Bark Roll used by the Woodcraft Indians, an earlier outdoor program youth group, and combined them to make the first Boy Scouts of America Official Handbook.

This insightful grouping of materials highlights the tenures of former Chief Scout Executives James E. West, Joseph Brunton, Alden Barber, Harvey Price, J.L. Tarr, and Ben Love. Speeches and associated writings from Deputy Chief Scout Executive George Fisher are included, in addition to writings by national Presidents Irving Feist, Norton Clapp, Robert Reneker, Arch Monson Jr., and Downing B. Jenks. These speeches and writings offer an exclusive look into the minds of prominent professionals and volunteers throughout history. Suggested outlines by speech writers, handwritten notes within the margins, and edited rough drafts provide a personal connection to these past leaders who created and accomplished so much for the Boy Scouts of America. The content of the documents includes recorded minutes of National Council meetings, speeches given at local council meetings, dedication ceremonies, and tributes. Deze woordenlijst staat ter beschikking van elk lid van de vereniging, zodat er altijd een gemakkelijk hulpmiddel is waarop iedereen schrijfwijzen kan nakijken. Voor vragen over de woordenlijst kun je terecht bij [email protected] De woordenlijst is als wordbestand te downloaden van onze website www.scouting.nl onder Publicaties: www.scouting.nl/static/algemeen/publicaties.html Uitgangspunten 1. Scouting (eigennaam) wordt altijd met een hoofdletter geschreven, ook in combinaties als Scoutingkleding, Scoutinghistorie, Scoutingprogramma, enz. met uitzondering van gecombineerde namen als waterscouting, luchtscouting, enz. ‘Hebben we het over scouting (geen hoofdletter) dan heeft het onder meer te maken met het scouten en scouts bij voetballerij en tv.’ 2. Ook bij onderdelen van Scouting gebruiken we kleine letters: regio Zeeland, admiraliteit 21, landelijk bestuur, landelijke raad, landelijke communicatiedag, landelijk servicecentrum (in plaats van Landelijk bureau), enz. 3. Speltakken worden met een kleine letter geschreven: bevers, dolfijnen, welpen, esta’s, kabouters, scouts, matrozen, explorers, loodsen, jongerentak, wilde-vaart, plus-scouts, enz. Dit geldt ook voor trappersexpedities, hikes, interessekampen, scoutfit (inplaats van uniform), scoutcard, enz. 4. Logowoorden en titels worden wél met een hoofdletter geschreven: Scout-In, Scouts Info, Beverpost, Scouty, Flitz, ScoutShop, ScoutProof, enz. 5.     COMMISSIONER SERVICE, OUR FIRST HUNDRED YEARS A research thesis submitted to the College College of Commissioner Science Longhorn Council In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor of Commissioner Science Degree By Paul N Dreiseszun 2010 INTRODUCTION As we approach the 100th anniversary of Scouting and the Commissioner Service, we need to look back and salute those Scouters that have worn the insignia of the Commissioner. Scouting has changed in those many years. Requirements and uniforms have changed. Council structures and boundaries have been altered. But the role of the Commissioner as Scouting's conduit for unit service remains unchanged. I have been honored to serve as a Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner, and District Commissioner. My experience is that it can be the most difficult position in Scouting. But it can also be one of the most rewarding jobs in Scouting. As we reach Scouting's centennial, the Commissioner position is getting renewed emphasis and exposure. Funding for non-profits is getting harder to come by resulting in less growth of the professional staffs. The need for more volunteer Commissioners is as great or greater than any time in the past Our role in Scouting will continue to be fundamentally important for the next 100 years. As Commissioners, we must make sure that every unit is offering their boys exactly what is promised to them …, fun, excitement, adventure, and ultimately a quality experience. The Roots of Commissioner Service As Commissioners in the Boy Scouts of America, we are delegated authority and responsibility from the National Council through our "Commission" per the By Laws of the National Council.

    National Jamboree 2020 Standard Terms and Conditions for Participants Established 1st May 2019 Introduction The Dutch National Jamboree 2020 is an event during summer that lasts nine days, replacing summer camp for most groups. Together with other groups from inside, and outside of the Netherlands, you and your section will camp in one of the subcamps on the International Scout and Guide Center Scouting Estate Zeewolde. The program is filled with big, interesting and awesome activities. Taking part in this camp will be something you will always remember. The Dutch National Jamboree 2020 is suited for the following participants: a. Youth participant who are, in 2020, a member of a scout section of a scouting group and have a minimum age of 11 years and a maximum of 14 years old. If your country accepts other ages for a scout section, you are allowed to attend the Dutch National Jamboree, but you have to be aware of these ages in The Netherlands. b. Participation is only possible with a section, and sections can not have participants from mixed age groups. This is because each section will camp in different places. c. A section consists of youth participants and leaders. All leaders have to have the minimum age requirements of scouts: 18 years old. d. The guidelines handled for the leader – youth participants ratio is 1 to 6 for scouts sections, with a minimum of two leaders per section. e. The leaders attending are expected, next to taking care of their sections, to make some time available to help with tasks that support the organization and activities of the camp.

    JOINT DOCUMENT 6 JOINT CONFERENCE REPORT 16th European Guide and Scout Conference Split, Croatia 24-28 August 2019 Introduction This document records all the decisions made at the 16th European Guide and Scout Conference and serves as the Conference Report. All conference documents are available on the website of the Conference (http://16egsc.europak-online.net). The 16th European Guide and Scout Conference was hosted by Savez izviđača Hrvatske (SIH, the Scout Association of Croatia) and was held at the Campus of the University of Split in Croatia The Conference met on 25 and 28 August 2019 for a total of two half-day working sessions. A number of social activities allowed for informal gathering of delegates and included the Conference Opening (offsite at Gripe Fortress), the International Evening and Europe Market, the Croatian Evening (offsite at Klis Fortress), and the Closing Ceremony and open-air dinner (offsite at Park Josipa Jurja Strossmayera). An informal beach party was also arranged by the Conference hosts for the one free evening. Geneva & Brussels, November 2019 Reflection Our hosts, Savez izviđača Hrvatske, started the Conference in style with a motivating presentation of their inspiring reforestation programme Boranka. Opening The chairpersons of the two Regional Committees, Marjolein Sluijters (Europe Committee WAGGGS) and Kevin Camilleri (European Scout Committee, WOSM) officially declared open the 16th European Guide and Scout Conference on 25 August 2019, when they welcomed delegates, observers and guests from across Europe and even further afield. Nearly 500 people were in attendance at the Joint Conference. Participants were reminded that they can access information about the Conference on the Facebook page.
