The roof of the main house requires re-leading and while the structure is exposed they will carry out repairs to the 17th Century roof timbers. The roof of the orangery has suffered from a lack of ventilation and severe water ingress, as a result substantial repair is required to the slender timber trusses. To make the most of this unique opportunity a visitor access scaffold has been designed and constructed around the mansion to allow the public to view ‘conservation in action’, this has presented its own challenges in terms of archaeology, access to a working property and poor ground conditions. We will meet down by the house at 3.45pm and have a tour of the rooftop walkway followed by a talk with National Trust tea and cake.
