This includes technical or vocational credit and anything above remedial-level coursework. Orientation Before students are allowed to register for classes, an online orientation is required for all transfer and nontraditional students to introduce student essentials and resources. After being admitted into UNC, the link to online orientation is sent to each student’s BearMail. Transfer and Non-Traditional Welcome Transfer and nontraditional students are also encouraged to attend an optional three-hour Transfer and Non-Traditional Welcome, which provides an overview of life at UNC. Transferring to UNC | 5 EXPLORING FINANCIAL AID UNC offers financial assistance through loans, grants, work-study and scholarships. FAFSA Every student should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is a required application for a wide range of financial aid, including need-based grants, loans, work-study and some UNC scholarships. FOR FINANCIAL AID CONSIDERATION • You should be admitted to UNC by March 1 • The 2018–19 FAFSA is available beginning October 1, 2017 — use your completed 2016 tax information to complete the 2018-19 FAFSA • Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov by March 1 • Use UNC’s school code: 001349 COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY FUND (COF) If you’re a Colorado resident, you should make applying for the College Opportunity Fund stipend a priority. The COF was established by the Colorado legislature to help offset the cost of college for Colorado residents. If you don’t apply for the stipend, you’ll pay the full resident tuition rate. To automatically receive the WUE tuition rates, you must be a permanent resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington or Wyoming. The WUE tuition rate is automatically offered and applies to all terms — fall, interim, spring and summer — and to part-time and full-time enrollment.
