In painting cypress and similar woods, it has been demonstrated that on the priming coat, if the paint is thinned to the proper consistency with Destructively Distilled Wood Turpentine instead of other thinners, a very much better job is the result. This is due to the fact that the gums in the wood are hard to attack with a solvent, and the much better solvent properties of Destructively Distilled Wood Turpentine over other thinners, allow paint mixed with this turpentine to penetrate the surface of the wood, making a better bond.

NEWPORT and EMCA SUPERIOR BRANDS

ne “STEAM DISTILLED WOOD TURPENTINE”

\ The reception given to Newport Superior and Emca Superior has been so cordial and customer interest so real and genuine, together with a grow- ing and insistent demand for Superior brands, “Steam Distilled Wood Turpentine,” that much greater production is being required to keep pace with sales development. This indicates the popu- larity of Newport and Emca Superior among those who buy, sell and use turpentine, a popularity gained by reason of the fine, uniform quality and purity of Superior, a quality and purity that seems desired by tradesmen all along the line.

(To anyone who visits the Landes section of France with a view to studying at first hand its methods of forest perpetuation and of operating its permanently established naval stores industry, the opportunity to meet Senator Charles Cadilhon and enjoy the benefits of his long experi- ence in these connections is of great value. It was the pleasure of the editor of the “Weekly Naval Stores Review” to meet Senator Cadilhon in ' this way last Fall. Since then he has learned from others connected with the industry more about the part Senator Cadilhon played in its pro- tection in the great crisis of the World War and at other times. By request of the editor, a friend of the “Review” prepared the following sketch, which will serve to introduce Senator Cadilhon, in a measure, to the American industry and trade. He needs no introduction in his own country.)
