TOWSON, Md. – A pair of tennis standouts, sophomore Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff of the University of Auburn at Montgomery and senior Ashlan Allison of Olivet Nazarene University, headline the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division men’s and women’s at-large teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® men’s and women’s at-large teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. The at-large team for the Capital One Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, , rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men. Pinones-Haltenhoff, a biology major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., led Auburn-Montgomery to a runner- up finish at the NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship Tournament. A first team NAIA All- American, the Barcelona, Spain native played No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles for the Warhawks. He won both of his matches in the 5-4 chamionship match loss to Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University. He won his singles match 7-5, 6-1 and posted an 8-4 win in doubles. Pinones-Haltenhoff ended the with a 21-1 record in singles play, including an 18-1 mark at the No. 1 position. He was 21-2 in doubles play and led Auburn Montgomery to a 21-4 overall record. A social work and business (concentration in marketing and not-for-profit) double major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Allison led Olivet Nazarene (18-9) to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament tennis titles and a berth in the NAIA National Championship. The Anderson, Ind., native posted a 19-6 singles record and a doubles record of 20-13. Allison received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/NAIA Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship and the NAIA Scholar-Athlete Award in 2013. She has traveled abroad on mission trips to Guatemala and Haiti and participated in several mission trips within the United States, including a relief trip to aid Hurricane Katrina victims. Allison has also been very active in her community by volunteering at church, local schools, nursing homes, independent living locations, the United Way, and helped with various projects through her school’s business club. The 15 members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.78. Felix and Freeman are repeat Capital One Academic All-America® first team selections, while Clark and Palmer made the second team in 2012. Ehrenheim and Green earned third team honors last year. Embry-Riddle (Fla.) was the only school with three first team representatives. Felix, Freeman and Spennare are all teammates on the Eagles’ NAIA national championship men’s tennis team, which won the first NAIA national title in program history with a 24-2 record. A junior air traffic management major with a 3.86 G.P.A., Felix is a two-team NAIA and ITA All- American. The Geneva, Swtizerland, native registered a 25-4 singles record this season and went 30-5 in doubles play while earning first-team all-conference honors. A senior aeronautical science major with a 3.75 G.P.A., Freeman earned NAIA All-America first team honors while leading the Eagles to the national title. He posted a 22-5 singles mark and was 22-8 in doubles. Freeman and teammate Deni Zmak were named as the Sun Conference’s Doubles Team of the Year. The Costa Mesa, Cal., native ended the year ranked No. 15 in nation. A senior business administration major with a 3.93 G.P.A., Spennare earned all-conference second team notice for Embry-Riddle while winning 26 of 29 singles matches. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native was the recipient of the ITA’s Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship last year. A senior accounting and finance major with a 3.68 G.P.A., Clark helped Northwestern to a 17th-place finish at the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship Tournament. The Spencer, Iowa, native placed 81st at nationals with a four-round score of 317. He played 11 rounds in six events this spring, posting a 76.5 scoring average with a low round of 67. A senior sport management major with a 3.76 G.P.A., Dierking helped Saint Ambrose to the NAIA National Invitational Volleyball Tournament four times during his career. Dierking was named second team all-conference after collecting 214 kills, 119 digs and 25 total blocks. Dierking and the Bees won the MAMVIC East Division regular-season and tournament championships. A senior business management major with a 3.62 G.P.A., Ehrenheim posted a12-2 record in individual events in dual meets for the Asbury swimming team. The Owensboro, Ky., native placed sixth at the NAIA National Championship Meet in the 200-backstroke and helped set five school records in the relays at nationals. Ehrenheim was named the NAIA Swimmer of the Month in December of 2012 and is a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete. Good is a senior management and economics major with a 3.75 G.P.A. The Stockholm, Sweden, native helped the St. Thomas golf to a runner-up finish at the Sun Conference Tournament. Good posted an average score of 73.6 and was named to the academic all-conference team. A senior exercise science major with a 3.92 G.P.A., Green guided Northwest Christian to a seventh- place showing at the Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s golf tournament. On the season, the Springfield, Ore., native compiled an 80.3 average with a low round of 72. He had one top-10 finish and he is a two-time Academic All-CCC selection who earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors twice. Humphrey is a junior accounting and management major with a 3.96 G.P.A. The Danville, Ind., native helped the Grace tennis team its first conference championship in 23 years with a 7-1 conference mark. Humphrey finished with a 9-2 record in singles play during the 2012 fall season and was 8-2 in doubles play, winning 10 straight matches to end the year. Additionally, Humphrey was a perfect 6-0 in the Crossroads League Tournament. - more – Pinones-Haltenhoff, Allison Top Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Team A senior biology major with a 3.84 G.P.A., Nowak helped the College of Idaho ski team qualify for the USCSA National Championships, where the team placed 13th. The Dryden, Mich., native, finished in the Top-10 in six NWCSC qualifying events this season, helping the Yotes to their highest Regional finish since 2009. Nowak was an All-Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference selection this year as well. Palmer is a finance major with a 3.33 G.P.A. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native helped the Oklahoma City men’s golf team to the 2013 NAIA National Championship as the Stars posted a four- round score of four-under 1,148. Palmer had a strong showing at nationals with a fourth-place finish at two-under 286. In addition to making the NAIA All-Tournament Team, Palmer was named to the NAIA All-America first team. A sophomore business major with a 3.84 G.P.A., Ramirez led the Oklahoma Baptist swimming team to the 2013 NAIA National Championship. The Hermosillo, Mexico, native set NAIA records in the 100 -freestyle and the 100-backstroke at the national championship meet. The NAIA Swimmer of the Year, Ramirez was the national champion in the 100-freestyle, the 100-backstroke, the 200-medley relay and the 200-freestyle relay. He was also an All-America in the 200-individual medley. Specht is a senior math education major with a 3.81 G.P.A. The Plains, Kan., native helped the Ashford golf team finish third at the NAIA Tournament. The Saints carded a three-round score of 892 while Specht tied for 11th overall with a 225. He finished the year with a 74.83 scoring average. A senior criminal justice major with 3.72 G.P.A., Wollenberg led the Hannibal-LaGrange volleyball team to a 9-20 record. The Oswego, Ill., native ranked third in NAIA in total kills (376), seventh in total service aces (29), eighth in kills per game (3.72), and 10th in service aces per game (.29) this year. He closed out career with 1,576 kills and 3.65 kills per game and was a first team all- conference selection in 2013.

Capital One College Division Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large Team

Joining Allison on the Capital One Academic All-America® women’s at-large first team are A.C. Agee of Cumberland University, Summer Beaird of Concordia (Cal.) University; Krystal Carlson, Mary Horton and Cameron Oakley of Morningside College, Jade Curtis of Auburn Montgomery; Trish Gibbens of College of Idaho; Michelle Hall of Madonna University, Fiona Lester of Wilfrid Laurier University, Kristina Marova of Embry-Riddle; Janel Prather of Kansas Wesleyan University, Kayla Rhoades of Marian (Ind.) University, Jordan Schaardt of Peru State College, and Shantel Wagner of Oklahoma City. Allison is one of six tennis players on the women’s first team. There are also five golfers while swimming, ice hockey, bowling and crew each had one representative on the first team. Eleven of the 15 players on the first team are repeat performers from 2012. Carlson, Gibbens, Lester and Rhoades were named to the first team last year while Agee, Hall, Horton, Oakley, Prather and Wagner were part of the second team. Marova was a third-team honoree in 2012. An English and Criminal Justice double major with a 3.87 G.P.A., Agee is a senior golfer at Cumberland. A native of Dyersburg, Tenn., she finished her career with three victories, 11 second- place finishes and 25 top five showings in 39 tournaments. She earned all-conference honors three times and was an honorable mention all-league pick in 2013. Agee also served as Student Body twice as well as President of the Criminal Justice Club and Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta and the Residence Hall Association. She earned conference Scholar-Athlete honors the last three years and earned her second NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor in 2013. - more – Pinones-Haltenhoff, Allison Top Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Team A senior tennis player for No. 13 Concordia, Beaird has a 3.96 G.P.A. as she works on her master’s degree in business. She led Concordia to a 10-12 record and a berth in the second round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament. A two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Beaird, a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, posted an 11-8 record in singles and a 12-9 mark in doubles in 2013. A senior swimmer from Richfield, Minn., Carlson has a 3.89 G.P.A. as a biology and chemistry major. She finished eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:07.20) and 13th in the 500-freestyle (5:16.12) at the NAIA National Championship. A three-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, she is the vice president of Morningside’s chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. Carlson, who owns school records in four individual and four relay events, is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Beta Beta Beta honor societies. Horton, a senior tennis player at Morningside, has a 3.99 G.P.A. as an elementary education major. Horton earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference accolades in 2013 as she had a 11-7 record in singles and an 11-10 ledger in doubles for the Mustangs (12-9). The three time NAIA Scholar-Athlete is Morningside’s record holder with 32 career singles wins, 30 career doubles wins, and 62 combined career wins. A political science and English double major, Oakley has a 4.00 G.P.A. at Morningside. A junior golfer from Sioux City, Iowa, she earned All-GPAC honors for the third time with a 90.4 stroke average in 2013. She finished in seventh place at the GPAC Tournament. Oakley, who is a NAIA Scholar-Athlete, is the vice president of Morningside’s Sigma Tau Delta English honor society and was accepted to present a paper at its 2013 national convention in Portland, Ore. Oakley is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. A communications and dramatic arts major with a 3.74 G.P.A., Curtis is a junior tennis player from Saltash, England. Curtis completed her second consecutive perfect season for the Warhawks (17-8) in singles, finishing the year 21-0. She had a 21-2 doubles record as Auburn Montgomery won its third NAIA national title in 2013. Curtis, who has won 60 consecutive singles matches, is ranked by the ITA as the No. 1 player in the NAIA, and has been a first-team All-American in each of her first three seasons at AUM. She received the second Marvin P. Richmond Outstanding Player of the NAIA Tournament award in 2013. Curtis was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and was selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Year in 2013. A senior golfer at the College of Idaho, Gibbens is a business major with a 3.52 G.P.A. A native of Caldwell, Idaho, Gibbens was named the College of Idaho’s Senior Women’s Athlete of the Year. She led the Yotes to an at-large berth to the NAIA National Championship in 2013. A three-time All- Cascade Conference selection and a 2011 NAIA All-American, Gibbens finished in 24th place at the national tournament. She holds the single-season and career scoring records for the C of I, along with the lowest competitive round (70) for the Yotes. A two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, she qualified in 2012 for the U.S. Women's Amateur Pub Links Championships, but did not make the cut. A senior golfer at Madonna University, Hall is a business major with a 3.50 G.P.A. The owner of an 82.3 scoring average, she led Madonna to a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament title in 2013. The top finisher at the 36-hole event, Hall earned All-WHAC first team honors for the fourth straight season, becoming the first MU golfer to earn first team honors four times. An NAIA Scholar- Athlete, she had 10 top-10 finishes as a senior. The two-time Madonna Female Athlete of the Year, she led the to three NAIA national championship appearances and was twice named the WHAC individual championship in her career. - more –

Pinones-Haltenhoff, Allison Top Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Team Lester, who has a 3.9 G.P.A. as a biology major, is a senior defenseman from Petersborough, Ontario, Canada. Lester was awarded the Outstanding Woman of Laurier as she scored seven goals and assisted on 12 others for 19 points. She is a two-time OUA first team all-star and received the Wilfrid Laurier Luke Fusco Academic Achievement Award twice. Lester was named to the All- Academic Canadian team three times and was a two-time OUA champion. A business administration major with a 3.85 G.P.A., Marova is a junior tennis player from Star Sediste, Czech Republic. Marova helped the seventh-ranked Eagles (12-10) reach the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championship. The three-time All-The Sun Conference honoree, she is ranked 14th nationally in singles with an 18-10 mark and was second in doubles with a 19-11 record. The NAIA Scholar-Athlete was awarded the 2013-14 Steve & Vicky Ridder and ERAU Champion of Character scholarships and was named to the NAIA All-America second team in 2013. Prather, who is a junior tennis player from Sterling, Kan., has a 4.0 G.P.A. as a exercise science/pre- physical therapy major. Prather, who graduated from Kansas Wesleyan in just three years, was 8-6 overall in singles and 10-5 overall in doubles for the Coyotes (12-6). She was also named as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2013 and received the President’s Medallion at commencement. A member of the Alpha Chi honor society, Prather received the SPES Department Exercise Science Award this year. A senior bowler at Marian University, Rhoades is a nursing major with a 3.78 G.P.A. She led the Knights to their first-ever appearance at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in just their third season of competition. The 2012 American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference Player of the Year, she led the team in scoring average with a 189.224 average in 10 events. She finished 52nd in the nation in scoring average and was part of a team that finished 11th in the nation. Rhoades earned six top 10 showings and finished in the top 25 in nine of the 10 events in which she competed. She earned the title at the Western Shootout before earning a sixth-place finish at the AHIBC II tournament and a fifth-place finish at the AHIBC III tournament. In tier one events, Rhoades earned a runner-up finish at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic before turning in a third-place finish at the Blue and Gold Classic. Schaardt, who is a senior golfer from Humboldt, Neb., has a 3.77 G.P.A. as an elementary and early childhood education major. Schaardt became the first-ever Bobcat this season to compete in the NAIA National Championship after winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament. The two-time Bobcat golf team captain, she was a medalist in numerous meets over her three-year career. The two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete is a member of the Alpha Chi honor society. Wagner, who has a 3.81 G.P.A. as a nursing major, is a senior rower from Oklahoma City, Okla. Wagner won the lightweight single in the Heart of Texas Regatta and finished in ninth place in the women’s collegiate single in the Head of Oklahoma Regatta this season.
