The entry/exit point to the site on/off Velator Way introduces a hazard for other road users. Velator Way is not only busy with vehicle traffic but is also well used by pedestrian and cyclists en route to Crow Point and/or the Burrows.

West-facing sandy beach, backed by dunes and with the rocky headlands of Downend and Baggy Point to the South and North respectively. The rocky shore is excellent for wildlife and includes features such as Sabellaria (fan- worm) reefs, sea hares and sea anemones (including some rare species). Cowrie shells can be found in sandy gullies with careful hunting. One of the best beaches in the UK for experienced surfers, but occasional rip currents - not ideal for learners. Lifeguards present during main season. Good parking and toilets. Seasonal refreshments by main beach entrance and year- round in village. Croyde Bay and Baggy Point, from top of Croyde Burrows DETAIL OF LOCATION AND FACILITIES Croyde Bay, in the parish of Georgeham, is a ½ mile wide west-facing sandy beach sandwiched between the rocky headlands of Downend to the south and Baggy Point to the north. Above these rocky shore platforms, soft rock cliffs rise away from the beach. At the back of the beach, to the east, are sizeable sand dunes (Croyde Burrows) which were stabilised by marram grass some years ago, and through which various footpaths run. The South West Long Distance Path crosses the beach at the base of the dunes. The entire area of Croyde Sands (down to LWM), the dunes, and rocky foreshore to south and north (as far as the parish boundary on Downend, and “Polly’s Gully” along Baggy Point) is in private ownership – at the time of writing (October 2008) understood to be Parkdean Estates, the owners also of the Ruda Caravan Park, the time-share apartments to the north of the beach, plus the chalets and the seasonal camping fields behind the dunes.

    APPENDIX 2 CHULMLEIGH COMMUNITY WELCOME We are a group of local residents working together to welcome a refugee family, displaced by the Syrian war, to Chulmleigh. Many of us will have seen the pictures of refugees on the move or stuck in camps and felt helpless. Their plight is back in the news and nearly nine years on from the start of the war the camps are still filling up. This is our chance to do something for one family. Known as community sponsorship, this is a home office scheme, in partnership with Devon County and District council. The family will probably come from one of the settlements or camps in countries neighbouring Syria (where there is a huge waiting list of families waiting to be resettled) and they will be fully security vetted. We have the support of the Pickwell foundation who have already helped welcome families to Georgeham and Barnstaple and will be our lead sponsor and legal entity. The family will have full refugee rights, including the right to work, attend school, access the health service, benefits and so on. From the aid budget there is some funding towards the costs of schooling and learning English. Our job as a group is to help find and equip a house suitable for a small family, probably from the private rental market, which will accept housing benefit and needs to be available for two years. To raise at least 9,000 pounds to cover the cost of interpreters and for extras like laptops or taxi fares. To make sure the various agencies such as schools and surgeries are aware that the family is coming and will welcome them.
