Collect 15-20 quotes and in your own words explain how those quotes helped you understand the PLOT, SETTING, CHARACTER, CONFLICT, or THEME. The quotes should come from various portions and characters in the novel to show true understanding of the novel. This should be done in a composition notebook or small tablet. This can absolutely not be typed and must be written in blue or black ink in the below format: Quote# with actual quote written out in quotation marks (Page # in Novel)-Character who stated the quote. Quote Breakdown- Explain the quote in your own words. Explanation- (the explanation should explain how the quote helped you understand the plot, setting, character, conflict, or theme.) 2) Be prepared for a test and/or discussion on the novel. 11th and 12th Grade Book Assignments High school students should keep a reader response journal of the mandatory reading text for their grade level. You are to find significant quotes throughout the book -- 15 total -- that cover the scope of the book. In other words, spread them out through the beginning, middle and end of the book. Include only one entry per page. The cover or beginning section of the book should include the title, author and an illustration. Your reader response journal should include: → 5 quotes from the beginning of the book → 5 quotes from the middle of the book → 5 quotes from the end of the book a. Each quote should contain the page number and paragraph number b. Identify who said the quote c. Explain what it reveals about the character or the situation (1 paragraph long, 5-7 sentences) d. Identify any literary devices (imagery, symbolism, figurative language, etc.) present that make the quote stand out and its effect on the quote (1 paragraph long, 5-7 sentences). e. Make a personal connection. (1 paragraph long, 5-7 sentences) Be prepared to complete a project and take a written test about the books once school begins..
