Many if us will have been hugely encouraged by summer gatherings to pray, study and celebrate with other Chirstians. Within our own diocese the Household of Faith conference and the HTB Focus week at Camber have both been rich sources of grace and blessing, as have the New Wine gathering in Somerset and Walsingham’s youth pilgrimage. ABSTRACT This thesis uses a practical-theological methodology to explore the theology and spirituality of „spiritual warfare‟ that developed in the charismatic renewal from the 1960s. Beginning with a study of twelve charismatic Anglican pioneers, a detailed case study then explores spiritual warfare praxis in a charismatic Anglican congregation. The ensuing theological reflection focuses on the ontology of evil, through dialogue with Nigel Wright, Amos Yong, and Gregory Boyd, as well as Karl Barth and Walter Wink. The thesis argues for a positive ontology for evil powers, based on a charismatic hermeneutic of biblical texts; on the grounds that Jesus treated Satan and demons as real spiritual entities, the Pauline epistles refer to real evil spiritual powers in the heavenly realms, and charismatic experience supports this ontology.

Technically the Centenary of the Faculty of Law occurred in 1957, 100 years after the Faculty was formally established by the new University. In that sense, Sydney joins Melbourne as the two oldest law faculties in Australia. But, even less than the law itself, a law school is not just words on paper; it is people relating to each other, students and their teachers. Effectively the Faculty began its teaching existence in 1890. In that year the first full time Professor, Pitt Cobbett was appointed. Thus, and appropriately, the Law School celebrated its centenary in 1990, 33 years after the Faculty might have done. In addition to a formal structure, a law school needs a substantial one, stone, bricks and mortar in better architectural days, but if pressed to it, pre-stressed concrete. Dave Bagley has been the Chief Executive at Urban Outreach Bolton since September 1990. The Charity has celebrated 30 years of “binding up the broken-hearted and set- ting the captives free.” Dave Bagley, now in his mid 50s, was adopted as a baby, having been left on the steps of Barnado’s. He was educated in Billericay, Essex, trained as a chef and, after being offered several good jobs, gave it all up and trained with Youth for Christ. As part of his training he was sent to Bolton. In 1990 he and his wife Chris started Urban Outreach. Urban Outreach began by providing accommodation for homeless young people and then moved into further ar- eas such as homelessness, winter shelters, outreach to sex workers, work with ex- offenders and in recent years has focused on food poverty, featuring innovative pro- jects such as Christmas Dinner on Jesus. He and his team of 350 volunteers provide critical support for over 22,000 people. He has developed significant networks and partnerships with Bolton Council, housing pro- viders and local firms. Urban Outreach is the most significant ministry of Christian so- cial action in Bolton and possibly Greater Manchester. His whole ministry in church and society is outstanding in quality and creativity, sup- porting the most vulnerable people in society; he remains a truly humble (and funny) person, dependent on God in prayer and is motivated by his faith in Jesus Christ and his love for people.

    Fifth Sunday of Trinity 30th June 2013 A warm welcome to our services today. A special welcome to any visitors in the Benefice or those worshipping with us for the first time. KEITH FROM WOOLAVINGTON CONFIRMED IN GLASTONBURY A number of people from Woolavington made the journey to St. John’s Glastonbury for the confirmation service held there on Thursday 20 June and to support our candidate Keith Moore. The service was led by the retired Bishop, John Perry who was ‘an eminent Anglican Bishop in the last decades of the 20th Century and the very start of the 21st. After ordination he was a Curate at Christ Church, Woking after which he held a similar post at Chorleywood before becoming Vicar of the area and then Rural Dean of Rickmansworth. From 1977 until 1989 he was Warden of Lee Abbey when he became Bishop of Southampton. He moved to be Bishop of Chelmsford in 1996 and retired in 2003’. The excellent service, during which a total of 23 candidates were confirmed, was followed by light refreshments during which the accompanying photo was taken. We wish Keith all the very best with his continued journey as part of the local Christian community. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILL Congratulations and very best wishes from everyone in the Benefice to Bill Hubbuck who will be celebrating his 85th birthday this coming Friday 5th July.
