These groups are all over the world and often called support groups. These groups are run by and for the members, “experts” themselves. “You alone can do it - but you can’t do it alone.” The strength in joining in a group can help a person stabilize their situation and gain the energy needed to see to their current needs. Joining in a group can help gain a sense of well-being, and lead to self- awareness and give a sense of belonging. The purpose of this group is to create a community of grandfamilies and their kin to stay connected and involved with other grandfamilies in the area. To provide support and understanding of grandfamilies in need. This group will organize gatherings for social interaction such as play dates, camp-outs, annual gatherings and celebrations of member achievements, such as birthdays. The group will create a “one on one” support organization that will match a graduated grand with a grand in need of communication and support. The group will create a web-based page for communication, information and navigation such as a newsletter, referral to other organizations, Facebook or other social media and contact point for grandfamilies.
