Virgin Galactic, ‘s werelds eerste commerciële ‘spaceline’, onthulde vandaag zijn nieuwste ruimteschip, ondersteund door een Range Rover Astronaut Edition. Land Rover blijft een geïntegreerd onderdeel van de dagelijkse activiteiten van Virgin Galactic, nu het bedrijf testvluchten met ‘SpaceShipTwo’ afwerkt en een regelmatige commerciële dienst begint. De voertuigen van Land Rover zijn een vaste waarde geworden in het dagelijkse leven van het Virgin Galactic-team: ze verslepen ruimtevoertuigen, vervoeren uitrusting en maken de start- en landingsbanen vrij voor vertrek. Ook speelden ze een belangrijke rol bij de eerste twee ruimtevluchten van Virgin Galactic, die de onderneming tot het eerste privébedrijf maakte dat mensen naar de ruimte bracht met een ruimteschip ontworpen voor commerciële vluchten. Een vloot van Land Rovers ondersteunde ook de verhuizing van Virgin Galactic van zijn productie- en testfaciliteiten in Mojave (Californië) naar Spaceport America in New Mexico – ‘s werelds eerste speciaal gebouwde commerciële ruimtehaven. Virgin Galactic heeft al ongeveer 600 Future Astronaut-klanten, die vanuit Spaceport America naar hun vluchten zullen worden vervoerd met voertuigen van Land Rover. In 2019 werd de Range Rover Astronaut Edition onthuld door Virgin Galactic-oprichter Sir Richard Branson en Chief Creative Officer Prof. Gerry McGovern OBE. De luxe-SUV’s, gecreëerd door Land Rover SV Bespoke en exclusief aangeboden aan Future Astronauts van Virgin Galactic, brengen hulde aan de gedeelde waarden van het partnerschap en de historische bijdrage van de Future Astronaut-gemeenschap aan de democratisering van de ruimte. Virgin Galactic heeft een team van acht uiterst ervaren piloten en bereidt zich voor op zijn volgende door raketten aangedreven vlucht in New Mexico. Doctors Investigate Mysterious Brain Disease Cluster in Canada by Mary F. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is a degenerative brain disorder that causes personality changes, anxiety, depression and memory loss. The disorder, which can occur spontaneously or be inherited, can eventually lead to dementia and death. Officials in Canada are trying to find the cause of a mysterious brain disease, which resembles Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and has affected more than 40 people in the New Brunswick province. According to a report by Live Science. Canadian officials first alerted doctors in the New Brunswick area that they were evaluating 43 cases of an unknown neurological disease. Even though the first case was identified back in 2015, there have been a rising number of cases in recent years, with 24 cases reported in 2020 and six reported so far this year. Five deaths have also been associated with the disease insofar. Although doctors first speculated the cases were Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, tests conducted so far do not show any evidence of the disease. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is caused by prions, a type of protein that can cause normal proteins in the brain to fold abnormally. Prion diseases, which can affect both humans and animals, can sometimes be spread to humans through infected meat products.
