Retired , John Perry received his licentiate in theology from the London College of Divinity and awarded an M.Phil. at Westminster College, Oxford. He was the at Christ Church in Woking for three years, then vicar of St. Andrews in Chorleywood from 1962 to 1977 when he was appointed warden of Lee Abbey in North Devon. Consecrated a bishop in 1989, he served for seven years as the until in 1996 he became Bishop of Chelmsford, covering Essex and much of East London. For many years, John chaired the Burrswood Christian Centre for Health Care and Ministry, the ecumenical Churches’ Council for Health and Healing, and the Committee for Ministry of and among the Deaf and Disabled. He served as chair of the House of ’ Working Party that produced A Time to Heal (2000), the first report from the Church of England in more than forty years on its healing ministry. In addition to publishing articles in various journals, he is the author of Effective Christian Leadership, which was published in 1983 by Hodder & Stoughton. He currently serves as an Assistant (retired) Bishop in the Diocese of Bath and Wells. John is married to Marilyn, a former member of Christ Church Beckenham. Q: How much deposit do I have to pay and when do I have to pay the rest of the money? A: A £15 per person non-refundable deposit to be paid by Monday 18th May. A further £50 per person will be due in October 2015, with the final monies to be paid in February 2016. Q: What is the accommodation like? A: We have visited the venue and were very impressed with the rooms and facilities. There are twin, double, bunk beds and family rooms. Please state your preference on the booking form. Q: Are all the rooms accessible? Is there disabled access? A: Some of the rooms use stairs for access, so please make sure that you make it clear on the booking form if you cannot use stairs. There is disabled access throughout the common areas and in some of the rooms. Q: Will I need my mobility scooter? A: We think it would be a good idea, if you need one to get around. We’ll hire a van to take people’s scooters down to the venue. Please say when booking if you’d like us to do this for you. Q: Will we have exclusive use of the venue? A: No. We have reserved bedrooms for 150 people, but the venue has capacity for 250. Q: Do I have to pay a single supplement? A: Single supplements do apply. £10 per person, per night. Q: Do I have to plan my own travel? A: Yes, we would like people to make their own way to the venue. But we can help co-ordinate lifts. Q: Can I just come for the Saturday? Will you provide transport? A: If you cannot make the full weekend, why not consider coming down for the day on the Saturday? If we have enough people, we will organise, but not pay for, a mini-bus. Q: What are the other costs involved, for instance, drinks during the day? A: All meals and tea/coffee are provided, so there shouldn’t be any extra costs. Q: What is the latest time that I can arrive on Friday and have a meal? A: You can arrive any time after 4.30pm on the Friday. You’ll be met by Helen and given your key. Dinner will be served as a rolling buffet from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. N.B. the gates locked at 11pm. Q: I have allergies to certain foods, will this be catered for? A: Yes, but please be sure to state any food allergies on your booking form. Q: How far is Ashburnham from Beckenham to drive? A; It’s about an hour and a half drive from CCB. The nearest train station is Battle (5 miles). Q: Do I need to bring towels/hairdryers? A: En-suite rooms have towels and hair dryers, non en-suite rooms must bring their own. Q: Can my older children stay in a room with their friends? A: Yes, please state this clearly on your booking form. Parent’s rooms will be allocated near by! Q: Will there be crèche facilities for the younger children so that I can join in? A: Yes, we want all parents to join in, so we‘ll be arranging a crèche for the younger children. Q: Will cots be provided? A: Yes. Please state this when booking. You must bring a waterproof under sheet and bedding. Q: Will there be activities for the older children? A: Yes, there will be a full programme for the children. Q: Is there a games room for the children? A: Yes, table tennis, pool table and table football. Q: What outdoor activities are there? What equipment should we bring? A: There’s a football pitch and volleyball net - bring your own balls. A croquet set can be hired. There’s fishing in the lake. Guests aren’t allowed to bring bikes, scooters, skateboards or skates. Q: Is there Wi-Fi connection? A: Yes. There is also limited mobile phone network coverage. A pay phone is available. Q: Will there be quiet areas for me to sit and pray and read? A: Yes, there are plenty of break out areas for people to relax and if fine, the grounds are lovely.
